A loft suite. Interesting - seems to be a great design very nice use of space.
Dollyrose V.

I always go to 7-Eleven on fourth and Robinson. When I went through Airbnb, this place popped up quite a few times. I thought hell why not. To my surprise the building next to my favorite 7-11 was a hotel. For the most part, it seems to be a residential street. This place was secure and clean. The few times I stayed here. I got to check out different rooms. They were all loft styles. I really liked the design in the rooms. My only complaint is being the beds were high they had a ladder type of stairs. Those were not for the faint of heart. Extremely narrow & steep. Overall though I had a good experience each time

The kitchen area/tv mounted to the wall.

As soon as we walked in we thought what a joke! No space anywhere. The beds "upstairs" had no sitting space! TV was mounted to the wall in the very narrow kitchen area. Literally you walk into a closet space. We immediately walked out and found a real hotel room in another hotel. There was no way we could stay! We laugh about the treehouse hotel!

I stayed here for one Saturday night to attend a show about 10 minutes away at the Observatory. Apparently there was a convention going on that weekend and this hotel was the only one I could find available and reasonably priced in the area. I also found no mention of bed bugs, so that was definitely a plus. This place comes off like a giant Airbnb made by remodeling a warehouse that they are now they are passing off as a hotel. With that, there are pros and cons. What I liked: The location is great. There are a ton of great restaurants in walking distance and the cafe at the hotel "entrance" is one of them. Good food and nice people. As far as the room, I appreciated the amount of space, the clean linens, and the warm shower with good water pressure. I saw someone else had an issue with the water pressure, so I was dreading that, but it was great for me. I also appreciate that there's an empty fridge in the room as well as a microwave (though I didn't use them). I also really liked that the place is gated since there's no lobby. Again, it's also in a great location. Besides the walkable area, you can get to a ton of other places in a quick uber/lyft ride. What I didn't like: The "bathroom" is the worst. Like others mentioned, there's no privacy, so I'd never even want to share the room with someone I'm super close with. I stayed by myself, but the bathroom is so small, I would leave the "door" open. I'm a pretty averaged sized person, so the bathrooms could really use some work. I also wasn't a fan of the lack of blinds. Luckily I'm an early riser, but good luck napping during the day. I really don't understand why they just don't invest in decent blinds. The walls are also too thin. I could hear what sounded like a couple arguing next to me, and I was woken up around 2am by what sounded like a drunk person above me walking into their room and knocking things over. I also only spoke to one person associated with the hotel the entire time I was there - I believe she was just there to clean since she asked me what room I was checking out of. The lack of people didn't bother me a ton, but if you're looking for that touch of human presence, this is not the place to stay. So, long story short, I'd only stay here again if I absolutely had to. I would never go out of my way to stay here. If you're by yourself and you're not a light sleeper, this place might be perfect for you. Otherwise, I don't recommend for more than 1-2 nights, max. Side note: when leaving your room, the door doesn't automatically lock, which I'm not a fan of. You have to hit the * for it to lock from the outside, and deadbolt on the inside. Also, if you plan to do your makeup, i recommend bringing your own light up makeup mirror.

Love the artistic layout of the rooms. I stayed in 2 rooms, ie, more space. Pretty art work everywhere. Love the Mirror additions as well

The stay at Abpopa was amazing. Definitely a family oriented stay. It is cute, date friendly, family welcoming, & friend meet up. They have a cute Cafe located downstairs with yummy food & coffee. It's located near the best shops for a little shopping spree, Hillcrest is a living community. I fell inlove with the ambiance. The staff here are warm hearted and adorable. I almost felt like I didn't want to return home. If you love art the artistic touch in every addition here will fulfill the stay. Rather Charming. Don't miss out a stay here, weekend or weekday, is a must come to.

Cody couch- too bad they don't have the TV mounted on the wall opposite the couch

Quirky ( in a good way) hotel with super friendly staff. I called staff several times about minor things and they responded immediately. Located in the Hillcrest neighborhood with all kinds of restaurants, bakeries, coffee shops, bars, bagels and cute stores all within a short walk. The hotel has public spaces with-tables and chairs downstairs so you can relax and watch people stroll by. My room had 4 large windows which made my room feel more spacious. Yes the bathroom is weird, you brush your teeth in the kitchen sink, carpet not that clean. BUT super comfortable bed and plush towels.the TV was also tired and hard to program. My new favorite place to stay in San Diego. A staff that is on site and responsive is always a big plus.

