Large Bathroom with big walk-in shower

Great location! Walking distance to a lot of restaurants, bars and shops. Spacious, modern rooms. The bed was very comfortable. Quiet at night - we didn't hear our neighbors and heard no noise above or below us. We would definitely stay here again. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because of the parking situation. They have secure underground parking which I paid $18 for. We left around 10pm to go get a few things at the store. We were gone maybe 20 mins. When we got back there were no parking spots left, so even though I paid $18 for parking, I had to park my car on the street overnight.

This is a nice hotel. It's not perfect, but it's modern & clean and the staff is incredibly friendly. We were here for the USA Gymnastics Nationals & it's very close to the convention center if that's your destination. What's good: FREE COVERED PARKING. Yes, you read that right. Location. Right in the middle of town, close to everything. Price. We paid under $200 a night. It's not CHEAP, but not bad for a Marriott brand in a nice city that offers most amenities. Granted, our view was terrible, but I wasn't in Des Moines for the view. That said, it's actually a pretty city, so I wouldn't have minded a view. The decor is really pretty. I love the clean, modern aesthetic. Beds are comfortable, and the showers are nice if you like rain showers. Not a bad restaurant at the Republic. It's mostly bar food, but they had a good Greek salad that was tasty and healthy as well as many other yummy-sounding things. Friendly people. I like that in people. What they need to work on: The Mobile App. The mobile app is really cool. You can request a mobile key and more towels, pillows, etc. the problem is that the staff don't seem to have adapted to the mobile app. I didn't get my mobile key until the next day, and when I got it, it didn't work. Also, I requested extra pillows on the app & they never arrived. If you call the front desk for anything, though, they're there in a hot second with whatever you need. Lighting in the bathroom. There is a lot of light, but the light in the bathroom is terrible for anyone, like ME, who likes to do her makeup in the bathroom. It just doesn't work. I'd definitely stay here again if I ended up in Des Moines again.

The AC is a super sleek and ultra modern hotel downtown! The staff here is very friendly and accomodating. The toilet is flat and square-shaped so you've been warned about that. It works just fine but it may throw you off the first time you see it. The shower is very nice with two different shower heads. The underground, heated garage is a very nice perk on a cold day especially. The breakfast here is interesting and more like a European buffet. It's not included but costs around $14 which isn't too bad. You won't find any bacon here folks, so don't be alarmed when you don't see it. However, there is prosciutto. The Republic on the roof is definitely a cool spot for a drink, and yes it is heated. The rooms here are not cheap, but this is a really nice hotel to experience, even for a staycation!

I've been here at the Des Moines downtown Hilton hotel and am appalled at how terrible of a job…read moretheir housekeeping did on our room after our first day. They did a terrible job with our beds- it looks like a kid did it or whoever did it just did a rush job and it's obvious they didn't try at all. The bathroom clearly wasn't touched at all. The sink still had a used hand towel and the surface wasn't wiped down, the trash wasn't changed, and all they did was swap out the floor bath towel. Our toilet still had marks from usage and they didn't clean it. Then the trash can in the living area was also not changed even though it was full, and our coffee supplies were not restocked. I tried to use the phones in the room to call room service and they didn't even work. So I had to call the front desk with my cell, and I was pissed- still am. Whoever did the housekeeping job for our room was awful. I'm not that harsh or picky with hotels but for Hilton, I expected much better service. We are Honors members as well. This is highly disappointing. The front desk sent an employee to restock our coffee bar and give us new towels, she didn't even apologize to me once. She asked me what trash needed to be changed, and then she put the bathroom trash can onto the bathroom sink to change it... and didn't wipe the sink down after. Then she left. Said nothing else, didn't ask if we needed anything. Made zero comments about anything. I wouldn't recommend staying here if their housekeeping service says anything about this specific Hilton. I barely complain about hotel service and am usually pretty understanding having worked in customer service myself, but this was absolutely not okay. They also promised us a room on the 8th floor and then changed us to the 4th floor hours into our check in day, and whoever was above our room was moving around/talking super loudly from 12am-6am, with spouts of coughing and puking. Not a huge deal for the noise since you can't control people, but now I'm pissed about housekeeping and want to rant about more. The plugs are also loose by the bedside tables/lamps, so your phone may not charge without you realizing until later. Overall- the housekeeping job, their service, as well as the attitude of the employee that came to the room after I complained to the front desk makes me wonder just how clean the hotel room really is. It's unprofessional and SO lazy. I do not recommend Hilton Des Moines Downtown. Edit: Next day after- I asked the front desk for the GM's card and talked to the front desk again about the housekeeping from yesterday. They apologized and I showed pictures and told them how the phones were also not working. Just got back to our room after having been gone all day, and when we left, they had people cleaning rooms in our hall at like 11am. It is 5pm now and they still haven't cleaned our room today. My brother saw one of the cleaners and he was just sitting in one of the other rooms on his phone not doing anything. I hate this hotel. Terrible service, unprofessional, and extremely lazy workers. I highly recommend going elsewhere like the Marriott. I expected much better from Hilton, especially being an Honors member. The walls are also very thin. While both times we visited showed two different slew of emotions, the consistent variable was the stay at the Surety. This hotel is beyond accommodating and gives a very cool vibe of old and new and is beyond successful at it. There were several of us that stayed here recently and the staff and management couldn't have been more accommodating. We had lunch one day at the restaurant and the server was accommodating as service was ending at 2p (our order was placed around 1:58p for about 6-8 of us). Later we were told by one of the GM's (Tim?) that would change as they look to remove the time constraints. Going back to (Tim - sorry if that was not your name), he came by later in the night to check on us, was courteous and offered us a free round, which some of us took him up on his offer. First, the refrigerator in our room did not work. Even worse, there were ants throughout the room. This is completely unacceptable for a Hilton property. We reported both issues to the front desk, but were told there was nothing they could do. We then contacted Hilton corporate, only to be told they couldn't help either. To make matters worse, there wasn't a manager available at the hotel, and no manager was available through the corporate customer service line either. It was incredibly frustrating to have no one with the authority to address or resolve these issues. What made this experience even more disappointing was the complete lack of urgency, accountability, and customer service. After a 14 hour drive, the last thing any family should have to do is stay up all night trying to resolve problems that should have been handled immediately. When you stay at a Hilton, you expect a clean, functional room and customer service that stands behind the brand. Unfortunately, we received neither. Based on our experience, I cannot recommend this hotel. I hope management takes these concerns seriously and makes the necessary improvements so future guests don't have to endure the same experience.

