the owners are super and quite knowledgeable. They are willing to bend over backwards to find the right look for you and show you whatever you want .... never rushed or annoyed like so many optical places. I recommend academy optical without reservation. read more

"Window To My Soul" Academy Optical, an eye opening experience. I stopped in for a new pair of glasses, and decided to visit Academy Optical; I had my prescription with me and was able to order my glasses on the spot. The selection of glasses are unique and one of a kind which is rare. Diane and Nancy are absolutely amazing. The guidance provided here was "Top Notch" prices are reasonable and the quality is excellent. Thank you so much for keeping in tradition to providing a personal touch. Academy Optical "I See The Light" you will see me again. read more

We have been seeing Nancy at Academy Optical for close to 10 years. They have a great selection of the top brands and always provide wonderful service. Any future purchases we make will done with Nancy at Academy Optical. read more

They have the most gorgeous and unique eyeglass frames around!! No need to settle for ordinary. The staff are extremely helpful and Nancy really helped me find the perfect frames. They are so nice and caring, their luxury brand selection is fabulous - offering everything from Chanel, Gucci and Tom Ford to Oliver Peoples and more niche high-end brands. They are extremely knowledgeable and everyone I have sent there has come back to me thanking me for introducing them to the store. The level of service is unmatched anywhere and their recommendations are so thoughtful. I highly recommend Academy Optical for all your glasses and sunglasses needs! read more

This will be my go to place for glasses repair and designer frames. My titanium gucci frame got broken and I was told by three different optical stores ( Eye glass factory, lens crafter and Gabe's frame lab) that it cannot be fixed and that I had to buy new ones. I looked on yelp for the fourth time hoping to find someone who could be helpful and found this Academy Optical. The lady who answered the phone was very nice and told me to bring in my glasses and they will try to see if it can be fixed. After seeing the frame, I was told to check back in one hour and they will try to fix it. I came after an hour and I was handed my $3,000 gucci frame mended and looked like it was never broken before and to my surprise they only charged me $25 to which I added some tip with a huge THANK YOU. I would highly recommend them. Everybody has their own perspective and personal experiences but to me it was a pleasant and helpful experience doing business with Academy Optical. Thank you again for your help! read more

My wife picked up her new glasses yesterday and she could not be more thrilled. They are Swiss Flex, very light, and expensive! But they are the only thing that fit her petite face and Diane and Nancy went out of their way to make sure the glasses were a perfect fit for her. The Sisters, as we call them, are the most professional and friendly people we have met in a long, long time. read more

They are always cheerful and helpful at academy. We've been shopping there for more than a decade. I wouldn't think of going anywhere else.

My husband and I get all our eyewear from Academy Optical. I get compliments on my Shamballa glasses all the time. Every year we can't wait to set our flex spending money aside to buy a new pair of eye glasses or sun glasses. They have a great selection of designer frames. read more

I've been referring friends here for awhile. The staff is super friendly, and incredibly knowledgeable. The selection is great. In these times of Covid they wore masks and gloves and wiped and sanitized everything throughly. I will be coming back soon! read more

My last two pairs of sunglasses have made people stop and notice me. If you want something that's eye-catching or something that is a little more subdued, academy optical has what you need. I wish I could buy a new pair every month. I love them that much. read more

Ordered Chanel frames in black and received tortoise frames. Required second trip back to swap lenses in the frames I ordered. Disappointing read more

This place is a blessing. Nancy and Diana are some of the most genuine, kind, patient, and wonderful people I have ever met! They truly go above and beyond for the customer. I would recommend this place above any other glasses store for this level of customer care. read more

People need to go and read their filtered reviews before they make a purchase here! This is the worst place. I wrote a review a few weeks back after a AWFUL experience and of course these criminals are trying to hide it. But it's under filtered reviews. BTW, there's A LOT of bad reviews there. I wanted to follow up however... American Express gave me a FULL REFUND after I disputed my sale with these horrible people. I pray these people go out of business. Like I said they are THE WORST!! read more

This place is great!! They had a different selection of glasses then other competitors. They really tried to make me happy and take care of my issues I had with my glasses and seriously I couldn't have found a better place. I will always come back to them!!! I highly recommend you giving them a try!!!! read more

Academy Optical - Love my glasses - Eyewear & Opticians Near Me - Thousand Oaks, California

