    TACOS AL PASTOR PLATE
    Janet D.

My tacos al pastor were disappointing. Tacos al pastor for $17.95. 3 street tacos with pork and canned pineapple that I didn't find to be an interesting mix and wouldn't have ordered if I've known from the description that's want it was. Beans were very salty and rice just didn't have a lot of flavor. My partner had the chicharron (pork belly) taco plate and he was pleased with the flavors. He had a similar reaction to the rice and beans. Server was nice and checked on us often.

Had a lovely evening at Abuela's Table tonight! The staff was incredibly attentive and polite -- our waiter brought water over immediately and checked in very regularly. He took care of us very well! The food was delicious! We started with chips and guacamole for an appetizer. The portion was small for anything more than 2 people, but the guacamole was well-made. I had the Chicken Enchiladas with molé sauce. The sauce felt heavy at first, but I quickly realized it complimented the dish very well. I will definitely order this dish again in the future! My friends ordered tacos al pastor and tamales. Both were huge fans of their dishes as well. Highly recommend this JP gem!

One of the best meals we've had in the past few months! We got a reservation at Abuela's table for Fri night. When we reached, it was busy but not too crowded. We wanted to try some of their specialties and unique dishes so we got a few for the table- grasshopper tacos, cactus salad, fried plantains, shrimp tacos, and a side of Mexican rice. Everything was great!! First time trying grasshopper and we were pleasantly surprised. The way they make it, it's very crunchy and the seasoning has a tang to it. The cactus salad was also delicious. The dressing is quite sour, so beware. The shrimp tacos were delicious. It came with a bowl of beans, not sure why, but that paired much better with our side of rice which would've been dry on its own. Fried plantains kinda stole the show because they picked the plantains at the perfect stage, where they were just right in terms of texture and sweetness. Wait staff were attentive and the decor is colorful and cute. We had a nice long relaxing dinner and would love to be back.

This is hands down the best Mexican food I've had in a while. Boston is craving good Mexican places!! I brought my roommate who is Mexican and she loved it too, which is saying something. I had the enchiladas with the green sauce and it was amazing. It had a little bit of a kick but I have 0 spice tolerance and definitely enjoyed it. GET THE HORCHATA! Also the painting/mural on the wall was so cute. The employees were very kind and provided fast service! We had no wait when coming on a weekday at dinner time

We wanted to give this place a try as it's relatively new. We got the Chicken Enchiladas, Flautas de Pollo, Tamales, Elote, and Chicharron Tacos. The Flautas de Pollo were pretty good, albeit the chicken inside was a little dry. The Enchiladas were also good, as was the elote (though the corn was not a juicy or sweet as I typically prefer). The Tamales were decent, though again the meat was a bit dry; if i were to come again, I'd probably opt for the vegetarian ones. The chicharron was cooked really well and was yummy--crispy and juicy, but not tough. The black beans that came with most dishes were well seasoned and tasty. The service was ok, and the ambiance was ok (nothing spectacular, fairly nondescript). They do seem to have a feedback problem with their speaker system, which I noticed almost immediately (but others seemed not to), which was at times a bit annoying. We also got dessert, the churros and chocoflan. The churros were good, but we didn't care for the chocoflan; the flan was not great and the chocolate cake part was dense (but not in a fudgey delicious way). We'd probably pass on dessert if we came back.

I was so sad about the loss of oriental de Cuba (previous restaurant in this location) I put off trying this place for a long time. Boy, do I regret my choices. I went with a group of 6 of us so got to sample many things. Everyone has positive reviews of their plates! I was impressed by the vegetarian options as well. They have a solid brunch menu in addition to the regular options. My favorite things were the tamale sampler and the Mexican coffee! Service was great, answering all of our questions and offering solid recommendations. Will be back to try more things off the menu!

    TACOS DE BIRRIA

Good service and great food. Got birria tacos here that were a 10/10. Big filling portion as well. My friends tried their other tacos and enjoyed them but they seemed a bit small. It's a nice calm environment to eat.

The name of this place is SPOT ON! this is literally like going to eat to grandma's house - humble, homey, comforting food. Could it be better? Of course. But grandma doesn't have fancy ingredients in her kitchen, she just has love and her food is good. Mini tamales - 5 different flavors, all good, my favorite one being spicy chicken. The sweet corn and coconut ones are very unique. Arrachera Mexicana - the beef in this dish was the best thing I had - so tender, savory, with a touch of lime. On the other hand, the chilaquiles were pretty bland and greasy, not a fan. Elotes - really good! Loved the heavy addition of lime. Tacos al pastor - not the best looking and definitely need onion and cilantro on top, but somehow they were still delicious. One of the best and most authentic things I had (that I would come back to eat over and over again) was the rice and beans. No idea what they put in there but I couldn't stop eating it.

