Very nice hotel, clean and modern, but I can not say that I enjoyed the stay. We had to shut off the refrigerator because it was too loud, but that was just the start. We should have known we were in trouble when they gave us a room by the elevators. There were several events in town the next day, and we had kids running up and down the halls most of the night, and the doors were so loud that I swear we could hear each one slam on the entire floor. Finally fell asleep at 1:15 but the noise began at 4:00. Not a very relaxing stay. read more

Did not feel safe or comfortable staying here during COVID. One, mask policy was not enforced. There was always guests not wearing masks in the hotel and employees rushing to fix their masks when they see us walking down the hallway. Two, the sister of the groom (there with her whole family) has her car broken into at the hotel parking garage. Her belongings were strewn all over the garage and in several floors of the hotel. They were gifts to the wedding party so gifts stolen were: the baby's bow tie, her husbands matching tie, the children's matching wedding photo ties. Clearly by hotel guests as they had access to the hotel. They left torn gift boxes and ribbons all over the hotel hallway on several floors. So upsetting. The manager just said they would refund one night of the parking and that the garage doesn't belong to them. Did not try to investigate who in the hotel did this. By the way, the hotel will charge you $15 a night to park there but do not want to have any responsibility if something goes wrong. Not even checking the cameras. After hearing this we decided to park on the street. No issues. Three, our room with the blackout curtains were broken and we were right across from a super bright garage and storefronts with bright lights. After messing around with the curtains a bit we were able to get it mostly closed for the night. A true shame that they were the hotel of choice by the wedding and they did not make us feel safe by any established health and public safety standards. I will not stay at an IHG/Intercontinental hotel again. read more

Terrific! Awesome and a very Surprising experience here at the Staybridge hotel. Upon arrival there are metered parking spots right in front of hotel entrance and you do need to grab your own cart from inside doors and load your own stuff. Check in was quick and easy and staff was very friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating. We got a first floor room which was perfect no waiting for an elevator. Room was clean , smelled great and had no issues whatsoever. The huge kitchen area with built in table and bar height chairs were definitely a plus. Sink, dishwasher, pots pans utensils even dishwashing liquid and a full size fridge and freezer with ice machine was a definite plus!! Pool and hot tub were accessible from 7am until 11pm and they also have free laundry facilities, even provided laundry baskets in your room closet, you just have to use your own soap and dryer sheets. Didn't get to use the fitness center but it was a very nice area as well. My king sized bed was comfy and the extra pillows were a nice touch. They even provided a box fan for my room because I sleep better with the white noise. Loved the room darkening blinds that were floor to ceiling and felt bigger than normal hotel rooms. Very peaceful and quiet night. Got a very good rest. Now on to the breakfast they provided. Wow!! Hot and cold items, fruits granola and yogurt bar, waffle station full size sausage patties, home fried potatoes, scrambled eggs, bagels, muffins, bread for toast, beverage area with delicious coffee teas and even soy and almond milk. Very good spacing of tables in the dining room without feeling squeezed in. Love the colors and the way it made you feel very homey. Great place for families and travelers. Room was clean and surprisingly quiet, given we were on the first floor facing the street. The garbage disposal didn't work. The batteries had been removed from both remotes (cute trick). We put new batteries in one and the LR TV said a cable was disconnected and wouldn't work. Maybe they stole the cable too. Pool was the size of our kitchen table, but it was there. Hot tub was closed. When I checked in, I walked up to a sign at the front counter saying they'd stepped away. After waiting 5-10 minutes, I called the main desk number. And got instantly disconnected. And repeat. And repeat again. JC, if you could just not HANG UP ON ME, that'd be great. Also, apparently anyone can walk right in and do whatever late at night because THEY NO CARE. Employee shows up. "YES??" Hospitality is dead. Happy holidays! read more