So disappointed! This place is OK to check out frames, but prices are double the normal asking price online or other stores in the area. Make sure you price check and let them know, they will come down in price if you ask. But beware of their misleading warranty if you do purchase here. After purchasing a pair of glasses, they convinced me to pay for their high quality lenses so I could get a free replacement if they ever got scratched. The lenses got scratched and when I asked to replace, they denied my new prescription. It was not made clear that it had to be the original prescription only, and when I confronted them, they made me feel like I was rude for asking. Bad Ethics, BEWARE! Follow-up: the owner called to follow up with me. She was very condescending and rude. Do not purchase here. Take your business elsewhere. read more

Love the selection of beautiful glasses. Great friendly service. They make sure you love your purchase.

Hello Yelp, have you ever bought something of value like say $350 eyeglass frames from a super nice boutique store next to Nordstroms? I did, it was Academy Optical in Thousand Oaks. Well I got home, tried the frames on again and decided they were a little flimsy and not exactly right for me...I told my wife I was gonna return them and look for something different, she said my raybans are fine and I have to agree. I went there at opening and told the gal (whom I know...her, her sister and mom) who's helped me with persols in the past, I'm a repeat customer...anyway I had buyers remorse and she said there are no returns only store credit. I said oh? There wasn't any custom work done on them, they still had the silkscreened logo on the factory lens in them. I am sick about it and since the return policy isn't posted or printed, I have to go through the credit card stop payment BS. Oy vey. I wish there was another way but for now, I have to give 1 star. Sorry. If you see this AO, get ahold of me so we can resolve or otherwise rescind this post. Randy (jack) read more

I am sorry but it is sad that the staff has to write fake reviews to make themselves look better. Though I have to say the second girl that was helping me was trying very hard. She was being polite and I almost bought the pair of glasses. Then i found out that it takes forever to get your glasses done. read more

Academy Optical is THE place for awesome glasses. The people here are so awesome, helpful, flexible, and kind. They are a family-owned business and they will help you find that amazing pair of glasses that will look great on you. My wife and I have purchased numerous pairs of glasses from them. It's an addiction! Because every time we stop by, there are new amazing glasses. If you're looking for that unique and stylish pair of glasses, that's not like the typical stuff out there... You need to come here. This is where you will find those super star glasses, the ones that will fit you personality, and glasses that people will compliment you on. The staff is awesome at helping you choose the right glasses. They will be honest with their opinions and make some great picks of glasses to try. They can also do your lenses and have the newest options like the mirrored Transitions in colors like Pink, Gold, etc. You can also purchase your super cool glasses here with your HSA account. Thank You Academy Optical! read more

High value for the expertise and quality you get from Academy Optical. Now I know why they have so many fans! Just over the moon with my ultra clear Trivex Varilux Physio progressive lenses. I have some very expensive Zero-G Eyewear titanium frame sunglasses. I wanted my new progressive lenses matched to the existing gradient lens look. They look identical to what came in the sun glasses! I'm won over of Trivex varilux physio over standard polycarbonate lenses as well. Nancy and Diane were both amazing to work with. They followed up with me as well to make sure I was just as pleased as when I first walked out. I thought the mall just meant high prices but I was so wrong. What you will get is high value, expert help and amazing glasses!! read more

Nancy and Diana are the best! Not only are they so caring and helpful, they also have the best styles and know what the latest in fashion is, if that means anything to you. They are honest, knowledgeable and if you have an issue with your glasses or prescription they are so understanding, making remedy quickly! I've been with them for over 20 years! I wouldn't go anywhere else! read more

I've purchased many frames from Academy Optical. Nancy has always been great. However on this particular occasion, it has been more than a month since purchasing and I still can't wear the glasses. I am unable to focus properly therefore I'm slightly nauseated. They've tried a few different things to get them right. They offered me an exchange. I'm disappointed because I love the frames and they cost a small fortune. read more

I got this fancy pair of glasses a year ago that I never use because they hurt my nose. I went to several places before to try to fixed them but nothing seems to work. I was about to just throw them away. Yerterday I went to the Academy Optical and after some adjustments I don't feel any pain. Finally! I used them today for about 6 hours and I don't see those ugly red marks in my nose. They know what they're doing! read more

Rude service in the mall, walked in recently, no one was in the store and was inquiring about different frame types. Would not help me think about my PD and eligible frames. Bad experience would not recommend read more

