Absolute sham. 130 for a full diagnostic to be done and Al the effort they put forth is the same as you get at autozone... quoted me 2x the actual price of the part plus the labor and claimed it had to be special order. The part at oreilly's (1/2 quoted price) can be shipped to store for free today. Do yourself a favor and skip this local scam of a mechanic shop. read more

The mechanics at Ace Automotive are top notch at letting you know what is going on with your car. I've taken both of my vehicles here and have been satisfied (not ecstatic, but satisfied) with the work done. More importantly, I've been very happy with the explanations that have accompanied the work. One particular experience I feel like I should share. After having work done there on my car, I advised my wife to take her vehicle in for A/C repair and a once-over. The guys at Ace Automotive clearly explained to her what was being done, did not condescend to her (as I've heard is done at a few other shops when "little ladies" come in) and even pointed out areas to watch on the vehicle while it was on the lift so that she could see precisely what they were describing. I would have given 5 stars, but I've been spoiled be my previous mechanic in Los Angeles. Overall, a very solid shop. read more

ACE Automotive was recommended by Walmart on Grantline Rd. I went to Walmart to determine if I needed new tires. They determined I did, but also suggested I get my front end alignment checked. Hence, they referred me to ACE as an option. Ironically, I already had Ace bookmarked based on their previous good reviews of being good and honest mechanics. The manager, Pat, was very helpful and friendly. His mechanics were very quick to assess whether an alignment was needed. He recommended a 4 wheel alignment to be on the safe side. I agreed, as the cost difference was $20 (no-brainer). He accommodated by schedule and offered that my car could remain on their lot a few extra days after completion since I was planning an out of town trip. I didn't take him up on the offer, but wanted to include in this review to share how accommodating they are willing to be. I got my car back within 4 hours of dropping off. This was a lot sooner than I expected since I told him I didn't need my car back by a certain time. I was expecting a call closer to their closing time, but again it was around noon when he said my car was ready for pickup. Sweet! I suspect $99 for an all wheel alignment is typical. I felt Pat and his team are honest and good at what they do. Oh...another good note which I personally think is worth noting...while I was there there were a couple of businesses that dropped off their service vehicles (or trucks) for mechanic work. I think that's a very good indication of quality, honest work since vehicles used to provide service must be reliable and having a reliable mechanic certainly helps with that need. What kind of cars do ACE Automotive work on? To quote the owner, "We work on all of them." My car recently had the check engine light come on and refused to change gears. I called my usual mechanic, The Volksdoktor, who had no openings for two weeks. Needing a car to get to and from work this was not going to be a viable option. After some searching I found ACE Automotive who were more than happy to check out my 2001 Beetle. These guys could have taken me for a ride. I was prepared to hear my transmission was shot. But what they did was run all the tests and found that my recently replaced battery caused a false code. Transmission is fine. The transmission guy gave it his seal of approval. Need an honest mechanic in the New Albany area? Look no further. They are easily located on 8th street. Just look for the checkered red and white garage. Disappointed and let down by Ace. My car wasn't firing and they called back to tell me I need a NEW distributor. I never replaced a whole distributor so I asked them what part in the distributor was bad. They said they only replace the whole thing in this situation. They quoted me $650.00 for the work. My father and I replaced the rotor in 30 minutes for $17 bucks!!!! What robbery this would have been if I decided to let ACE do the work. They could've easily diagnosed this and fixed it for MUCH cheaper. They are wasteful and gouge people who don't know about cars. read more

Back in Illinois, from a great trip through Southern Indiana First off it was a pleasure seeing people doing what they are passionate about. Secondly I felt assured after having my oil changed on my 97 Grand Marquis that the remainder of my trip would be a better. The service and detail was outstanding. The "Blowing" out the line of the windshield washer insured proper cleaning of the windows. There is so much to be said about old school ways merged with the new ways. In my mind I would consider the service at ACE, like a full size spare tire: Solid: full of thread, ready for the road and able to go the distance. Vs the little donut spare full of uncertainties. While the car was being serviced I was engaged with conversation with Allen, as Bill worked his passion on the car. The service is great at ACE Automotive. I was really impressed with their automotive repair knowledge. I was having electrical issues with my Corvette and had several different shops look at it; including the dealership, Coyle Chevrolet, and none of them could isolate the fault. I called these guys on a Saturday at 10:00 regarding a problem with my Mini Cooper S. The front brake pad needed replacing and had worn down to the sensor and required immediate attention. I was quoted at a fair price and gave them the go ahead to replace the front brake pads, rotors, and the sensors. They had my car in there and out by closing time at 3:00pm. They even stayed 30 minutes late so I could pick up the car so I would have it the rest of the weekend. Great service and competitive pricing. I signed up for yelp just so I could write this review. The owner of this company is one of the most honest people I have ever met...his wife or girlfriend had accidentally hit my car one day while parked infront of my house and he went door to door to find out who's car it was so he could have it fixed by him at his own cost. I have had a tire rod and sway bar issue with my new van and he has agreed to fix it at a very low cost where most others were wanting over $200+ more to fix it. I will continually go back to Ace because they do work and are honest. The owner actually said "If I can't look at myself in the mirror in the morning then I have failed at my job" that right there tells you he will fix your vehicle and be honest with you about pricing and what is wrong!!! read more

I've had good and bad experiences with Ace Automotive on Cherry street. The good, Danny, the only mechanic at this shop can do brakes and change oil. The bad, he's not reliable for any other major repairs like dianosing the difference between an AWD vehicle being low in front differential fluid and needing a new transmission. Plus, when replacing the tie rod ends on my BMW he neglected to tell me that he broke a bolt that holds the control arm bushing housing nor did he properly tighten a bolt that holds the tie rod end in place rendering my vehicle unsafe (thanks Mike John's Imports for finding and fixing his error). I like to work on my vehicles myself but often I don't have time nor a lift to perform the work needed and Ace Automotive is very close to my home. But with the latest folly, suggesting that my 2004 Subaru needs a new transmission, a $3,000 repair, when it was just a matter of low front differential fluid, a $10 fix, I doubt if I will ever take another vehicle of mine to this establishment.