Not sure I would ever stay there again. Maybe. I literally just checked out this morning. Here are the good and the bad. The good... Location was close to everything in Hillcrest. The fact that there was parking was a huge plus. The bed, although was just a queen size was quite comfortable and being in the penthouse top floor room it was enormous. Way more space than we ever could use or need , and the room practically 360° views of San Diego, which were pretty amazing. Also, the person I communicated with via texting was attentive and polite. I also liked that you can enter the building as well as the elevator and apartment all with a code, so there was no need for a physical key. Love that. The day we got there, the drapes were not connected to the police system, and I alerted the person via text about it and the next day someone came and fixed it. So that was nice. But here's the bad... The entire apartment, which was very long and narrow, is completely surrounded by windows. Other than a couple of very thin, white blinds and one set of curtains near the bed that were also white, you would wake up to the bright sunshine as soon as the sun rises each morning. There was no escaping the sun light unless you had an eye mask. The tiny shower had absolutely horrible water pressure even though it had a huge rain head. The bathroom had no shelving or anywhere to put anything really except for just on the sink itself. The toilet room was right next to it and has a sliding door that sticks and basically locks you in. This happened to me twice where I was getting very nervous that I was not gonna be able to get out of the toilet room without breaking the door. Luckily each time, after a few minutes, I was able to open the door. There was a kitchen, however the microwave is enormous and Italian and doesn't have any of the standard or numbers or dials of any normal American microwave. We could not figure out how to use it until we found a booklet in one of the drawers that deciphered the images on the dial. Even then we really didn't get it to work. There were no paper towels or hand towels in the kitchen at all. The kitchen sink faucet is literally loose and falling apart. Many of the windows are actually sliding windows that let air in all around them. So you can hear all the noises and feel air coming through them very easily. And as I mentioned before, the majority of them have no blinds on them. They offered no extra towels, so we ended up having to go to a store to buy beach towels when we went to the beach. Oddly enough, the one area that they had drapes was in the very narrow far section of the apartment near the bed area and bathroom. They had the white drapes next to the bed that allowed light and heat through, which made taking an afternoon nap very difficult and uncomfortable. But by the bathroom area, they had black curtains. That did a much better job at blocking the light. Seems as though those curtains should be reversed. Also, the bed area is fully exposed to the rest of the apartment. It would really be nice if they had some kind of inside curtain to separate the bed for privacy and at the very least light. Also, with three shear enormity of the space, why would they only offer one queen bed. Really should be a king. We were on the top floor so we didn't have any issues like I've read on some other reviews with hearing other guests in their rooms. But we were woken up multiple times by people screaming on the streets or sirens because as I mentioned the windows don't actually fully close. They basically just hang in front of the opening with a space around them directly to the outside. The apartment seems like it's an event space or some thing because behind the TV were stacks of folding chairs and in some of the closets there were loads of coffee cups and glasses. So that was a bit odd. Overall, of all the bad parts mentioned, the biggest complaint was the sunlight. I could deal with almost all the other stuff, but the sunlight was the biggest problem with napping during the day or sleeping past 6 AM in the morning. We go to Hillcrest to go out at night and party and get home late and then to have to be woken up by the brightness is really uncomfortable. And I guess the other most challenging issue was the incredibly poor water pressure in the shower. So as I mentioned way up at the beginning of this review, I may consider staying again if I really needed to be close to Hillcrest, but probably not. I might consider just staying in a hotel further away and just Uber it over.

The code in the elevator matches the code for the front gate that they send you when you book

I found this "condo" loft/hotel via an online booking service and it was such a surprise. It's an amazing architectural gem in the middle of a residential area in the fun and hip Hillcrest district. The location is ideal and there's even a 7-Eleven right next-door! There are tons of restaurants near by as well. It's a very walkable and fun neighborhood. They do charge $25 for parking but I managed to find parking right in front at a metered spot which is free at night. I believe that if you can find a spot in the surrounding areas you can park overnight for free but I would check beforehand to make sure. Once you book they text you a code for the gate and the elevator and also a code for your room. The rooms are really fun and different and I felt like I was in Europe at a design hotel in Holland or Scandinavia. It's all a bit industrial, with some rooms having fun quirks like plaid carpeting, red Chinese papered walls and upstairs sleeping lofts. There's a cute vintage looking microwave in the room and a full kitchenette. There's a coffee maker with coffee provided, toiletries, soap, and a hairdryer. The shower was great. Plenty of clean towels. My room had a nice view of the surrounding streets and while some of the neighbors in the nearby buildings could definitely look in, it was easy to cover the large windows with the shades. My comfortable bed with sparking clean sheets was upstairs in the loft in a nook and you took a little ladder to get to it. I don't know if this will be the best place for people with mobility issues. However I fully enjoyed it and it's just a close walk to all the fun shops and nightclubs, bars, and restaurants in the area. A lot more fun than staying at a commercial hotel in the gaslight district which is what I've done before. Check out at 11am is done via a guest book in the lobby area. I would definitely stay here again. I'd love to check out the different style rooms as they have several different types of studios. And there's also a great gift shop downstairs with vintage clothing, vinyl records and other neat stuff.

