Staff was nice to accommodate a room change. First room was next to elevator and we didn't want all the noise. We have stayed here several times before because location is great. Other than that, upgrades/ renovations need completed asap! Our new room has holes in the curtains and looks like windows have never been cleaned on the outside. Also does not smell good. Smells old and dingy. I get it's an older hotel but needs taken care of!

I attended a conference at the Iowa Events Center and stayed in the attached Hilton. The event center is beautiful! It's a little easy to get lost (it's a very large space) but the all-in-one convenience can't be beat if you're only in town for work (with little time to explore). I was here as a guest, not host, so I can't speak on the conference planning but did enjoy the service and set-up. The skywalk makes it very easily accessible from the hotel. Breakfast options (at the Hilton) included either a buffet for $20+ or quick order at the Park Street Coffee Bar (the bar/seating located near registration). I opted for the latter and got a breakfast sandwich with a hashbrown and drink. It was pricey ($13), so if you're hungry, just get the buffet! The egg was deliciously runny and it was clearly not just a microwaved meal. We also had the opportunity to have a nice meal at Park Street Kitchen with industry partners. We started off with a round of fried pickles (which were tasty). For entrees, I went simple. I got the 435 Burger and fries. It was good enough. Nothing extraordinary but it fit the bill. Others had the meatloaf stack, mushroom risotto, and loaded potato soup with brussels sprout salad.

Great location, clean room, and excellent customer service. The hotel is part of a skywalk that connects throughout downtown, which I think is pretty neat. Its about a 20 min walk to the capitol. Looking forward to having another overnight here.

Stayed here for the Des Moines marathon. it was right next door to packet pick up. and a short walk to the start line. we got to use the VIP lounge and had a great breakfast. the room was great, very clean. we also hung out in the lobby and watched the ball game on their large TV. the staff was friendly from start to finish.

It's a very clean and convenient hotel being attached to the skywalk. It was my first time in Des Moines so I didn't know about the skywalk, but it's a great way to get around in the colder months. The bartender Josh was great giving me ideas of what to do while in town. The cocktails were creative and original. The front desk was also very friendly. I wish the bar had more food options but the loaded tots (tatchos) were sooooo tasty! Definitely recommend staying here. The parking is also very reasonably priced at $1 per hour maxing out at $10 per day. The staff had a gingerbread house building contest which was a fun addition to the lobby.

The staff was beyond friendly and welcoming! There was a shuttle to take us to anywhere in a 2 mile radius and the rooms were clean!

1 Star Hotel with 5 Star Staff…read more Truly perplexed on this one. As a frequent traveler, sleep is the priority when selecting a hotel. Typically higher end or signature hotels offer a premium experience, enrapturing an environment conducive to a home away from home. Not here..... Key points: 1. Before making it to the front door, propositioned to accommodate persons living on the street. 2. Parking: Be prepared to navigate the maze if you utilize the underground parking, NOT located in the same building. Regardless, you will need to walk outside after paying $32 dollars to self-park whether in the underground garage or adjacent lot exposed to the elements. 3. Temperatures outside below freezing, inside could not get the room under what I would guess is 72-75 degrees. Cranked down thermostat, which indicated 63F, but I'm here to tell you, if I'm lying on the bed uncovered and sweating, it's not 63 degrees. The super awesome front desk clerk brought new keys so I could move rooms at 11:30 PM. Yeah, the new room had the same issue. Something is up with the heating and air, don't perceive there's autonomy in room temp...... As you can see in the picture, set on 60 and claims 67. Again, I typically don't sweat at 67 degrees uncovered. 4. If you like trains, you'll love this place, they come through several times a night in between sirens from local emergency responders. 5. Wear shoes at all times. It hurts when you step on the nail head coming up through the rug. 6. Holy towels if you're a person of faith. Quite airy! In summary, if you manage to drink enough from the overpriced mini bar you might get some rest. If you just want a good place to sleep and possibly even get a complimentary bottle of water on check-in, you'll need to go anywhere else. I've traveled extensively, this is in the top 3 worst Marriott properties I've stayed at, better accommodations at any of the low-end properties. Very disappointing!!! Oh, I forgot to mention I moved rooms 3 times and each time I was told it was an 'upgrade.' Which as a Titanium Elite member it's common to receive upgrades upon arrival. All 3 rooms were exactly the same size with the only variation being where the phone was inadvertently plugged in.

While both times we visited showed two different slew of emotions, the consistent variable was the stay at the Surety. This hotel is beyond accommodating and gives a very cool vibe of old and new and is beyond successful at it. There were several of us that stayed here recently and the staff and management couldn't have been more accommodating. We had lunch one day at the restaurant and the server was accommodating as service was ending at 2p (our order was placed around 1:58p for about 6-8 of us). Later we were told by one of the GM's (Tim?) that would change as they look to remove the time constraints. Going back to (Tim - sorry if that was not your name), he came by later in the night to check on us, was courteous and offered us a free round, which some of us took him up on his offer. We'll be back in the future and do wish this location well!

