Sedona did not fail me... The following park is a must visit... Tranquil and lots of positive energy to give...

    Anton F.

Spent about 2 hours here walking the trails, observing the flow of the creek and taking in the enormous red rock formations. To My surprise there is a fair amount of greenery and vegetation in the park. There are short low bridge walk ways across the slow steaming water, low hiking spots, a visitor center that includes a shop, theater and exhibits that tells the story of the area. There is also a picnic area with seating and grills. Had a good time

The park ambassadors excel at maintaining clean trails, and the clearly placed signs make navigation easy. Even if you wander off course, the interconnected trails will guide you back on track. The Education Center features a looping video that highlights the challenges park rangers face in preventing E. coli contamination in the water supply. Leftover food and garbage attract wildlife, complicating these efforts.

Like all of the natural environments in and around, Sedona, Red Rock State Park offers a lot of beautiful and scenic surroundings. This being the case, it is not quite as fun as many of the other places to hike in and bask in the beauty and energy of Sedona. The main reason for this, at least as far as I'm concerned, is the fact that there is all of these signs telling you what you cannot do. For example, most recently, one of the main things is you can't do is put your feet in the water or anything like that. It kind of feels like you are really hindered from achieving the full Sedona natural experience at this location. I get it, this is totally a to each your own experience. But, for me, this kind of limits my enjoyment level. Overall, what this park offers is a nice visitor center, a nice hummingbird garden, and some interesting, beginner level trails. Yes, you do have to pay to get in, but other than that, there's really not too many negative things you can say about this place. Overall, if you want to go to monitored state park, and you don't want to do any extensive hiking, or having fun by sticking your feet in the water, or anything like that, this may be your location to go.

Great over all spot to experience the nature of Sedona and also to drive the loop if not hiking. Nice visitor center too.

Beautiful park and found some cute items in the gift shop to bring home to my daughter and Mother in Law!! The rooftop observation deck offers a great view of all the landmarks!! Spent a couple nights here in Sedona as a mini honeymoon before Key West coming soon!!

4 stars I only took the scenic drive known as Red Rock Loop Rd. It is a very nice and easy drive through the park and I don't think you have to pay just to drive through it. I believe you do have to pay if you intend to park your car and hike, but I can't be sure and would suggest stopping by the visitor's center to ask. Anyways, the drive is nice. The pavement is smooth and there is a nice view at every turn. Highly recommend!

Always beautiful no matter if you take the drive through the park or stop to enjoy it. It's clean and views never disappoint. You can stop in Crescent Moon are to swim etc it's definitely a must due atleast once if you've never been. If you're lucky you may even see some wild life. There are so many different hiking trails as well. So bring your gear and make a day out of it.

    Cathedral Rock

The park is easy to get to and has a good size parking area. Before you get to the visitor center you have to pay $10 per person at the entrance. From the park you have a good view of Cathedral Rock in the distance. My main reason for going there was to get a good pic of Cathedral Rock. The hiking trails are marked at the beginning of the hike, but disappear all together after about a half mile or so. Easy to miss a turn back tracking, which I did. Wish they had more markers. Don't expect much shade while hiking! At the end of the trail I was on, I realized there was a highway that would have taken me closer to Cathedral Rock! Could have saved me a 5 mile round trip hiking! The trail was a bit boring, in terms of scenery, except for Cathedral Rock. Possibly some of the other trails were better.

Absolutely astounding. The park was mediocre, however the park ranger compa jake is absolutely amazing. He went out of his way to make sure me and my family had the greatest time we could've had. We first started by getting to the parking lot and we saw compa jake pass by in his little green car and he waved at us. After that we went to the other side of the park and we saw him again and advised us that there might be animals and for us to be careful. Overall one of the best days of my life and this trip will always be remembered because of how great compa Jake did that day and how he went above and beyond. If any supervisor are seeing this, please make sure compa Jake gets a raise that man deserves it. I end this review by saying round of applause compa Jake, you will make it very far in life. P.s. Compa Jake, you were born to be a park ranger.

Eagle's Nest Overlook in Red Rock State Park
    Shayla B.

Well folks, they don't call it Red Rock State Park for nothin'! This park is surrounded by gorgeous red rock formations, many of which can be seen from right behind the visitor's center! There are about 5 miles of hiking trails here that range from easy to moderate. All of them can be combined to form a beautiful 5 mile hike around the park! I hiked this 5 mile loop and the views and terrain were just simply amazing. The trail starts off flat and follows a sanded path through vibrant green trees and lush greenery. You'll cross over a little bridge that will take you to a few other trails. Most of the trails are short, easy, and family friendly, but there are a few trails that will get your heart pumping. My favorite trail was the Eagle's Nest Trail. This trail starts off with switchbacks that gradually incline to the highest peak in the park. When you reach the top, you'll have sweeping 360 degrees views of the red rock mountains and Sedona Valley. The trails are well marked here and since the park is relativity small, it's hard to actually get lost. I loved being able to see all of the wonderful desert vegetation! The baby cacti were so pretty. Most of the trails offer little to no shade, so bring sunscreen and water if you're planning on coming during the warmer months. It's $7 per adult to enter, but it's totally worth it for the wonderful hiking trails and the views. This was one of my favorite parks to visit during my trip to Sedona, and I'd happily come back again.