Our interesting but cozy room

So checked the reviews before we decided to stay here. The room is very interesting with a sink on the top of the toilet but the room was very clean and neat it even had a nice little kitchen set up. Just be careful with the folding bathroom door. We would love to stay here again soon.

Since Old Town is one of my…read morefavourite areas around town, I was pretty stoked to book our Friday, January 31, through Sunday, February 9, 2025 stay at the Fairfield Inn & Suites San Diego Old Town. We stayed in Rooms 245 and 253 - read on. Below are the pros and cons of the experience: PROS: * On January 22, 2025, for redemption of a Premier Plus Free Night Award up to 35,000 points + 262,000 Marriott Bonvoy points, I reserved a Guest room with 1 King bed for 9 nights - no out of pocket expense, YAY! * After seeing the room rate per night lower, on January 30, I was able to cancel the redemption of 262,000 Marriott Bonvoy points and rebook the same reservation for a total of 254,000 points + the Premier Plus Free Night Award up to 35,000 points. I saved 8,000 points, double YAY!! * Aleandro checked us in. He was informative and friendly. The hotel was pretty booked that night, so we were assigned to Room 245, but he told us that we could call in the morning to move to another room once one freed up the next day. * We called the following day and Chris at the Front Desk was extremely helpful in getting us a new room. She even went to Room 245 to deliver to us the keys for Room 253. * Microwave, mini fridge, and coffee station in the rooms * All day complimentary iced water, coffee and tea available in the lobby * Onsite market in the lobby * We did not pay for the $30/night parking in the underground garage, but were able to find free street parking around the hotel. * Daily Free Buffet and Continental and Hot Breakfast * Very nice-looking property with fully functioning fountains and beautifully landscaped spacious courtyard * Front Desk team members Richard and Aleandro were super hospitable and amiable. We enjoyed conversations with them. * They are pet friendly, triple YAY! * On-site exercise room * Welcoming lobby with functional fireplace * Complimentary Wi-Fi * Outdoor Pool and Hot Tub * Location - I LOVE Old Town!! CONS: * Our first room, Room 245, was disappointingly run down and needed better attention from housekeeping; the ceiling squares at the entryway, between the closet and bathroom, were clearly old and needed to be replaced, the bathroom door and trim were also in bad shape, the bathtub was not thoroughly cleaned, etc. * Our second room, Room 253, was a major improvement, but I still gotta say - housekeeping didn't THOROUGHLY clean the toilets. * Room 253's walls were THIN; I could hear the neighbours talking, laundry spinning from the laundromat, and there was a constant banging from movement downstairs. * No safe in the rooms. Overall, I was very happy with our stay - awesome location, the property was wonderfully nice and well kept, our rooms were comfortable, and the front desk associates were remarkably affable. I would most definitely choose to stay at the Fairfield Inn & Suites San Diego Old Town again, especially since they are a pet-friendly hotel (We like to bring our doggies with us wherever we go). They are currently one of our favourite places to stay in San Diego. I hope to return soon.

(2) Got back to the hotel man who helped us bring up our things said he would bring it right away when we saw the pack and play wasn't in the room. (3) The guy never came so we Called down and they said sure, they would have someone bring it up. We told them we were leaving again, so if they could put it in the room, they said yes. (4) We got back the second time and it wasn't in there, so we went down to the office and asked them for a 4th time and they said yeah they would bring it up right away. We left again and said we would be back around 10 so they could put it in there any time before then. They assured us it'd be in there when we got back. It wasn't. (5) We called down and they said sure thing, someone would bring it up. We waited and waited and no one showed up. (6) Husband had to go down there and physically wait while they brought it out and handed it to him. I don't think it should take 6 times to get a pack and play. They were doing renovations and that didn't bother us at all. It's nice on the outside and they do have a laundry facility which is nice when you have a 2 month old. Also, had 2 soap dispensers and 1 conditioner in the bathroom. No shampoo. Won't return to this hotel in the future.