Great food!!! Best Mexican! Five Stars! So glad they are in Jamaica Plain! A wonderful addition to Boston!

Shredded Beef Enchiladas with Red Sauce
    Chirag P.

Enchiladas were decent, wasn't spicy just more of a mellow tomato based red sauce. Shredded beef in them was good. Black beans tasted freshly made and seasoned well, and rice were also good.

Worst taco Tuesday ever. The tacos are tiny, flavorless and dry. And for $3.50 each! Don't waste your money.

Such a good spot for a cozy filling meal. STEAMED CHICKEN GYOZA Soft tender and packed with a juicy chicken filling. The wrapper had the perfect bite and dipping it in the ginger sauce made it even better. A great starter. FRIED PORK GYOZA Crispy outside juicy inside and so flavorful. The pork filling was seasoned well and the crunch made each bite so satisfying. These were gone instantly. DAC BIET A rich beef broth loaded with rare steak brisket tripe tendon and meatballs. So much flavor and such a generous portion. Comforting, savory and the kind of bowl that warms you instantly. MI WONTON Light clean and comforting. The wontons were stuffed generously and the broth was flavorful without feeling heavy. A great balance to the richer bowls we ordered. SPICY MISO BEEF STEW This was incredible. Spicy miso broth with tender slow cooked beef and all the toppings. The spice level actually enhanced the flavor instead of overpowering it. Deep savory and so satisfying. TAN TAN MEN One of my favorites. Spicy creamy broth with ground pork bok choy and bean sprouts layered over chewy noodles. Rich bold and full of flavor in every bite. We also added marinated soft boiled eggs to our ramen and they were perfect. Soft jammy and full of flavor. Highly recommend adding one to any bowl. Overall Soup Shack really hit my craving. Everything tasted fresh portions were generous and the spicy bowls had so much depth. Loved this visit and will definitely be back.

I was a little skeptical at first with how extensive their menu is, reaching across different cuisines, but regardless if there's one thing they know it's soup. My personal favorites were the red ramen and black tonkotsu, but seriously everything they have to offer is next level. I would also HIGHLY recommend their chicken karaage appetizer, I couldn't stop reaching in for more! On top of excellent food, their service is unmatched! Whether you come for dinner or lunch, you're met with smiling faces and a welcoming vibe that just sets the tone beautifully for the rest of the meal. Our server was incredibly kind and generous, allowing us to just sit back and enjoy the meal. Overall, 10/10 experience and I am highly looking forward to my next visit!

This restaurant is located in a small almost mall like area so it's not like waiting was uncomfortable. The menu has a good selection of ramen, but I personally thought the prices were a bit steep for the quality and portion size of food. Nonetheless, it came out quickly enough and tasted fine - authentic enough overall. I probably wouldn't come back if I had a choice, but I'm also not a huge ramen fan. The water refills also weren't great which was unfortunate given the amount of sodium in every bowl. Nonetheless, this is a solid ramen spot, but not somewhere I'd probably come back to.

Unfortunately, my experience didn't quite live up to the hype. I ordered the Gankara Miso. The chashu was easily the highlight, very tender with nice seasoning on the outer layer and clearly well prepared. The ground beef had some decent flavor, but overall it didn't really add much to the bowl. The broth was thicker and creamier than I expected for a miso, it reminded me more of a tonkotsu and while it had some heat, it was surprisingly lacking in depth. Outside of the spice, there wasn't much flavor coming through, which was disappointing given how rich it looked. I really wanted to love this spot, especially after waiting so long to finally try it. I might give it another shot and try a different bowl in the future, but based on this visit, I left feeling underwhelmed.

Both Cantonese and Mandarin were seamlessly spoken. Shrimp Rice Roll / Egg: It looked very appealing. However, the soy sauce was ridiculously sweet, much sweeter than in China, completely exceeding the standard "umami and sweet" of the authentic Cantonese cheung fun腸粉 (rice roll) soy sauce. The cheung fun skin was somehow overcooked, so some parts without egg at the bottom were soggy from soaking in the soy sauce, making the whole roll quite greasy. I have to admire my culinary acumen: I managed to preserve most of the skin's basic texture with the extra egg. Fortunately, the shrimp were fresh enough, six in a serving, with a crispy texture. Oh well, since I'm in America, it's tolerable. I must say, I would never have come here specifically for this, never in my life. Spending $10+ on a plate of cheung fun after traveling so far, will make me feel more like a sucker than ever before!
