Last Inn - There's a well in the pub!

I used doggiepubs app to find a decent, dog friendly pub and the Last Inn was top of the list and, in fact, the first place we saw as we arrived. As a great example, for £10 you get a two course Sunday roast which is utterly amazing (and huge!) which consists of Welsh black beef (they offer a veggie option too), colcannon, roast potatoes, stuffing, a selection of vegetables and a delightful little gravy boat all of your own. This filling feast is followed by your choice of hot dessert ranging from rice pudding to apple crumble, chocolate brownie through to jam roly poly and more. The food is traditional, delicious, piping hot and accompanied with friendly service. As well as the Sunday roast, they offer a broad menu, specials board and also have live music and other entertainment on throughout the week. Recently, they've also started serving good quality coffees and specialty teas, which just adds to the experience. As a dog owner, how a 'dog friendly pub' behaves towards my four legged friend also makes a difference. The Last Inn always bring a bowl of water over for Finn, and make a fuss of him, so they get my vote! Last Sunday's visit certainly won't be my last and if you're up that way, it's well worth a look!

Seemed that way to me for the most part. We came here more than once on this trip. It is a pretty interesting thing that they have going on here. Ok, maybe not super interesting, but interesting nonetheless. You can actually drink across the street from the pub. On any given summer night there could be 20-30 people sitting/standing along the fence across the street with plastic cups of beer or whatever. I imagine most of these folks are locals. We hung out out there one night and for the most part they seemed like locals. We were here on a Sunday night as well as a weekday night. Sunday night had live music. The other night had an open mic night. On the Sunday night we ended up eating dinner. We were able to procure a table outside which was quite lovely. I ended up having a nice steak that was cooked medium rare (it was one of the only times on this trip that I was asked how I wanted my meat prepared). It was a nice piece of meat and I would definitely order it again should I ever come back. I know I will be back in Barmouth again. If I had a choice of pubs to frequent in Barmouth, the Last Inn would be that choice.

The chicken burger I had was pretty tasty, succulent chicken in a rich herby coating but alas the bun was a little on the soft side though and fell apart pretty easily. That herby coating was a little cloying after a while though so I struggled to finish it, thankfully the fries were very tasty! Pretty reasonable price wise, and the decor was modern but a showing it's age with some wear and tear evident.

I do however well remember the good ol' days of the Fat Cat when you'd have to fight your way in, fight your way to the bar, fight your way to the toilets etc. Not much has changed internally, it still has the same layout and same style, but having recently visited at 10pm on a Saturday night it's obvious that one thing has changed the number of customers. Not only did we not have to fight our way in we pretty much had the run of the place and not only did we find somewhere to sit (something practically unheard of in the old days) we had a wide choice of seats to select from. This may be partly due to the fact that the bar doesn't target the usual Saturday night drinking crowd. There's no cheap lager, only more expensive brands served up in fancy glasses. Some of the small band of customers present were buying cocktails which were served up with dry ice capsules that made the drinks smoke, something that looks impressive but probably doesn't add to the flavour! As well as drinks they also serve food but no-one seemed to be eating that late at night so we had no chance to sneak a peek at other people's grub. All in all it's a nice and reasonably upmarket place (the toilets need a revamp and hopefully refurbishment will be on the new owners to-do list) but you wonder if the demand is still there for a place like this in Llandudno, especially considering not only that the Fat Cat closed because the owners went bust but also that a rival bar & grill is set to open a few doors away.

I had only been here once before when it was Hex and that was some years ago. As I was taking photos for the band, me and a friend were on the guest list. The lady at the box office greeted us warmly, confirmed we were OK to go in free, advised the bouncers of this, who also welcomed us and we went inside. The club is quite dark inside, but this is normal for a rock club. The bar was quite small but the staff were very friendly and advised us that a double Jager Bomb was only £2.95, which is excellent value. Each time we went back to the bar the staff remembered what we were drinking and served us promptly. For a while we sat on the sturdy chairs and tables near the bar before moving to a booth near the stage. There were also booths near the bar but these were occupied. The stage in Revolver is of a decent size. It is raised up which gives you an excellent view of the band. The booths at the side are an excellent place to sit and look across at the bands, and in my case an excellent place to take photos. The sound was very good, the sound engineers had the levels spot on throughout the gig. There is a large outdoor area at revolver which is essential a big marquee that is filled with picnic tables and also has a dance floor on the stage at the far end. There is music playing in there and it's an excellent place to get some air and relax. The other side of the club looks a bit like a pub, with comfy seating and pool tables. It's a great place to chill out and chat with friends. The toilets are pretty cramped and quite dark, but they seemed to be clean and well stocked with loo roll. I really enjoyed my night at Revolver. I usually go to a much bigger rock club in the city centre, but there were definitely some features of revolver which stood out for me and I wish the club I go to had these features, such as the outdoor area.
