Best Burns Night Celebration in Atlanta! Great poetry, music and dance!…read moreThanks to Academy Theatre for your support

According to their website, Aris or Arís (pronounced ah-REESH) is the Irish word for "again" (in…read morereference to "encore"). I'm telling you this because I would have pronounced it AHR-ris, and I would have been embarrassingly incorrect. It seems like this particular theater company is all about the Celtic arts. The plays they produce have Celtic influence (Irish, Welsh, Scottish, and English), which in and of itself makes this theater company different. They've been around since 2013, and I'm not entirely sure if for these past few years, they have all of their plays at Georgia Broadcasting, or not. But since that's where I saw the play I went to yesterday, I'm going to venture that they are operating out of it for now. Who would have thought that within the heart of the city, there was a gem of a theater company like this? As someone who can't do an Irish or Scottish accent to save my life (well, I CAN pronounce car and party, but that's pretty much thanks to "The Boondock Saints"), the immersion of the actors on stage able to produce this accent is incredibly impressive. This theater company doesn't seem to produce the kind of theater you take your middle school class to (unless, of course, you want to enlighten them, but since parents want to pretend the night isn't dark and full of terrors...), it's much more enjoyable to an adult audience. And I am definitely okay with that! Cutesy fluff has a time and a place, but dark and witty is more of my preference. PROS: - This has to be one of the only places you can do to downtown that has free parking! I would recommend coming here a dash early, though, as the parking garage can be hard to navigate as a first timer. -Superb acting, and the actors did a good job with their various accents. They thickened up at parts, but I was still able to pick up the conversation, regardless. -A small, intimate stage, with stadium seating means the acoustics are easily heard throughout. -It's unassigned, seat-yourself seating, so you can pick a seat wherever your heart desires. -It seems like they offer more adult/mature plays (intellectual, witty, no fluff), which is my favorite kind of theater. CONS: -The lot was kind of hard to find. I drove past it the first time. (see below tip to help you figure out where to go!) -Lots and lots of walking, which means you really need to get here around AT LEAST 30 minutes early, in case you get lost. THE VERDICT: It's a smaller, intimate theater, with stadium-style seating (the front is lower that the chairs behind). On the way into the theater, they did their best to assuage confusion, with a bunch of signs pointing towards this way or that way. They also made sure to have ushers stationed around to help. (For directions to the theater, look at the below tip) I really adore smaller theaters, and despite its petite size, I had no problem hearing the actors on stage; they utilized their space very well. It fills a definite niche market as yet seemingly undefined in Atlanta acting, and I love that they do that. I'm excited to see what else this theater has to offer. TIPS: For parking, when you see the building, drive towards it. The parking garage is set off from the road, and isn't initially evident. A small bar goes up and down (no ticket retrieval necessary). Drive up from the ground level two levels (so you go to parking level 2), and park. There will be two sets of elevators. Go towards the far left elevators, and you'll see a sign telling you how to get to the proper floor. From there, go down the long hallway on your right (you'll see secretaries set up at large tables), and go to the left of them. There you'll see a table set up for the theater. You'll then be ushered down another hall and see people handing out programs.

Avondale Estates is such a pretty area, and there's a great little Irish pub about a block away that you can visit after the show. Delightful!

About 50 people. 99% Indians and about half were older than 45. Most do not understand the concept of improv. The Show: We had 2 improv comedians from the LM perform for about 45 mins. The Result: The first half of their performance was mediocre. The later half was decent. Analysis: My wife and I had gone to see a show by a group of LM comedians with a couple of our friends. At that show, the same thing happened - it took them half the show to warm up. The audience at that show was small and most of the people had not been to an improv show before. So, it seems to me that if I was hiring improv comedians, I should only do it for a crowd that has seen something like this before. And for LM, they should not be taking half the show to warm up. With about 10 years of experience for their experienced comedians, they must start with being funny and by the end of the show, people should be rolling on the floors. So, all in all, rating an improv show is also about rating the audience. In our case, the audience was not ready for such a show. Thus, overall, the show is rated as average or below average.

It was so amazing to see all the nice planes and the history of how delta came into being. The staff at this place are so wonderful and helpful. Don't miss out the attraction of the virtual flight screen where you can pick your destination and see those places in a boarding experience. In the end you get to take photo and get a printed copy courtesy of the museum. You will pick that up in the shop. We thought we could get some souvenir of model plane. But in my opinion the prices are in the order of a first class tickets. There is also outer area with different planes and also the 747 that you can get to experiment inside and out. Overall a great spot to visit by if you are closer to the airport.

Entering the parking lot, you are greeted by two large planes and its tempting to stop and gawk but you'll have a chance to later. Mid-day Thursday, the museum was pretty empty so it was easy to look at and interact with all the exhibits. The first room plays a relatively quick video before opening up the the Legacy Hangar with a couple plans and a children's area. There is an interactive game for plane control signals that was fun! Moving on to the next space is a hall of different types and brands of planes that Delta uses or have used, neat to see them all in one place. The next hangar, Spirit Hangar, has a large B-767 plane, "The Spirit of Delta". Surrounding the plane is about destinations, delta luggage and uniforms through the year, acquisitions, and the flight simulator. It is cool to be able to be up close to such a large plane see the wheels and mechanisms underneath. Up on the mezzanine is where you go through a jet bridge and into the plane to see a little bit of what it was like and learn about the history of the plane. It is full of memorabilia that were fitting during the planes time. After the inside tour we went out to the 747 experience. About half of the aircraft seats are still in tact, and it is cool to interact with the various different types of cabins. There is a cut away of under the plane to see how it is constructed and various exhibits about the plane and moving it to the museum. Outside the plane you can walk up close and personal with the underside of the plane and other planes on site, including a DC-9, B-757, and DC-7B. It was a great spot to visit, the museum gift shop is stocked with a variety of Delta and aviation gifts and clothes. I would recommend to anyone with an aviation or Delta interest.

I've watched magic here and there throughout my life, and I was still blown away by many of the tricks that Peter did. His pre-show close up card magic was awesome as well - make sure you arrive early for that! When my boyfriend and I went, it happened to be a very intimate crowd, so everyone got to be a part of Peter's show! Such a fun, unique date night idea. We bought VIP tickets for front row seating and I highly recommend that. It was more mind-blowing to see his magic up close than to be sitting in the back and kinda being able to see some aspects of the show. Parking in downtown can be an absolute nightmare, especially if there's other events going on. If you're willing to walk ~15 minutes, there's free street parking off of Mills St NW. In my experience, parking here allowed me to largely avoid downtown traffic nightmare, as well as $$$ parking.

He did a cool card trick and got us tickets up row 2 and discount for being hotel guests. It's a small show but it made it more fun and the vibe was just off the roof. I couldn't take my eyes away from him and I'm a HUGE believer in allagic and supernatural so I was entrance by all the acts. I took a course and watched so many debunking shows about magicians and psychics but I couldn't not figure out how anything was possible. He made the effort to remember guests from last week and even remembered us the next day. Such a fun evening activity and definitely recommend going. I know for a fact when we go back to Atlanta, this is something I need to go to again.
