Agree with the reviews below. Wonderful place to escape the heat. One of a kind park with beautiful scenes (albeit crowded) along the river. Water shoes are highly recommended to walk along the river as well as can aid in crossing.

This place typically has long lines to enter on the weekends, especially in the summer time. We stopped by late October on a Friday morning and there surprisingly was no line. It was $25 for a car of 4 and any body else in the vehicle was an additional $5 each. There were 5 of us so we paid $30. We found parking very easy and went out towards the apple orchards to pick some apples. The apples were unfortunately all picked for the season so we opted to then just hike down towards the water area. It was a little busier here as people were actually hanging out in the water and sitting on the surrounding rocks - the water was freezing as it always is so we did not get in. We stepped into the market and the worker was not at all friendly. My cousin bought some souvenirs and we headed on out. The views are beautiful and deff worth checking out. My parents used to bring me here back in the day so it was nice to see how its changed. The bathrooms were clean.

Honestly $20 just to enter is kinda ridiculous, you'd think as a Az resident you'd get some sort of discount. The gate attendant was ehh not mean but not so friendly when we had questions over all I need to go again to try and have a better experience. The view was very nice and the water was beautiful but definitely not worth paying so much for a trail

Made a pit stop here on our roadtrip last year. Very pretty! Worth exploring! A great spot to stretch your legs and walk alongside the water, even during the cold off season

Sarah M.

A great place to explore Oak Creek but be ready for crowds. Plenty of rocks to climb around on and even dip into the cold water on the natural water slides.

Elizabeth P.

Beautiful and great family friendly spot to explore if you're visiting Sedona. We were able to take advantage of some apple picking when we visited during the last weekend in September.

We had such an amazing time today at the slide rock state park. Get there early. It's $20 to get into the park. The line can be very long so get there early. Wear good shoes as it can be slippery on the rocks when they get wet. Such a beautiful place and we enjoyed it so much! The water is super cold! I couldn't slide down the rocks. Amazing place!

As a local I tend to avoid highly trafficked parks in the area. Since it was off season I figured I'd give it a gander to see what all the hype is about Upon arrival the Park Ranger came out and gave us a pamphlet. He was very kind and knowledgeable on the subject at hand. Very well kept. Ample parking lot Many picnic tables to have a bite to eat. They have so many apple trees. Wonderful views Beautiful hiking trails

Slide Rock State park is a great place to check out. The main attraction is the river where people go enjoy a good place to stay cool in the Arizona heat. The trail is super easy to the river, picnic areas, historic building, store, gift shop, photo paradise, nice parking and super clean restrooms. They do charge a $30 fee to enter the park.

I got here around 930am on a Wednesday and it was already busy, but we had no problem getting a parking spot. It costs $30/vehicle to enter the park, but I had a state park pass. There's bathrooms, picnic tables, and a store that sells items, food, and soft serve. We did a short hike to an overlook and then hiked down to the water. As the name suggests, it's like a natural waterpark and you can slide down the rocks! We hiked further back to get away from the crowds and find some shade. The water is very chilly and refreshing.

Slide Rock was one of my favorite spots to check out on our day in Sedona. The park has several spots to swim and to slide down the natural water slides. There is also plenty of space to lay out in the rocks or go on a mini hike. We went on a Thursday afternoon, and it was not too crowded. We had such a fun time sliding down the rocks and cooling off on the chilly stream water on such a hot day. The park is beautiful and a breath of fresh air! It was so nice to see so many families relaxing and having a good time enjoying nature.

All the times I've been to Sedona, I never had a desire to go to Slide Rock State Park because of the crowds. This time was a perfect opportunity, end of April on a Tuesday around 10:15 AM. The scenic drive to the park is beautiful. As you drive up to the parking lot there is a $20 entrance fee that you can charge, plenty of parking and easy map to follow. There were not many people except for the one large group that commandeered the view by putting a big blue tenet up in the middle of the stream... killing photo ops. Other than that it was great. It's an easy walk and beautiful.

I have been to Slide Rock State Park throughout my life. It was a kid favorite of mine when we would make the drive and spend the day there. I would spend hours sliding down enjoying the joys of nature. Slide Rock State Park is an absolute gem nestled in the heart of Oak Creek Canyon. You're greeted by stunning natural beauty, and tranquility from the moment you arrive. The main attraction, the natural water slides formed by Oak Creek, offer hours of fun and excitement for visitors of all ages. The cool, crystal-clear water provides a refreshing escape from the Arizona heat, while the surrounding red rock cliffs create a picturesque backdrop. In addition to the exhilarating slides, the park offers plenty of opportunities for hiking, picnicking, and simply soaking in the serene atmosphere. Whether you're looking for adventure or relaxation, Slide Rock State Park has something for everyone. The park is well-maintained, with clean facilities and friendly staff who are always ready to assist visitors. However, it's important to note that the park can get crowded due to its popularity, especially during peak seasons. Nevertheless, the breathtaking scenery and unique outdoor experience make Slide Rock State Park a must-visit destination for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts alike. Restrooms: There are two sets of bathrooms on the path from the parking to the actual park. Picnic area: The meadow has benches that are perfect for a picnic. Plan accordingly.

Ask the Community - Slide Rock State Park

Can we purchase a ticket at the entry?

They're open at 7am or 8am now? The website says 7 but here it says 8.

It's 8am

Are dogs allowed?

I went yesterday and they didn't allow my dog in! I was super disappointed. I was under the impression dogs were allowed on the trail just not near the creek. We weren't even allowed to drive in with our dog in the car.

Are there hiking trails here?

Any suggestions on nice, private, air bnb-type lodging/cabins in or near Sedona & the park?