5 star stay, service, and room. I had the chance to stay here for a work function, so I can't comment on price or the reservation process since it was made for me. Parking was also paid for. As a note, the employer paid for the parking lot across the street, but as it was full, the Embassy Hotel upgraded my parking to the underground lot for no extra charge. That was nice. The room itself was really nice. No Keurig (which I found odd for a hotel of this caliber considering how many "budget" hotels have upgraded to them), but it did have an ice bucket and coffee items. It was a "two room" layout with a door separating the bedroom from the living room. The living room had a couch, flat-screen TV, and a table with four chairs. The bedroom also had a desk, flat screen TV, and bed. (Note: Bed was SUPER FLUFFY and awesome. Loved the bed) Bathroom had half a roll of toilet paper with an extra roll as well as a hair dryer. The water pressure in the sink faucet was a bit under what I'd like, but it worked fine. The shower had one of those "glass panel" walls with no way to close the shower. Very little water made it outside the shower. Water in the sink and shower were adaquetely hot though I would have loved a bit more. Room temperature was easy to control and pretty accurate. One side of the room overlooked the river while the opposing side of the room that had windows (with curtains that could close) that looked into the hotel. The hotel has 8 floors, and it has a design that means all rooms are situated around a giant empty area that looks down into the lobby. So if you're afraid of heights, do be aware of this. The hotel offers free breakfast as well as a free "happy hour" (which was two hours) with alcohol. The happy hour coincided with the hours of the work event, so the line for the free alcohol took at least a half an hour. It got better towards when the work party was focused on dinner instead of socializing. They offered a wide variety of drinks including mixed drinks, bottled beers, and others. They did not have any sort of sodas or non-alcoholic drinks (for those that don't drink). The staff for the hotel was pretty prompt and attentive. They were great about checking us in, and when I needed a safety pin for my dress, they had one available as well. Front desk was extremely friendly. Bar staff was friendly enough - but I must admit they were probably feeling pretty overworked, so I don't hold it against them. I had the chance to use the fitness center. They have three treadmills and an elliptical - all equipped with televisions. There's a weight bench, free weights, a Bosu trainer ball, and a weighted gym. There are yoga mats as well and enough space to do your own yoga routine. They also offer complimentary bottles of water in the gym as well as towels. I had the chance to use it when it was empty, but it isn't the largest room, so as a business hotel, I could imagine this starts to feel a bit crowded during the mornings. The elliptical worked amazingly and was very feature-filled. Breakfast in the morning was very thorough. I can't eat a lot of it, but they offered a lot of options. They were making omelettes to order, had cereal with milk, hot cocoa, coffee options, packaged yogurts, cream cheese treats, waffles, fruits, and other things. For being free-of-charge, it was very thorough and fresh and offered lots of options. Lots of seating too - even for busy, "hotel sold out" mornings like I was there. I did not use the internet nor the hotel pool during my stay. The hotel pool did look a bit small, but it'd get the job done for a workout swim. Other notes: -Hilton Rewards Silver status will get you two free bottles of water. Otherwise water is $4 a bottle if you drink the bottled water in the room (it's clearly labeled). -Hotel is a 2/3 block walk down to the bar district of downtown Des Moines. -Housekeeping came by at 9 and knocked on the door causing us to scramble to wake up and get dressed to answer the door. Once I answered it they said "sorry, we'll come back later". This has happened to my partner before when he has stayed in other Embassy hotels. Considering that check-out time is noon, I have absolutely no idea why they were bothering us at 9. This was possibly the biggest annoyance of my entire stay. Final Thoughts: It's definitely a nice place to stay. The room was very clean, and the facilities were nice. It felt very professional and clean, and I feel like some of their offerings (free drinks, free breakfast) went above and beyond. I'd stay here again. read more

Big shoutout to the front desk staff at StayBridge Suites - Des Moines! My friends and I stayed here for a concert at Wells Fargo and I utilized street parking(meters). I realized my meter would run out while I was at the concert and there is no way to add time via an app as we have in CR. I discussed my issue with the staff and they offered to put money in the meter for me... so THANK-YOU! As for the hotel deets it is walking distance to the arena and many awesome restaurants. Onsite parking is available for $15 a day or meter parking on the streets (9am-9pm). Our room was clean and spacious, staff was friendly, and they offered a good continental breakfast in the morning (yogurt parfait bar, oatmeal bar, waffles, eggs, sausage, etc). I will definitely keep this place in mind for future ventures to Des Moines read more

