    After lift kit

So big shout out to John from accolade auto along with the owner of primitive racing for their outstanding customer service. I have never found 2 companies that are as synergetic and proud of their work like these two. I'd just bought a new 21 outback and wanted to lift it straight away. After doing a lot of research I determined that the primitive racing kit was the best kit out there, in addition it was on sale for the holidays. So I picked it up and they referred me to accolade auto for the install. This kit includes front and rear king springs, sub frame spacer, brake line extensions etc. The whole shebang. With it being such an involved install (to me, YMMV) I decided to have accolade auto do it. I called them expecting to be quoting well north of 1k+. I was told 499$! I was also told half an hour of labor for each skid plate install as I had bought two skid plates as well. Bear in mind I was quoted 1300$+ from another local shop for the same work. So accolade auto came in a full 800$ dollars less. Right at the same time that this is happening I am shipping out to AIT in the Army as well as moving, so I didn't have time for a hassle. The kit is installed and at first it's great. Within the first ten miles it doesn't make a noise. After that though it starts creaking. A lot. The car had less then 600 miles on it and needless to say I wasn't happy my new car sounded worse then my first car (a 95 Nissan Maxima) I posted a question in one of the local FB pages asking if it was normal. Apparently John saw it, looked up my information, and called me. That was amazing. Told me to bring it in so I did. At this point I am about a week away from shipping out, and am right in the middle of the move. John lets me borrow a loaner so I can get home to my family. The last thing I wanted to do before being gone for several months was to be stuck in the shop. So that was awesome. At this point realize that John is eating the cost of labor. He has two techs work on it the whole day. I'm not sure what he pays his techs, let's assume 30$ an hour. It takes them all day to come to what they thought was the solution. So 8x60=460$. That doesn't factor in the cost of overhead, techs not working on other jobs that make money, insurance etc. John probably lost over 600$ in fixed costs that day. And he just ate it because he stands behind his word, and if he says he'll make it right he'll make it right. Subaru apparently hadn't greased some bushing surface or something. IDK I had a lot going on and was in a rush getting out of there. Well the damn creaking comes back. I say maybe it'll go away. My wife's roasting me because "you just bought a new car and spend x amount of money on the lift and the car sounds worse" you know how wives can be. So I call John up. His techs had spent all damn day not that long ago trying to figure it out, and they tried a LOT of things. I ship out unable to find the time to deal with the issue any longer. John reaches out to my wife and coordinates a time to drop it off. His techs spend several more days looking into the issue. They look at every single component of the suspension time and and time again. Now here is where the owner of primitive racing comes in John and the owner of primitive racing have a good working relationship, and the owner of primitive said to bring the car to primitive and they'll all look at it together. So now the owner of primitive racing, and John are both losing time and their techs time to work on the issue of the creaking. They eventually discover that the creaking has to do with an ungreased sway bar or something and the position of a skid plate. I didn't understand too well because I am getting this secondhand from my wife (and she doesn't know anything about cars, nor do I really) as I'm in AIT and busy with that. So the creaking is completely fixed now! John and the owner of primitive racing probably lost well north of 1500$ in fixed labor and overhead costs dealing with the issue. For two companies to stand behind their product and work in this day of age is incredible. Their word is a commitment. If you order any primitive racing products promote stands behind it. If accolade auto does any work on your Subaru they stand behind it no matter what. These guys easily could have said "well it's a new car and it'll break in, don't worry about it" and sent me on my way and I wouldn't have known any better. But they're good honest men and took care of me and my wife. We are leaving Oregon soon but if we were to stay I wouldn't do business with any other companies.

