I'm not sure if yall know this, but I kind of LOVE going to the gym. I go every day pretty much. So…read moreif for some reason I have to miss it, like traveling makes me miss it, that shit drives me crazy! Back in September, we drove down to Arizona, the BEAUTIFUL! BEAUTIFUL! BEAUTIFUL! Flagstaff, AZ....for a dear friends wedding. We left Boise and I had to skip the gym that day, obviously lol. I missed the next day as well. Like a crack head does or a tweaker does...I was basically jonesing for the gym. Pathetic, right? Yeah, it kinda is. NEVER IN MY LIFE would I have ever guess that I'd love the gym as much as I do, buuuuuuuut.....ahhhhhh, I do! We arrive in Flagstaff on Friday. Before I left for AZ, I set up a temporary pass for Anytime Fitness. It's convenient if you're traveling. Gyms may be tiny, but like I said, for traveling, it's better than the hotel gyms. I go to Anytime Fitness on Saturday, September 7th. THEY. WERE. CLOSED. No staff! Seriously WHAT THAAAA??? So I immediately look for any other gyms and then I remember Flagstaff Athletic Club! The one of the westside of town, by campus....the one I worked at waaaaaay back in the day when I went to escuela en Flagstaff! My job there didn't last long, unfortunately...as I had to be to work at 4am. A student, having to work at 4am, when I spent every night at the NAU library.....I was a dork for all the right reasons, haha! So, as mentioned, I didn't last long. But it was fantastic to go back to this gym to actually work out! It's a beautiful club with amazing views from the weight room. I believe I added a pic when I checked in. Flagstaff is so beautiful. I've said this a million times...if for some god forsaken reason I had to ever move back to the pit of a state, I'd gladly live in Flagstaff. Ok, the staff was incredibly, incredibly sweet! 2 girls from NAU were at the counter. $15 dollhairs for a day pass, includes access to all of the gym, 'towel service's etc. I was trying to avoid paying for a day pass which I why I originally went to Anytime Fitness. But whatevs, it was worth it. I had an AMAZING work out! Their gym has so many machines, weights, etc that I pray my gym would get. A lot of FAC equipment is outdated though, if ima be honest. It still works, but this equipment was there when I worked there like...15, 16 years ago and I'm sure it's older than that. Anyone who goes there, knows it's hella old...the weight room is what I'm talking about. The cardio machines are newer and nice and the cardio room is massive, great views again, plenty of TVs etc. This is an exceptional gym ...even if I knocked how hella old their weight room and equipment is lol. If I ever go back to Flag for a visit AND....I WILL... I won't waste any time with getting an Anytime Fitness temp membership....I'll just go where I should be and that's at Flagstaff Athletic Club. (How's that last line?.sounding like something from a commercial haha! "ON THE GO AND NEED TO GET SWOLE?!?! LOOK NO FURTHER THAN FLAGSTAFF ATHLETIC CLUB! TO SATISFY ALL YOUR WEIGHTLIFTING NEEDS AND GOALS!" Ok now I'm being ridiculous hahaha! They have everything you could imagine tho...even racquetball courts and plenty of them too! It's a great place! Go! Get swole! Enjoy! Thanks yelpers! And people who are just looking up reviews! I'm ending this because I KNOW Yelp will tell me I've said too much if I don't shut up now hahaha! Cheers!

This review applies to both locations…read more FAC has both good and bad aspects. I'll try to be fair. The bad - if you're used to a new, shiny club featuring stainless steel open areas and shiny tile FAC is not it. The buildings were built in the 70s and despite some remodeling at the West club both clubs are dated and somewhat dreary. At times it seems they are not even trying to (shower heads in the east club are mismatched, come on), tile is dingy, and both clubs give a worn out vibe. Some of the gym equipment has seen better days, esp at the east. The good - the staff is very friendly, their classes are varied and a lot of fun, both clubs have both a steam room and sauna plus a jacuzzi, and they always seem to have an ample supply of clean towels. Overall grade B minus.

We took the whole crew to Slide Rock State Park, and this one surprised a few people. On paper, it…read moresounds simple. A creek, some rocks, a natural "slide." In reality, it's a full-on experience. First thing you notice is the setting. You're tucked into Oak Creek Canyon with red rock walls rising up around you, water cutting through it like it's been doing forever. It's one of those places where the scenery alone would be enough. But then you add the water. And that water is cold. Not refreshing. Not brisk. Cold. The kind that hits you and resets your entire nervous system. Once you get past that initial shock, though, it's perfect, especially with the Arizona heat doing its thing overhead. The main attraction is the natural rock slide, which is exactly what it sounds like. Smooth, worn stone with water rushing over it, turning the whole thing into a fast-moving chute. Kids loved it. Adults pretended to be cautious and then went right down anyway. It's controlled chaos in the best way. People laughing, slipping, climbing back up to do it again. We had a bigger group, so we claimed a stretch of rock and sort of set up camp for a few hours. There's enough space to spread out if you're willing to walk a bit. Towels on the rocks, bags tucked away, everyone rotating between the water and just sitting back taking it all in. It does get busy. No way around that. This isn't some hidden, quiet spot. But it never felt overwhelming, just lively. There's an energy to it that works. Families, groups of friends, everyone there for the same reason, to cool off and have a good time. A couple practical things. Wear shoes with some grip. Those rocks are no joke. And keep an eye on your footing, especially with kids. It's fun, but it demands a little respect. What stuck with me is how simple it is. No overthinking, no production. Just water, rock, and gravity doing what they do. You show up, you get in, you laugh a little, maybe get knocked around once or twice, and you leave feeling like you actually did something with your day. If you're anywhere near Sedona and it's warm out, this is an easy call. It's not polished, it's not quiet, and that's exactly why it works.

It costs $10/person and you can pay at the entrance booth with cash or go inside to pay with card. We did not hike down to the creek/observation bridge but will definitely check it out on another visit. There are four easily labeled viewpoints that show different angles of the bridge. There was a lot of wildlife when we went and we even got to see a Coati! This place is great, definitely check it out.

At least during the months where the sun doesn't set that early, the park should stay open past 5. Anyway, my mom, dad, and I stopped here around 3 on a Friday in early October. There were several different parking lots to choose from with plenty of spaces. There weren't that many people there but there were quite a few groups for them supposedly closing in less than an hour. Even at 3:45 there were still a decent amount of cars in the various lots. The actual natural bridge was pretty cool to see. The waterfall was interesting in that it was many trickles combined to form a "waterfall." I just wish my mom and I weren't experiencing leg/hip injuries that prevented us from doing the couple strenuous trails that we so would've done had it not be for our ongoing pain issues. I really would've liked to do the Gowan trail. Alas. We loved how each trail was nicely marked and there were even arrows painted on the rocks down in the canyon part. Way to go, Arizona!