The very helpful front desk attendant, William, helped me with a reservation issue that was a result of one of those scam third party sites that pretends to be the hotel when you book. It was after 1am and I was very upset but he was patient and fixed it as well as I could hope. The room was clean and comfortable. I would definitely stay again. Location was great. I didn't love how they didn't have a place to park out front and check in. I had a sprained ankle and I could have used some help. We stayed in a king suite and had a pull out couch the mattress did suck but also there was a period stain on it. Disgusting! When I called the front desk to let them know they brought us another layer of sheets. Our room wasn't clean we found gold confetti under the night stands and someone else's prescription glasses under the pull out couch. They didn't clean our room on night one we had to ask for more towels and I laid the old ones in the hall no one picked them up. I wouldn't recommend it. read more

We booked the Embassy Suites for the space and great breakfast for our family of 6. We were pleasantly surprised to find out that they upgraded us to a family suite! I was looking forward to seeing what a family suite had to offer. It was great. The floor plan included 2 bedrooms, 1 king and in the other room 2 queens, a living room and a 1 bathroom. A great amount of space for a family with 4 teens. The king bed had 5 pillows, so I made a pillow cocoon, snuggled in and had a great nights sleep. The breakfast was delicious including a made-to-order omelet bar, pancakes, fruit, yogurt, oatmeal, cereal... Something for everyone. The kids were disappointed that there wasn't a hot tub, but there is a pool. Glad we found a hotel that fit our needs. read more

Location, Location, Location! This is a perfect spot for friends and family to stay while visiting Des Moines! The hotel over looks the Des Moines River and downtown Des Moines! Located in the East Village you are walking distance to great eats, good drinking holes and you can walk up to the capital which is only a few blocks away! My parents have stayed here numerous times while visiting and the rooms are spacious and well kept! The bar has a nice happy hour with a free drink for the guest! Naturally living a few blocks away we joined my parents for this! We have walked over on a nice day grabbed a brew from the bar and sat on the beautiful patio that they have! Since our Apartment has no patio, we have to use others to get our outdoor drinking in the sun fix sometimes! The drinks are a bit pricey in the bar, but standard for a hotel bar! Again decently prized, amazing location, and good staff! This is a good choice if you are coming to Des Moines! read more

The rooms here were filthy. 720s ceiling vent is falling out of the ceiling. Every top surface is dusty including the mirrora, wall art, even elevator in the main lobby is racked with dust above the panel holding the buttons. Corners of the room where the floor board meets the carpet is seemingly coated with filth. Peering into the vents including the bathroom above the toilet is any persons nightmare with asthma. Water ponds in the hotel are equally coated with filth and are brown and green. Unpleasant sight when going down on the elevators. I don't get it...... Gross. Never ever stayed at an ES until I found a good deal in Des Moines and found myself being very surprised. This property is in the heart of downtown Des Moines and is accessible to all points within the dowtown area. ES is catered to the business community, but it works well for individuals and families as well. This particular property was large and luxurious for my blood and it was decently cheap at $109 when I booked it. I was here for couple days to run the 2011 Des Moines Marathon. It was the first time ever in Iowa for me. They were in renovation when I stayed there. The suites were somewhat lavish and the bathroom was larger than the more budget friendly hotel brands. Still, this was a cool hotel brand to stay in. The hotel shuttle to the airport was awesome too. I think they will pick you up if you called them. The bed itself was quite comfortable, and having a giant LG screen to keep you company at night was a nice touch too. Also loved the happy hour where I got 3 beers before they told me no, I had enough. ha. The breakfast was decent, but loved the made-to-order omlette station. Staff was friendly. I would stay again, if I had business in Des Moines in the future. The property itself was pretty awesome, when you step into the property. Immaculate and amazing is what I thought this property is like The luxury that Embassy Suites portrays is pretty good and I would definitely consider staying in an another ES property on my travels in the future, while considering the $$ price as well. My room was a great suite and I felt like I was in bliss. Very rarely if at all, I were to be staying in a suite, but as luck would have it, I got lucky. Much like a small little apartment in lavish surroundings, I must say that ES gives a good value for the money for comfort and the ambiance. We normally stay at the Hampton inn across the river. Omg. What a difference. First the price was reasonable. The room was comfortable and spacouis. Has a huge walk in shower. Plenty of drawers and closet space. Nice sofa and large tv, full kitchen! Stocked with utensils, plates etc. You get breakfast which was actually good. 3 nights a week they have a small meal they serve. Free beer, wine and soft drinks! We had brats, hamburgers, chicken fajitas and flat bread with different toppings..that is to name a few items on their weekly menu. I have never stayed at a hotel that offers free laundry either. All you have to pay for is the laundry detergent! This hotel is close to downtown which is great! We will be staying again. read more