A mechanic you should avoid…read more I was referred to this mechanic shop by a friend who owns a car dealership in Hillsboro. I was told he has extensive experience with the electrical systems of older cars. As I was restoring a 1959 Mercedes 190SL, this morning on July 11th, I naturally visited this place. The job I had was relatively small and manageable. It was only to remove the fuse box and two additional connections, each with only four wires connected to them, from my old wiring harness and replace it with a new, identical harness, one with the same color-coded wiring. I drove over 25 miles and arrived at this shop 10 minutes past 9 in the morning, where I was greeted by one of the workers. He said the owner isn't there yet and will come in about 30 minutes, and I replied, ' Okay, I will be back around 10 O'clock. Meanwhile, a truck arrived, and I was informed that it belonged to the owner. Rob came, and I, with a smile on my face, said good morning to him. His answer was, "Why are you here?" We open at 10 AM. I said, 'If you want, I can come back at 10?' He asked why I was there. I explained and acknowledged that this should be a tiny and easy job for him. At the same time, I told him that, as a restaurateur and chef, one of my former customers who has a dealership in Hillsboro had recommended him. He spoke in a coarse voice and angrily looked at me, saying, 'No, it's not a small and easy job. You grab a few ingredients and put them on top of each other, and then you call yourself a chef.' It is a tremendous job. And at the same time, he said we are not working on any car older than the 1980s. I told him that, less than a month ago, someone on your Google Business page reviewed that you worked on his 1970 Chevelle Malibu. This time, he said to write down what car I have so he will find me another mechanic. I told him what my car was, and this time he came to the door and asked me to leave, repeating that he would find another person for me and contact me. I wondered and asked how he would do it without knowing who I am or my phone number. Anyway, I left and the only impression I got from this place and Rob is that the color of your skin, your hair, and your accent play an essential role in whether he accepts you as a new customer and does business with you or not. If Rob had been honest and refused to do my job because it was small or he was swamped, rather than the way he acted, I would have thanked him and left without giving him any bad reviews. However, he decided otherwise. If I knew that, I would never go to this rundown mechanic shop.

But unfortunately, this repair experience has convinced me I should never go to him again, and i will be recommending that others stay clear as well. I had a Kia Niro that needed an engine replacement. The Kia dealership gave me a quote, but i decided to ask Eric for a quote as well because i trusted him more to do the job. I paid him $7500 for the job and towed him the car. He asked me to pay in advance because he was having trouble paying his taxes. The job took several months, during which Eric didn't give any updates on the repair and wouldn't respond to any of my communication. When he finally responded after many attempts to get in touch, he told me there was a problem with the battery and only Kia could service it, so we got it towed back to Kia. He also gave excuses for why it took so long to repair, saying he had to close his shop because some of the workers got covid. I came out and used my own AAA service to tow the car to the kia dealership. Kia looked at it and found that there was no problem with the battery, but the problem was the engine was installed incorrectly. I was playing middle man calling the kia dealership, then Eric, back and forth, and eventually gave Eric the dealership's number and he said he would work with them to figure out what was wrong with the car. I heard nothing back from Eric for months. Eventually, Kia called me and said they were impounding my car. I dropped everything and got it towed back to Eric immediately. Still nothing. I went to his shop a few days later with an invoice for him to pay for the tow, which he partially paid with cash. No apology, anything. He just wanted me out of there. He told me it would take a week or so and he wouldn't charge me. Another month went by, i heard nothing from him at all. I showed up at his shop and asked for an update on my car. He said some of his workers were on vacation, and another was in a motorcycle accident. The repair hadn't been started on. He said it would take another 3-4 days. He also offered me a loaner car, which he never delivered on. Over the next weeks i reached out multiple times, only for him to ignore all of my communication. As of today, it appears no repairs have begun. This entire process has so far taken over 6 months. Multiple people have advised me to sue, maybe i still should i guess- but that's not really in my character. There have been no apologies at any point, and it has been near impossible for me to figure out what's even going on without driving almost an hour to his shop, borrowing my wife's car when she's not using it. Eric is a nice guy, and a good mechanic. But over the last six months he has made it abundantly clear that i was his very last priority, and he didn't care at all about the substandard work, numerous delays, or the ordeals i went through as a customer. I feel very disrespected by a man that i trusted and respected for many years.

Professional and…read morecost effective, I would recommend this business to anyone looking for a no-swindle type auto repair shop. I have never had any problems. Having said that, my last visit will be, well, my last visit. Not only did the mechanic that looked at my van misdiagnose it and seemed more interested in appearing "cool", he wasn't wearing a mask. I am a diabetic and my wife has had pneumonia a couple of times over the years, so we have to be especially careful these days. When I informed Mr. Heaton by text about this, I received no answers at all. After waiting a week, I texted him again. He answered, then when I brought up the mask issue, I was again ignored. I saved the texts. Bottom line: If you are into anti-masking, (-and I assume Trump support), and other reprehensibly dangerous practices, continue to go to Heaton Automotive. There are plenty of Oregonians who agree with this stance, so I'm sure his business will thrive, regardless. In the meantime, I'm going to Clay's Auto. At least they care enough about their customers to take the proper precautions. I have to say, ghosting people on text who are trying to stay healthy is beyond immature. At least stand up for your ridiculous beliefs.