If you're wondering, I he Civic Center is a 3 minute walk away, and the Farmers Market is within walking distance, too. We checked in a little before 4pm with no problem. Check-in is normally at 4, but I requested an earlier arrival through the Marriott Bonvoy app. The lovely and stylish employee (Miya?) who checked us in gave us a quick run down on where things were located on the main floor and then we headed to elevator and to our room on the 7th floor. Upon entering the room it felt a little humid. Noticing the thermostat was on 72, I just turned it down a little. We weren't in the room long enough to notice any issues. Those came when we were going to bed. The room was cute and the perfect size for two people. I love the bedding and pillows and the lamps on the nightstands. There was a mini fridge, Keurig and overall I liked the decor. The nightstands were a little tired. The bathroom was the size of a closet - tiny. Our sink took at least 5 minutes to drain every time we used it. I didn't like how the light switch for the bathroom was on the outside of the bathroom. We moved the toilet paper to a more accessible spot. By the time we went to bed our room was warm and we couldn't turn down the thermostat below 65. Other reviews stated that the west side of the hotel has ongoing and known a/c issues and that was the side we were on. While the view was great (we could see the Civic Center and giant see saw art installation from our window), we slept horribly. I started to resent having paid $220 for a sweaty night sleep. In addition to the hot room, we could hear our neighbor cough, talk, etc. at different points. The walls are super thin. It could have been worse, for sure. We turned on our white noise machine. The 7th floor hallway did have some popcorn on the floor on Friday night. By the time we left on Saturday it was still there. Kind of surprised me given that housekeeping had to have seen it. I requested a 12pm check-out (also through the Marriott Bonvoy app), and at about 11:30am housekeeping came to the room, knocked, and let themselves in. He quickly apologized and said he hadn't gotten the message about our late check-out. No biggie, but it might have been awkward for others. Check-out is 11am, but the signage on the interior door of the bathroom says 12pm. See photo. I'm still giving The Savery 4/5 stars because I had a nice time and love vibe and history of the hotel. All staff we encountered were very friendly. Next time though, I'd request a room on the other side of the hotel, especially during the summer months when you want to run the a/c. Also, there is a parking garage across the street for $1/hour. We opted for the parking garage and somehow got out for free on Saturday without having to redeem our ticket. Not sure if the ramps are free on Saturdays, but they were this day. The hotel offers valet parking for $35. I recommend The Savery because of the location, overall vibe, amenities (they have a restaurant/bar for dinner, separate restaurant for breakfast, and offer Starbucks drinks in the mornings all for additional $$). This is not the cheapest hotel option, but we couldn't beat the convenience from the Civic Center. It's fairly close to the Iowa Event Center, too. Recommend. Just request a room that's on the east side of the building if you're staying during the summer and bring your white noise machine or earplugs.