I checked in here after I moved out of my apartment in Des Moines. Parking is $15 underground but $6-8 at the lot across the hotel. I had my car packed with luggage and things and didn't want to risk getting robbed. Well, the front lobby is gorgeous with the fountain from the top floor all the way to the lobby level. I was immediately greeted and given 2 bottles of water and a snack. Nice touch:) I did get moved from a handicapped room to a regular king room with river view. The hotel was completely sold out so this was nice. EVENING HAPPY HOUR ** Complimentary drinks and snacks after 5PM. I didn't know and sat in the restaurant for dinner. I had the grilled salmon salad and a beer. Afterwards, I tried the sangria at the open bar. Not exactly the best but glad to at least try it. Food was generous and also full salad and not heavy on dressing. FITNESS CENTER AND POOL *** Nobody was in the pool early before dinner so I got to do some laps and dip in the hot tub. I tried the fitness center the next day and no luck with the earplugs. I turned up the TV in the room to watch the news. BREAKFAST BUFFET **** The buffet here was the best I had at any Embassy Suites. The omelet bar was huge with 6+ stove tops so that everyone got their omelet within 5 minutes. Last place in Minneapolis, there were only 3 so it took a while. Also, the chef also could do chocolate chip pancakes in the center grill so try out one which was amazing. Fruit selection was a little sparse with only pineapple and watermelon. Would have liked some honeydew and cantalope. Coffee was superb and also great machine to make whatever you like- cafe latte, cafe mocha, etc. KING ROOM **** A bit noisy in the living room when you entered since it faces the inside of hotel atrium. However, if you move into the bedroom facing the river, then it is peaceful. Alot of space inside to spread out your things. The bathroom only has a shower and no sliding door so get the towel rug ready. Only 1 panel glass near the shower head so you can see yourself in the mirror while you shower. Depending on how comfortable you feel seeing yourself naked this could be a good or bad thing. 2 TVs- one in living room and one in bedroom. Fridge is larger size so made it nice. Also, there is a microwave to heat up your food just in case. read more

The single star is for the nice interior design. The rest was bad enough that I will never be back. Beds are in poor condition. The seem quite old and springy. Terrible on my back the room was missing items like the ice bucket and TV remote. The TV didn't work but much worse was the fact the thermostat did not work. The rooms are dated. Eddie,the desk clerk seemed rushed even though I was the only one in line and quite rude, arrogant and a bit pompous. I will not be back. I have raised my rating from a one star to a three since my room was clean and quiet. But the staff rating remains very low. I walked around the central lobby taking photos when I was "apprehended" by hotel security because I was taking photos, he seemed to think I was up to something sinister. I will still probably avoid the hotel due to my experience with staff. read more