This is my experience and do with it what you want…read more I've always had good luck with Embassy Suites by Hilton. This place was a letdown in just about every way. Check-in was super easy as we didn't have to go to the front counter until later on in the evening to get physical cards for the other couples in our room. We got digital keys so we were able to go right up to our room and drop our things off. Before we do that, we normally take pictures of the room just in case there's incidentals or something else. With that being said, I will post pictures of my disappointment with this room. We paid over $250 a night for this room and we're staying 2 nights. The Master room had a King bed, and the second room has 2, I'm going to say double beds, they weren't Queens. There was plenty of room for clothes and what not. There was a small refrigerator along with a microwave. And of course, a coffee pot with coffee pods. There was a couple of bottles of water in the room, but at a cost of $6 if you used them. It was stated on them. The bathroom was tiny! For a room that can have 6 people in it. I wish the sink would have been outside of the toilet and shower area. The exhaust fan also didn't work in the bathroom so the humidity built up from taking a shower and some of the unpleasant odors stuck around. This room was in desperate need of updates! From the carpet being stretched out and written down, and the dusty encrusted cobwebs by the air vents on the ceiling. The tables being worn and wasn't even a chair at the desk in the king-sized bedroom. Most windows, you can open up a couple of inches, and there's a screen on them. Not these in both rooms, they were sealed and bolted shut\n Which kind of sucked in the master bedroom? Because there was no way to regulate the temperature in that room. The fitness area looked pretty decent. There was one couple in our group that did use it and didn't have any complaints. I did use the pool and I have to say, there was disappointment here too. The water itself was cloudy. I was in the five foot deep area and not able to see my feet. Also was extremely chlorinated. To the point where even with your eyes closed in the water, they still burned when you opened them out of the water. There was no shower in the pool area to rinse off before or after you swim. Their hotel bar is quaint, for lack of a better word. Be aware that they do not accept cash. So you either have to charge your room or pay with a credit card. I think the price is what you would expect to pay in a hotel. The mixed drinks were expensive, over ten dollars. But a bottle of Coor's Light was only seven dollars. Parking is right across the street in a parking garage. Dollar per hour or ten dollars per day One saving grace for this place is their complementary Happy Hour drink, and Continental breakfast. The Continental breakfast has a lot going on. You have your Toast, cereal, yogurt, scrambled eggs, sausage, French toast, (muffins, bagels, bread with a nice toaster set up) and a really good omelet station where you can get bacon! Prom was going on over the weekend we stayed, so there was a lot of underage kids there running around till late. There was an issue about 1 AM from a group of them fighting along the second and third floor balcony areas where several cops had to show up to break it up. I don't know what all came of it, I went back to sleep. I didn't interact with a lot of the staff, but the ones I did interact with were great. The bartender was hit-or-miss, but the omelet station lady was awesome. Guest services was good when we went to get keys made. Housekeeping didn't knock on the door the morning of checkout, we did online for that as well, before they entered the room. He just used his card key to come in in the morning to clean. We got to interrupted making our plans for the day.

The hotel is absolutely unique and beautiful on the inside, the staff are SO pleasant and they REALLY seem to to want you to have a great stay. We had a cozy one-night stay at this historic hotel. My husband and I stayed here on a Friday night…read moreas we were in town for a show at the Civic Center across the street. If you're wondering, I he Civic Center is a 3 minute walk away, and the Farmers Market is within walking distance, too. We checked in a little before 4pm with no problem. Check-in is normally at 4, but I requested an earlier arrival through the Marriott Bonvoy app. The lovely and stylish employee (Miya?) who checked us in gave us a quick run down on where things were located on the main floor and then we headed to elevator and to our room on the 7th floor. Upon entering the room it felt a little humid. Noticing the thermostat was on 72, I just turned it down a little. We weren't in the room long enough to notice any issues. Those came when we were going to bed. The room was cute and the perfect size for two people. I love the bedding and pillows and the lamps on the nightstands. There was a mini fridge, Keurig and overall I liked the decor. The nightstands were a little tired. The bathroom was the size of a closet - tiny. Our sink took at least 5 minutes to drain every time we used it. I didn't like how the light switch for the bathroom was on the outside of the bathroom. We moved the toilet paper to a more accessible spot. By the time we went to bed our room was warm and we couldn't turn down the thermostat below 65. Other reviews stated that the west side of the hotel has ongoing and known a/c issues and that was the side we were on. While the view was great (we could see the Civic Center and giant see saw art installation from our window), we slept horribly. I started to resent having paid $220 for a sweaty night sleep. In addition to the hot room, we could hear our neighbor cough, talk, etc. at different points. The walls are super thin. It could have been worse, for sure. We turned on our white noise machine. The 7th floor hallway did have some popcorn on the floor on Friday night. By the time we left on Saturday it was still there. Kind of surprised me given that housekeeping had to have seen it. I requested a 12pm check-out (also through the Marriott Bonvoy app), and at about 11:30am housekeeping came to the room, knocked, and let themselves in. He quickly apologized and said he hadn't gotten the message about our late check-out. No biggie, but it might have been awkward for others. Check-out is 11am, but the signage on the interior door of the bathroom says 12pm. See photo. I'm still giving The Savery 4/5 stars because I had a nice time and love vibe and history of the hotel. All staff we encountered were very friendly. Next time though, I'd request a room on the other side of the hotel, especially during the summer months when you want to run the a/c. Also, there is a parking garage across the street for $1/hour. We opted for the parking garage and somehow got out for free on Saturday without having to redeem our ticket. Not sure if the ramps are free on Saturdays, but they were this day. The hotel offers valet parking for $35. I recommend The Savery because of the location, overall vibe, amenities (they have a restaurant/bar for dinner, separate restaurant for breakfast, and offer Starbucks drinks in the mornings all for additional $$). This is not the cheapest hotel option, but we couldn't beat the convenience from the Civic Center. It's fairly close to the Iowa Event Center, too. Recommend. Just request a room that's on the east side of the building if you're staying during the summer and bring your white noise machine or earplugs.

I'd assume if you were a larger person wide it would also be a challenge because of the distance to the wall on the side was also very tight. Everything else was fine it's a hotel. Rooms were good sized. Elevator doors were weirdly slow but not a big deal. Not bad for a night. Wouldn't want to be there a week.
