Part 2: I would've given Davidson Health & Rehab on Old Salisbury Rd. in Lexington, NC (formally…read moreAlston Brook) 0 stars if allowed. This is an addendum to my first review Part 1. My insurance advocate dropped by to tell me what Nursing was reporting to them & based on that, they were going to discharge me early unless I appealed it, which I did after questioning PT & OT who denied reporting I should be discharged & stating I needed more intensive therapy. Nursing staff knew I was keeping records. I've had 25+ years of hospital experience. Believe me what I saw here would've prompted immediate firings! Now, this is a Rehab Unit, they moved a raving screaming lady in across the hall, totally out of her mind. Screaming she was going to kill all her family & everyone there. She was tied to the bed. They wouldn't close her door. Her call light wouldn't work, so they gave her a COW BELL, yes a cow bell, which she rang ALL night for days. I got no sleep between the ringing & hollering. Long-time Staff told me she should never have been admitted to the rehab wing, but that often happened so they could charge more for rooms on Rehab. Administration came into my room the next morning saying they were going to move her, but NEVER did & never fixed her call light! No sleep definitely interfered with my therapy, which is what I was there for. On exam, doc suspected a blood clot in my surgical leg & ordered a doppler. My surgeon wanted me immediately transferred to his facility for the doppler. They refused. 3-4 hours later when the ultrasound tech arrived, she said she told them how long it would be before she come. I told her they'd refused me immediate testing & that I'd like to watch. I could read that it was negative, so I was relieved. Thank goodness or I might be dead. I wouldn't want to arrest there, I fear that staff would be incapable of saving me! No staff ever gave me the results until I purposefully asked 3-5 days later. I myself had to educate nurse assistants how to make ice packs, then constantly instruct on use of ice machine once it arrived. I was not able to get pain meds on time, baths, on-time meals if I got one at all, or anything else I needed. Everyone in Housekeeping, OT, PT, 1 CNA & 1 Nurse during 1 12-hour shift were great. But I was in store for another problem. On a Saturday night my leg swelled, had pain & warmth. My nurse looked at & suspected cellulitis. I asked her to call doc on call. She refused, saying he wouldn't come until Monday anyway, & even if she had the blood drawn, he wouldn't read it til Monday. I asked her to send help to move my things (nightstand, CPAP, ice machine, tray) over beside bed as I'd been sleeping in a recliner. I knew my leg needed to be higher. No one ever came, so I had to do it all myself. I decided then & there I was going home that very next Monday, even if appeal was approved by insurance. I stopped my heavier pain meds to be fully coherent & non drowsy. Called my son so he could move his patients to afternoon so I could get out of there. Monday morning, I'm informed by Business Manager that the doctor has to see me to write the discharge. I'm set for discharge & doc just realized nurses have NEVER changed my surgical dressing (should've been done 5 days post op - we're at day 12ish) & refuses to discharge me until I've had another bath while incision is still protected & dressing is changed. Well CNA first refuses bath, coz it's not my day. I told her to tell that to the doc! Well I got my bath but Head Nurse doesn't change dressing until 7:45PM that evening. Delayed D/C by a day because nothing was set up for home health or an available way to get there. To top all this off, I get home & my home PT finds out the nurse did not totally remove the dressing. PT took before & after pics, correctly removed dressing & sent pics to doc & her agency. You think surely nothing else can go wrong...WRONG. I get a bill 6 months later in the form of a letter from the new business manager not even stating what it was for. I reported this to insurance, which according to insurance is illegal. This current business manager then made up an official-looking bill & sent it to my son, charging for dates of service already paid by insurance. Isn't double billing considered FRAUD?! Again, NEVER SEND YOUR LOVED ONES to Davidson Health and Rehab Center!

A WELL DESERVED -1 STAR RATING…read more Please believe me when I say the only positive reviews are from staff! LHCC is absolutely horrible and dirty. They do not provide residents with the level of care and respect they deserve. Don't bother reporting the conditions the ill-equipped Director of Nursing as she is clueless! Patients are given substandard meals. No snacks or ensure are offered during shift for those who don't eat. Patients are not turned as prescribed by the state. Patients are not even offered simple things such as a face cloth daily, no bendable straws, bedding and clothing are always full of crumbs, etc.. Yes it seems minor, but these things preserve dignity. Now for the more pressing complaints. Patients are provided paper thin diapers, so they are always soaking wet which in turn leaves a horrible (worse than most) urine smell on the halls. Adults are left in a shirt and diaper uncovered with the doors open all day. How degrading for them and their family. If a patient refuses life saving meds it is only noted, families are not contacted. Sure, I understand patient rights but what about common sense? In summary, if you are not able to visit your loved one several times a day like i do.......DO NOT LEAVE THEM HERE! Now i must say, the nurses on the 200 hall are amazing and helpful and 1 OR 2 CNAS. Several of the CNAs are 65+ years old. No disrespect to working seniors but realistically this a physically demanding job and things they are not able to do such as turning patients, constantly walking up and down halls answering call bells ect IS SIMPLY NOT DONE!