I have been travelling to Des Moines for almost 1 year and a half on a bi-weekly basis. This is my go to hotel after a few short stays at the Hilton Garden Inn in West Des Moines (also a nice place). The reason I moved to this property is primarily it's walking proximity to various restaurants, bars, walking/running trails. Just all around more stuff to get to close by without driving. The hotel also offers an excellent shuttle service (to 10PM) within 2 miles of the hotel. The staff here have constantly bent over backwards to take care of me and to show me continued appreciation of my business. Some of them I feel like friends that I could hang out with if there was any opportunity to do that. I definitely have to say the front desk staff specifically Jessica and Cameron pretty much know exactly what I want and when. Every week I don't even have to ask they already have it taken care of (LOVE THAT)!!! From a general perspective here are some key highlights of this property: - On the River (Great Views) - Quiet (No train noise/road noise) - Great bar/restaurant/room service - Excellent Staff all the way around - Morning Breakfast is fantastic and has lots of options - Parking across the street (for a fee) - Parking in basement (also for a fee) - Shuttle service - Indoor Pool/Spa/Gym All in all this is one of my favorite properties and even when they have large groups in town (frequently) their service levels don't change to other guests. This is a primary reason that I keep coming back here and I'm a Diamond member of the Hilton Honors program. read more

We were in town for a wedding which the reception was held at the hotel. We arrived and there was huge convention being held at the hotel. There was no where to park in the surface self parking lot. Thankfully the meters are free post 6pm on Friday. However, if that was not the case we would been forced to do valet. Overall the check in process was efficient. They had one elevator down and the convention had let out for the day. It was a bit of a wait to get to the room. As we were only one of 20 rooms not associated withe the convention they gave us paper coupons to use in the restaurant/bar for the managers reception. The food was chips and salsa for the reception. Wine, beer on draft and wells drinks. Room was extremely clean and modern. Bed were comfortable. Shower had plenty of hot water and pressure. I love the lamps with power outlets in them so you don't have to rearrange furniture to plug in your cell phone. Coffee maker and a small assortment of teas in the room. Breakfast was wonderful in the morning. Wide selection. Even a bar for omelet making. At the bar they also make pancakes and French toast. The chef was making Mickey Mouse pancakes for the kids. Check out was as pain less as check in. They do need to get that extra elevator fixed quickly. That was the worst part of our stay; waiting for the elevator. We wouldn't mind taking the stairs but they dump you outside on floor 1. Understand they are for fires but as the elevators were such a mess would have been better to take stairs to lobby. The wedding reception in the hotel was ok. The staff appeared a bit confused about who was eating what. They brought out all the pork dishes and then there was a five minute wait for the chicken and veggie options. It is Des Moise so I don't expect service to be a strength but it was a bit too unorganized. Again the service in the restaurant/bar was also hit or miss. First night we sat there for 10 minutes until my husband walked up to a lady and asked what do we need to do to get service? On another night the bartender was spot on. Our drinks were barely finished when she asked if we wanted another one. On another night the bartender didn't know what or how to make an Old Fashion. I think service would be this hotels weakness. Overall a nice location and clean hotel. Hit or miss service and if full slow elevators. Felt price was a bit high for Des Moise. read more

Free breakfast + free alcohol in the evenings? Awesome. Would I choose to pay $200+ to stay there? Probably not. The rooms are large and very well laid-out, with separate bedrooms and living room areas. The rooms also include a fridge and microwave. I stayed here for a week while being relocated for my fiancé's career. I really enjoyed staying at this hotel, it has some nice shops and restaurants within walking distance, and the hotel has a great atmosphere. I had my 2 little dogs with me, and even though the hotel is not necessarily dog friendly, they were very accommodating to the dogs and made an exception to allow us to have them there. Of course they are very well behaved and potty trained...I would never bring a dog not potty trained into a hotel that nice! My gripes: -the hot tub/pool have WAY too much chlorine. Like, it burns your eyes just walking in to the pool area. Awful. -The appetizers they offer during the "happy hour" are strange...chips and assorted dips (every day), but the chips dont always match the dips. Like Doritos, oyster crackers, hummus and salsa. -The internet is $10 PER COMPUTER, per day. That is ridiculous! It's Des Moines, for crying out loud. If someone is paying over $200 for a room, they should have internet included. I'd take free internet over the free booze every night. -Parking is between $8-$15 per car per day. Again, it's Des Moines. I can understand charging that much for parking in Chicago or Minneapolis, but it's Iowa. Guests of the hotel should get at least 1 car parked for free during their stay. read more