    Maxine P.

Instead of going in the park we drove the loop by the park and the views are stunning. Even if you do not go in park the drive is worth it. Sorry attached photos not great shooting into wrong direction and sky was not clear that day.

In reality, it's a full-on experience. First thing you notice is the setting. You're tucked into Oak Creek Canyon with red rock walls rising up around you, water cutting through it like it's been doing forever. It's one of those places where the scenery alone would be enough. But then you add the water. And that water is cold. Not refreshing. Not brisk. Cold. The kind that hits you and resets your entire nervous system. Once you get past that initial shock, though, it's perfect, especially with the Arizona heat doing its thing overhead. The main attraction is the natural rock slide, which is exactly what it sounds like. Smooth, worn stone with water rushing over it, turning the whole thing into a fast-moving chute. Kids loved it. Adults pretended to be cautious and then went right down anyway. It's controlled chaos in the best way. People laughing, slipping, climbing back up to do it again. We had a bigger group, so we claimed a stretch of rock and sort of set up camp for a few hours. There's enough space to spread out if you're willing to walk a bit. Towels on the rocks, bags tucked away, everyone rotating between the water and just sitting back taking it all in. It does get busy. No way around that. This isn't some hidden, quiet spot. But it never felt overwhelming, just lively. There's an energy to it that works. Families, groups of friends, everyone there for the same reason, to cool off and have a good time. A couple practical things. Wear shoes with some grip. Those rocks are no joke. And keep an eye on your footing, especially with kids. It's fun, but it demands a little respect. What stuck with me is how simple it is. No overthinking, no production. Just water, rock, and gravity doing what they do. You show up, you get in, you laugh a little, maybe get knocked around once or twice, and you leave feeling like you actually did something with your day. If you're anywhere near Sedona and it's warm out, this is an easy call. It's not polished, it's not quiet, and that's exactly why it works.

That's the time when most people enjoy the water and spend more time within the park. I guess it's a good place to take a family as the walk is easy and you can do a picnic here. We were here for less than an hour as I didn't find much to do. We walked the short Clifftop Nature Trail, which had signs for the different plants. Then we went down to the Slide Rock Swim Area. Sharon and I decided we were obviously elite athletes, so naturally we set out to hike it. About a quarter mile in, our lungs filed a formal complaint. Now to be fair, the trail doesn't exactly ease you into things. It basically looks at you and says, "Oh... you thought this was a walk?" From there it's steep rock, scrambling, and a steady reminder that gravity is very real. We stopped. We rested. We evaluated several recent life choices. And then we kept going. At some point along the climb it hits you: this might be the only hike where the staircase goes straight up the side of a postcard. I made it as high as I reasonably could before deciding that discretion is sometimes the better part of valor... and oxygen. So we turned back. And honestly, that's when the best part of the experience happened. As we paused on the way down, we chatted with hikers from all over North America heading up and down the trail. Every single person asked the same thing: "How far did you make it?" Not a single raised eyebrow when we said we didn't summit. Meanwhile I had been judging myself like I'd just been cut from the varsity team. From where we rested, the view over Sedona was absolutely gorgeous. Calm. Expansive. Peaceful. One of those views that makes you stop talking for a minute and just take it in. Also, small public service announcement: I originally thought this hike led to the famous chapel built into the red rocks. That would be Chapel of the Holy Cross... which is a very different destination and a much easier visit. Definitely double-check your notes before committing to this particular adventure. The trail is challenging, the scenery is spectacular, and the experience has a little bit of magic to it. Five stars for a hike that reminds you the goal isn't always the summit... sometimes it's just appreciating the view from exactly where you are.

I'm beginning to see and understand the very real complaints from people who live in Sedona when they talk about entitled and aggressive behavior from tourists. My mother exited the vehicle and spoke to the small man in the SUV(around 4'2 and he was very aggressive) I didn't hear that conversation and was on the phone when all of the sudden the small angry man popped up in front of my window spouting off about delusional scenarios where I'm taking pictures of his kids(I saw no children) and acting unhinged. I verbally ripped into the person because I don't respond well to unhinged weirdos standing right next to my window. He kept rambling incoherently about his delusions and then mentioned the litter box for the cat(yes, I bring my cat when I leave for 6 months). Apparently the lunatic thought depriving a cat of a bathroom while traveling seemed reasonable. His delusions were all over the place because he was mad for being called out for dangerously blocking traffic, being entitled and acting like an unhinged lunatic because they said they just needed to take a minute. And that's another thing I'm tired of is tourists peeing all over this area when there are bathrooms and rest stops!! Definitely the weirdest behavior I've seen up north and that's saying a lot.
