My daughter was visiting a friend and parked to help her friend move some furniture. It was late at night. She came out to find the boot on her car. She had difficulty reaching me since I was on a business trip and did not have enough left on her debit card to unlock the boot. This could have been an extremely dangerous situation for a young woman in the dark late at night. My daughter has dropped the boot off in the 'container' but the company website is awful. $160 for parking in the wrong place at a private apartment complex is ridiculous. I will be calling the complex to complain about their security company in the morning. Update: I spoke with two ladies at this security company. I have updated my review to 3 stars for the security company after finding out they also are not happy with the policy of immobilizing cars late at night. Apparently, Campus View Apartments in Allendale is responsible for this policy of immobilizing cars with the barnacle and requiring these kids to have a credit card number to remove it. It sounds like Campus view makes $60 every time they immobilize a car in the parking lot. I will be calling Campus View management in the morning to complain about the safety issue. This could have gone quite differently if her friend had not been there, if they could not have reached me by phone, if the weather had been dangerous, if my daughter did not have a charged cell phone, and if someone with bad intent had chosen to take advantage of a vulnerable situation, late at night. read more

The practices of this company appear highly predatory, particularly toward college students who make up the majority of residents in these apartment complexes. Last night, a guest of mine was booted despite the fact that I had created a valid visitor parking pass. When I disputed the charge, I was told that the pass was created "nearly 25 minutes after enforcement was completed." However, there is no way for residents to view the actual enforcement timestamp or enter the violation number to verify this information independently. Additionally, the company refuses to discuss disputes over the phone and will only communicate via email. A simple grace period or warning system could easily prevent situations like this. For example, residents could receive a notification stating that a visitor pass must be created within a certain timeframe before enforcement actions are taken. Instead, vehicles are immediately booted, resulting in a $65 fee with no warning whatsoever. Considering it is summer and many students have left for break, parking availability is abundant. At 7:00 a.m. this morning, I counted more than 20 open spaces near my building alone. This enforcement does not appear to address a parking shortage; it appears designed primarily to generate revenue. What is even more concerning is that booting vehicles and collecting fees seems to be a higher priority than providing actual security for residents. Many residents, including myself, currently feel safer having guests stay with us due to an ongoing "Peeping Tom" issue that has affected my building and surrounding buildings since September. Last week, deputies from the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office came door-to-door regarding an attempted break-in at a neighboring unit that was believed to be connected to this individual. Despite these ongoing safety concerns, I have never observed Absolute Security actively monitoring the area. Residents deserve a security company that prioritizes safety and crime prevention over aggressive parking enforcement. Given the repeated complaints from tenants, the lack of transparency, the absence of any reasonable grace period, and the apparent focus on collecting fees from students, these practices warrant serious scrutiny. read more

Back when I lived in Trio Townhomes I had a bad accident with my car that left it unable to drive for the time it was in service. In the meantime I used a parking pass with a different car until I got my vehicle back. When I left to head to work in the morning the next day I noticed I had a boot. After calling customer support and being redirected to emailing them, instead I was told my car wasn't on the registration list of cars I listed at the beginning of the year. Well no sh*t if it's a rental. I can't predict the future with a rental. Told them that and they still insisted that they were in the right and I owed them $160. I am extremely disappointed with Absolute Security. They cover our off-campus neighborhood near Grand Valley, yet they have been completely unhelpful every time we've contacted them. We have called multiple times about someone parking in our personal garage... a garage that we pay for, and they have refused to do anything about it. This person does not live here, does not have a parking pass, and continues to block us in. All residents in our unit have valid parking passes, yet Absolute Security still won't enforce anything or offer any assistance. It's frustrating to receive zero help when there's an ongoing issue. Upon respectfully calling and requesting more information and guidance in disputing the charge (forced to pay because they would not respond before I had to leave), I was treated with a grudging and unprofessional demeanor, by 3 different employees. Placed a defective boot on my car in the middle of the night and now they don't have anyone to come take it off till 8pm. If you're going to use defective products that are meant to lock a vehicle in place you better have 24/7 support staff in case they stop working. I will be demanding a refund since I'm missing a whole day of work. I will also keep a grinding tool in my car to cut the next one off. Horrible company, no support staff, and they use defective products that lock your vehicle in place for 13+ hours. My daughter was visiting a friend at 48 West and parked in guest parking where NOT A SINGLE VEHICLE IN THE ENTIRE LOT had a guest pass displayed, however, she was the ONLY vehicle that was not only booted but also a large sticker was placed on her drivers side window that had to be scraped off using tools and goo gone impeding her ability to see while driving, this is a safety issue and should not be allowed! Additionally, when she called the office and spoke to the extremely rude person that answered the phone and inquired as to why she was the only car booted she was told "I don't know, you'll have to talk to the security officer when he arrives", does this company not keep any records of why cars were booted? Particularly when no other vehicle in a lot with several vehicles in it had a guest pass. When the security officer arrived she inquired as to why her car was the only one booted when not a single other car had a guest pass, his answer, "I wasn't working last night, that's not my problem", are you kidding me? My girlfriend received a boot in my apartment complex after we were told the wrong place to park for guest parking. My complex does have signs marking where to park, however, they are around three feet high and cannot he seen when a car is parked in front of them. Absolute wrote a parking violation at 2:16 a.m. and when we went to her car at 8:30, no one was on call to remove the boot until 9:00 a.m. We had to head to East Lansing and could not wait around for someone to come out and take it off. I called absolute and they were fine talking to me but were very rude to my girlfriend and were not accommodating at all which I find troubling being that they are immobilizing a persons mode of transportation; what if there was an emergency and someone needed their car but ran out to see that they had been told to park in an incorrect location? Absolute informed us that we could talk to the complex management and have them contact absolute so we could receive a refund. The next day, my girlfriend and I went into the complex office and were told that we had been given an old/outdated map of guest parking and that we should receive a refund. Another day passed and my girlfriend received an email from Absolute stating that even though she was told to park in the wrong spot by the apartment complex, she still would not receive reimbursement. This company is shady and in general doesn't do a good job of keeping these apartment complexes safe. I would hope they try harder in the future. read more

Was booted in Campus View by Grand Valley and called around 3:15pm on a Tuesday to have boot removed. Phone receptionist took my phone number and address and said to be waiting for the security officer to arrive, but was unable to give me a time frame of when they would be there. After waiting over two hours, I never saw them come and called again a little before 6pm. I was treated very rudely by the woman I spoke to, telling me they don't remove boots after 5pm. They claimed someone had come out to try to remove it already, but I was not aware of it and made to seem like I was the one at fault for not being at my car when they arrived. After a lengthy conversation with the woman, trying to figure out when I could get it removed, I had to wait until 8pm before someone would be sent out again. I waited until 9pm and still no one had showed. I called again, and was given an immense amount of attitude, being told that I did not listen to what they had said about waiting for someone to get there, which actually meant PHYSICALLY waiting outside , in the freezing rain and cold for an unknowing amount of time for someone to arrive. I calmly told them I was not clearly explained that the first time, but was treated with disrespect and made to seem like a fool for not understanding them. If it was not for their incompetence and lack of customer service and communication skills, I would have understood them just fine the first time and avoided all the unnecessary drama they caused me.