We decided to make reservations to eat there for Thanksgiving and were looking forward to a similar experience we had years ago in the dining room. It didn't happen. We were charged 20% for the gratuity in advance (to reward staff for working on Thanksgiving) which is a risk to hope that you'll get service at that level. We didn't. It was a buffet of cold food (that should have been hot) and ambivalent staff with the exception of the turkey carver & Dee the host who were both very friendly. We were seated outside and asked for the overhead heaters to be turned on which never happened. We asked for water and went though the buffet line and had to juggle our plates and lift the lids of the chafing pans & serve ourselves while 3 male staff in white server jackets stood in the corner conversing loudly in Spanish and ignoring our presence. We returned to our seats and still had no water. Eventually after asking again, we got water. No one came by again for quite a while to notice our empty glasses so we asked for a pitcher of water since apparently everything was self service. We enjoyed each others company and paid our bill leaving a restaurant that we probably won't try again. It's a shame because it could be great and they do have the indoor dining room that really should be offered as an option. People who come to Old Town probably want to have an 1872 experience which we did have many years ago in the warmth and nostalgic dining room with good service which we happily left a 20% tip for. Sorry to say, service has left the restaurant. :( I just saw my review from 2011. What a difference: We went for dinner on Thanksgiving day. It was helpful to see the menu in advance online and looked forward to a relaxing intimate dinner that would take us back in time. We were greeted immediately on arrival in the lobby by a beautiful hostess in a period dress and she took us to our table. The cowboy era string bow-tied waiter arrived just after we were seated and took our drink order and another gentleman brought us water (liked his costume but not his gum chewing). We admired the furnishings and wallpaper and planned to tour the saloon & hotel after dinner. It was fun to see the happy families and couples enjoying a Thanksgiving from the 1860's. The hostess came by to welcome us and make sure service was good and chatted a bit. I had noticed that their facebook page announced the presence of Albert Seeley's great great grandson was expected. That's cool! I like experiencing and reliving history and had watched the restoration of the hotel and restaurant on our many visits to Old Town. We've had breakfast and lunch outside but never dinner inside. This was a new treat. Our appetizers were the shrimp cocktail and blue crabcake. I had the traditional entree of turkey with succulent breast slices and delicious dressing and mashed potatoes and asparagus accented with baby carrots. On the side was tangy cranberry with something added that may have been grapes- I'm not sure but it was yummy! Kathy had the boulaibase with ample portions of shrimp, scallops, calamari, and sausage with a delicious broth. She couldn't eat all of hers but I did! Dessert was bread pudding among several choices. I know the grandkids would have chosen the s'mores with graham crackers, chocolate and melted marshmellow! The entertainment was the staff in period costume, some of the guests as well were dressed in Old Town Garb, (maybe employees of other Old Town shops? and the piano player and accordian music. Very delightful- some day we'll stay at the Hotel to wake up back in time!

First, I still really enjoy the Carruth Wine Garden. It is nice to have an outdoor space to drink wine right in the center of the city. In general there plenty of parking ,and it is dog friendly. As far as the wine, it is very good. I like some more than others. More recently, I have enjoyed the Unicorn Red Blend ( a longtime favorite) and the Syrah. I love that it is dog friendly, inside and out. My dog loves going there and she makes friends each time. A change that they made recently is that the main garden area is now child-free, which was a positive change in my options, as it had gotten a bit chaotic in the past with children not being very well supervised. The still have a family-friendly outdoor space. In the past, there was always live music when I came. I was there most recently on a Saturday evening and was disappointed that there was no music. Also, the prices have gone up ($18 per glass). Unfortunately, I found the pours to be somewhat inadequate, though it depended which staff member was pouring the wine. They do not allow for outside food, and only make certain dishes certain days of the week, which unfortunately doesn't allow for many options if you are hungry. Water is readily available inside and outside. All in all, it is a lovely place with good wine to come with friends and your 4-legged friends. It has gotten a bit pricey, and I do wish we could bring out own snacks, but I still enjoy going and am sure that I will be back.