Just another Embassy, although it is nice that they are all suites, great for families, including free breakfast and free happy hour until 7pm. But not so great for business travelers...kids have a tendency to run around and be a little rambunctious. They have a really nice big ball room and their staff are pretty friendly...then again, most folks in IA are pretty friendly. The restaurant and bar is less than desirable. They are very small and completely under staff. The bar is located part of the restaurant and smoking in the bar is permitted which is really no difference. read more

Iowa State Fair and it still did not feel overwhelming. That takes a lot of work. Staff was nothing but nice, concierge always helpful and correct! Yay. Suites are like mini-apartments complete with living room amenities and mini-kitchen. Three sinks in a room with 3 girls=no upset ladies putting on their faces and hair in the morning! Yay. Upscale finishes and TV's but I was a little underwhelmed with the beds. The housekeeping could have been better, was there for 5 days and had to ASK the room to be cleaned and the bedding changed and I am still not even sure any of that happened outside of the changing of towels and vacuuming of the floor. Since we were at the fair all day we tracked in a fair amount of dirt onto the tile and it would have been nice to not step in in again after I stepped out of the shower... Waterfall is cool and a sound barrier, it is also relaxing. The patio has cushy outdoor furniture and faces the river. One day I got back early and was having a cocktail by myself perfectly content when I was pulled into a raucous conversation with some people from Ohio who said I couldn't drink alone. Very nice hotel. The staff is nice with the exception of one very angry valet/shuttle driver who honked his horn at me repeatedly and told me to move my car "HEY GIRL!!" But didn't tell me where I could move it so it could be parked by the valet. Luckily, I didn't have to deal with him personally or that would not have gone well. Happy hour was nice, you have to wear a green wristband to get drinks or food. They no longer do tickets for drinks. East village is a quick walk away, Court avenue is is about 5 blocks away and easy to access. Breakfast is pretty good as well. I'll definitely be returning but hopefully the gentleman valet will be nicer. Also, the rooms are very dry. Made sleeping a bit uncomfortable. read more

I'm rating this a 4, even though it is really a 3.5. It certainly isn't without its faults. Standard Embassy fare. Free 2 hour happy hour, free breakfast, free cookies in the afternoon. The rooms are clean, and the service is friendly. The restaurant/room service is pretty average. Everything sounds delicious, and ends up tasting somewhat bland. There are some nice views from this hotel, either of the river, or of the capital building. My last stay here, there was something above the room that would turn on and off at all hours of the day. I don't know what it was, but it was slightly annoying. On this same stay the hotel became overrun by high school kids in town for the state wrestling tournament. I'm happy to report other than hooligans running around in the hallways and packed elevators, the room proved to be rather quiet, even though there were cheerleaders in the rooms on either side of me. Also, the surface lot was packed, so I went to the front desk and they upgraded me to the underground garage for free. I've stayed here a total of 10 nights now, and when I am back in Des Moines, I see no reason to stay anywhere else. read more

My best friend and I had girls night out in downtown DSM and crashed here. I like the location for the closeness to many restaurants and bars...a little bit of a walk to the East Village. The rooms are smaller, breakfast is cook to order and free, happy hour drinks are decent..food is a joke during happy hour...go to the Continental instead. Overall I would stay here again just for the convenience! read more

First they nickel and dime you with the valet only parking for $35 a day and then the $13 a day for Internet!?! This is the worst Embassy Suites I have ever stayed at!!! I highly recommend staying at another hotel while in Des Moines!! I love Embassy suites every where else in the world, just not here!! They also trick people buy placing water in the rooms then charging you $4.00 for each!! I did not want anything in my room that requires an extra charge. Do yourself a favor and stay elsewhere!! read more