Junipine Resort is about 5 minutes away. The Creek-side villas are lovely and very peaceful.

We are planning on going here throughout the week in July. Has anyone gone on a Wednesday in July and how busy was it?

Always busiest in summer but should be fine on a Wednesday as long as not 4th of July

About how long is the round trip trail? Walking only, excluding stops.

Not sure which trail but the path from the parking lot to the water is about a 10 minute walk (one way). Not sure if that's what you were wondering haha

If you've spent time around Sedona, you know how quickly things can feel crowded and overrun. This place is the opposite. It feels more intentional, more preserved. You're still surrounded by those iconic red rock formations, but here they're framed by open meadows, clusters of trees, and the steady presence of Oak Creek winding through the park. We set out as a group, a mix of adults and kids, and found trails that worked for everyone. That's the beauty of this place. You don't have to be chasing a summit to enjoy it. The trails are well-marked, manageable, and still interesting enough to keep you engaged. You're moving through changing terrain the whole time. One minute you're walking through sunlit grass, the next you're tucked into shade near the water, then you turn a corner and the red rock rises up again like it's been waiting for you. The creek pulls you in. There's something about moving water in the desert that makes you slow down without realizing it. We stopped more than once just to sit for a minute, let the kids explore a bit, listen to the sound of it moving over rock. No rush, no pressure to keep pushing forward. Wildlife shows up if you're paying attention. Birds moving through the trees, the occasional lizard darting across the trail, subtle signs that this isn't just a scenic backdrop, it's a living system doing its thing. What stood out most was the pace. This isn't a place that demands anything from you. It lets you take it in at your own speed. Some of us pushed a little farther down the trail, others hung back and soaked it in. Nobody felt like they were missing out. It's also one of those rare parks that feels curated without feeling artificial. You can tell it's cared for. Trails are maintained, signage is clear, and there's a quiet respect for the environment that seems to carry over to the people visiting. By the time we looped back, nobody was checking the time. That's usually a sign you picked the right place. If Sedona at its busiest feels like a spectacle, this feels like a conversation. Same landscape, different tone. And sometimes that's exactly what you want.

Sharon and I decided we were obviously elite athletes, so naturally we set out to hike it. About a quarter mile in, our lungs filed a formal complaint. Now to be fair, the trail doesn't exactly ease you into things. It basically looks at you and says, "Oh... you thought this was a walk?" From there it's steep rock, scrambling, and a steady reminder that gravity is very real. We stopped. We rested. We evaluated several recent life choices. And then we kept going. At some point along the climb it hits you: this might be the only hike where the staircase goes straight up the side of a postcard. I made it as high as I reasonably could before deciding that discretion is sometimes the better part of valor... and oxygen. So we turned back. And honestly, that's when the best part of the experience happened. As we paused on the way down, we chatted with hikers from all over North America heading up and down the trail. Every single person asked the same thing: "How far did you make it?" Not a single raised eyebrow when we said we didn't summit. Meanwhile I had been judging myself like I'd just been cut from the varsity team. From where we rested, the view over Sedona was absolutely gorgeous. Calm. Expansive. Peaceful. One of those views that makes you stop talking for a minute and just take it in. Also, small public service announcement: I originally thought this hike led to the famous chapel built into the red rocks. That would be Chapel of the Holy Cross... which is a very different destination and a much easier visit. Definitely double-check your notes before committing to this particular adventure. The trail is challenging, the scenery is spectacular, and the experience has a little bit of magic to it. Five stars for a hike that reminds you the goal isn't always the summit... sometimes it's just appreciating the view from exactly where you are.

The sky started doing that Sedona thing -- layers of orange, pink, and gold spreading across the horizon while the red rocks glowed like they had their own internal lighting system. Just when we thought the show had hit peak beauty, we turned around. And there it was. One of the most majestic moonrises I've ever seen slowly lifting over the horizon like it had been perfectly scheduled to steal the second act. The sunset painting the sky one direction... and the moon rising bright enough in the other that I briefly wondered if I should've brought sunglasses. It felt like Sedona decided to give us the best of both celestial worlds. Sunset in front of us. Moonrise behind us. Nature's version of surround sound. The overlook itself is easy to access and well worth the stop. People gathered quietly, cameras out, everyone sharing that universal look that says, "Are you seeing this too?" Moments like that remind you why places like this are special. Beauty that stops you mid-sentence. The kind that makes everyone pause, breathe, and just take it in. We were parked off the side well away from the road and had just eaten a lovely lunch when 3 vehicles(2 trucks. One was black and one was silver. I'm beginning to see and understand the very real complaints from people who live in Sedona when they talk about entitled and aggressive behavior from tourists. My mother exited the vehicle and spoke to the small man in the SUV(around 4'2 and he was very aggressive) I didn't hear that conversation and was on the phone when all of the sudden the small angry man popped up in front of my window spouting off about delusional scenarios where I'm taking pictures of his kids(I saw no children) and acting unhinged. I verbally ripped into the person because I don't respond well to unhinged weirdos standing right next to my window. He kept rambling incoherently about his delusions and then mentioned the litter box for the cat(yes, I bring my cat when I leave for 6 months). Apparently the lunatic thought depriving a cat of a bathroom while traveling seemed reasonable. His delusions were all over the place because he was mad for being called out for dangerously blocking traffic, being entitled and acting like an unhinged lunatic because they said they just needed to take a minute. And that's another thing I'm tired of is tourists peeing all over this area when there are bathrooms and rest stops!! Definitely the weirdest behavior I've seen up north and that's saying a lot. But!!! They are from Nevada so this can't be blamed on Arizonans. But the scenic drive is still spectacular.
