We called AAA to come unlock the car to see if maybe they were in there. While I had the AAA technician there (from Oxnard Towing), I asked him for advice in the event we didn't find the keys. He explained the locksmithing process and then asked if I wanted a referral. I said sure, and he referred Rudy. He said he was reasonable and transparent on price and easy to get a hold of. After a little more searching, we decided to just bite the bullet and call the locksmith. I'm glad we did. A days-long stressful situation quickly resolved in like 45 minutes. Yes, seriously. I called Rudy and he picked up right away. After getting some background information, he said he needed to check his inventory and call me back. He called back within 3 minutes and was upfront with pricing. We were given two pricing structures, for out-the-door pricing. We went with the higher price (which included the key fob). I was worried that he wouldn't have availability until next week, but he said he was free now and could come right over. He was at our house within another 5-7 minutes. I greeted him, and he got started right away. I went back to work (wfh) and barely got through part of my task when I heard the car start up in the driveway. I couldn't believe how quick it was. He made sure to check the key on all key openings (driver and passenger doors, trunk, glove box). He couldn't get the key fob programmed - he even tried a different key fob but the car is old and we honestly didn't care about the fob. So he lowered the price for us to the first option pricing (without the fob). From the initial time that I called him, to the time I sent him payment (he takes cash, zelle, venmo), it was 46 minutes exactly. He was polite, quick, and obviously knew what he was doing. I can't speak to his other locksmith services and capabilities, but at least for my daughter's Corolla, it was just so easy and pain-free. I made an inquiry on Yelp to get quotes from local locksmiths but none of them wanted to help, except for one that wanted a lot of money to cut the blanks. I don't know if they are all incompetent so are afraid to cut transponder keys wrong or if they just don't like the idea that they can't sell me a couple transponder key for $120 each so don't want to help. We keep hearing that we should support small businesses but when I tried to these locksmiths couldn't be bothered to help me. Seems kind of stupid to turn away business because it isn't big enough but then sit there doing nothing and making no money at all while waiting for the big jobs. I was almost ready to give up but checked reviews on Yelp one more time and came across Able Lock and Key. A couple of the reviews said they will cut blank keys that you bring to them so I went to see them. When i walked in I was greeted by a locksmith behind the counter. I explained my situation and asked if they could cut my blanks to match my original key. Without hesitation he replied "We can cut them". I asked for a price and he inquired with the owner who quoted a reasonable price which included a mechanical key. I wasn't sure what the mechanical key would be good for but I soon found out. The locksmith asked for the year, make, and model of car. Then he and the owner looked up some info in a book to cut the keys. Since the transponder key blanks were pre-programmed to the replacement computer, if they got cut wrong I would be out of luck. So what the locksmith did was cut the mechanical key to match my original key. He then asked me to take the mechanical key and test it in my door and ignition to verify that it worked, which it did, perfectly. Once I verified the mechanical key worked the locksmith said he now knows he can cut my two transponder blanks and they will work, and he was absolutely right. Both of the transponder blanks he cut worked perfectly the first time. A few years ago I had a couple keys made to match my original by a different locksmith company and it took two locksmiths almost 30 minutes to get them to work. They had to keep going back and forth between the shop and my car repeatedly filing and grinding them to get them to work and not stick. This was not the case at Able Lock and Key. The locksmith was an absolute expert and the keys he cut worked perfectly the first time. I am so glad I came across Able Lock and Key. They were willing to help when other locksmiths wouldn't, charged a reasonable price, and did the job with expert precision and accuracy. When I need a locksmith in the future Able Lock and Key is the only one I will go to. They deserve your business.