I would give it three and a half stars if I could. I have always enjoyed staying in Embassy Suites hotels so decided to splurge a bit on my college reunion trip to Des Moines and stay here. Unfortunately this experience was not quite up to par with other Embassy Suites I have stayed in. (Including this one, several years ago.) The Pros: -Every staff member we encountered was very friendly and helpful. -The evening happy hour and morning included breakfast were both wonderful -The room was spacious and very clean -The location was perfect- walking distance to downtown things we wanted to do. The Cons: -The housekeeping service never came to clean our room. We were there for two nights. There was no information about having to request to get your room cleaned, and we never put our "do not disturb" sign on our door. We left for the day in the morning, came back mid afternoon and it hadn't been cleaned. We thought maybe they just didn't get to us yet. Came back late and night, and it still hadn't been touched. I would expect at least the beds to be made, even at much less expensive hotels than this... -The sliding door between the two rooms of the suite was bolted open. This kind of defeats the purpose of having two rooms... I like staying here because I often have trouble sleeping, and usually I can go read/watch TV in the other room without disturbing my sleeping friends... I don't know if this was because we were given an "acesssible room" (which we didn't need), but the door didn't close. I couldn't even turn on a light without disturbing the bedroom. The shower was also extremely short, hitting me (a 5x7" woman) in the shoulder. -The hot tub was out of order. I gave this place a 3 stars only because the staff was exceptionally polite and on top of everything! Additionally our room & pool were very clean and the morning buffet was very good. However - to be charged for access to the web $9.95 per day and .80 per local call is a complete and laughable joke based on the cost of a room. I would stay again but I think the excessive charges were a bit much. read more

Never again. Have stayed here a few times. My recent visit will be my last. Why? The place started out nice but has rapidly become shopworn. The "light touch" housekeeping translated into "no touch" on some days. And the front desk staff, while upon my check-in promising to give a key to my nephew who was flying in at midnight, instead locked him out of the hotel, forcing him to call me on my cell phone and come rescue him from the street. When I asked what happened, there was no explanation, and the "night auditor," or whatever she is, became surly. And the place was expensive, especially considering what you get. So...no. One of the best hotels we have stayed in. The hotel is clean, modern and updated. Free breakfast was awesome. The location of the hotel in the city is perfect. The staff was very courteous and helpful. I was very impressed with our room. It had a small, modern kitchen with a large fridge. All amenities in the room worked. read more

Your standard Embassy Suites with a lovely view of downtown Des Moines. I really enjoy hitting up an Embassy Suites when I can afford to. My husband and I were traveling from KC to MN with our two month old baby and we stopped in Des Moines on the way up and the way back in order to break up the drive. The two room suite set-up was perfect for having a fussy little guy who wakes up at night. The free drinks (5:30-7:30pm) were fantastic. I loved that they had a local Des Moines beer on tap. I also loved the heck out of breakfast. Made to order pancakes (optional chocolate chips), made to order omelets, oatmeal bar, etc... It was fantastic. Next time, I will have to try the swimming pool. We were also on the 8th floor for our return trip and that floor had free vending machines for guests on that level. We're talking free chips, candy, soda and bottled water. It was crazy! Our view on one visit was a stunning one of the river and our view on the other visit was a lovely view of the capital building. I will definitely return to this hotel the next time I'm in Des Moines. Side note, it's a short walk to Zombie Burger. My husband even ran into another guy who had a to-go order from Zombie Burger in the hotel elevator as he was on his way out to get us some food from there. read more

I had one of my best hotel experiences at the Staybridge. It is brand new; therefore, everything is new, clean, and fresh. The highlight was 100% the bed... it was unbelievably comfortable to the point that I hated my own bed when I got home. Overall, exceptional value and I will be staying here again on my next trip to Des Moines. read more

My girlfriend and I stayed here when Tool was performing at the Wells Fargo Arena, and all I can say is wow! We were very impressed, and the assistant manager (Shawn Schmidt) was very helpful and welcoming. The rooms were amazing, and everything was super clean. Continental breakfast was awesome, and overall the stay was perfect! Such an awesome customer experience! read more