Love Ilona, Nancy, Diane and the rest of the staff. This family owned business does not disappoint when it comes to quality, selection and service. They have the hippest eyeglasses and sunglasses in town from Chanel, Oliver Peoples, Oakley, Chrome Hearts and SO many more. I guarantee you will love the ladies there. Very entertaining! I've purchased over 6 pair myself and keep on going back. PS - They accept FSA dollars, so if you need glasses or sunglasses cash out at year end for sure! read more

Just wanted to correct the information on the EXCELLENT other Optical Lab I went to. The company name is EyeLab (not EyeMed, as I stated in my earlier review) and they have been around for about 40 years, I think. They are located on Lankershim, in North Hollywood. read more

Terribly overpriced. They charge more for the same frames every other place sells, plus standard Rx lenses cost double. Save yourself money and shop elsewhere. read more

Itx funny how my review from almost 3 years ago is "not recommended" because it tells the TRUTH about this AWFUL business.... I don't know where to start with Academy Optical. This place is AWFUL!!! During the last 5 years I spent over $3,000 in glasses at this place and I have recieved the WORST customer service. My last pair of $700+ glasses started to deteriorate after 13 months, when the glasses were brought in they said this was "normal" and theres nothing they can do, after insisting that they send the glasses to the manufacturer they did. When the manufactuer said that its out of warrenty by 1 month (12 month warrenty) they offered to take $100 off my next pair of glasses I bought there. What a F#&(*@!^ joke. Every year I need to spend $700+ on glasses to get $100 off, UNBELEIVABLE. The owner of Academy optical, IILONA was unbeleivably RUDE to my husband telling him to STOP TALKING when he was trying to explain to her how much money we spend at her store every year. I've NEVER met such a RUDE woman in my life. After looking around I realized how OVERPRICED this bussiness is combined with their HORRIBLE customer service. I will NEVER buy from this place again. read more

After a long search I finally found my Persol here. Not a huge selection, but a really nice one. Good price too.

I was in dire need of some help with my glasses. I accidentally stepped on them and brought them in hopes they could reform them. The woman at the counter was more than amazing! She was happy to help, patient with my requests AND reformed my glasses back perfectly. 10/10 for their customer service. Thank you so much! read more

They are always cheerful and helpful at academy. We've been shopping there for more than a decade. I wouldn't think of going anywhere else.

These ladies are the best in the business. They know what's "in," they know what looks good on your face and they deal only in quality. Their lenses are incomparable. They've been making my lenses for 15 years and then, with the recession, I decided to go try out a cheaper place and the difference was striking. If you wear glasses all the time like I do, once you wear a pair of Academy's glasses you'll never be able to go back. read more

Just returned from from purchasing new lenses at a different establishment. I wish I had never entered Academy Optical. I paid 1500.00 for 2 pair of glasses. When I returned one pair because of scratches on the lenses all I received was acknowledgement, "yes they are". They were still under warranty non scratch lenses! Returned on another occasion and was greeted with such indifference. Total cost will be 1100.00 for this pair! Disappointed to say the least. It wouldn't have cost her a thing but time. Stay clear of this place. read more

I have been buying glasses here for ten years. I have always had great service. Recently I purchased a pair of prescription Oakley Flak Jacket sunglasses. I picked them up and the next day left for a 3 week vacation in Colorado. The glasses seemed a little blurry and all my previous Oakley s were always super clear. When I got back in town I went to talk to Nancy who sold me the glasses about the blurriness . Nancy was very nice, she checked the glasses and they check out to the prescription. Then Nancy offered to send the glasses back to Oakley for further evaluation. I agreed and a couple of days later I received a call from Nancy at Academy Optical. Oakley told her that they could not make those glasses in my prescription right because of my extreme astigmatism. Oakley said that they should have notified Academy Optical about that before making the glasses. Nancy then told me that Oakley would make me a new pair of glasses in a compatible frame of my choice. I agreed and few days later came back to Academy Optical and Nancy had already picked out the compatible frames and had them ready to try on! Nancy even suggested the frame that I liked the best (Crosslinks). Nancy sent them off to be made and a few days later I picked up my glasses and they are EXCELLENT! Nancy followed up a few days later with a phone call to see how I liked the glasses, perfect I said. I really appreciate the service that I received at Academy Optical. I am a lifetime customer !!! read more
