We unfortunately had to remove a giant (90-100 foot) 48" diameter hackberry tree that was growing up against our house. It was a huge job and the homes in our neighborhood are 15 feet apart so there is very little space to maneuver. We had a fantastic experience with About Trees from start to finish. They came out to give us an estimate and were very clear about the work and pricing, and were also able to tell us "this is what you should do" rather than depending on "what we wanted". Example - we have a silver dollar eucalyptus that needed attention but we really had no clue what made sense for this beautiful mature tree to stay healthy. They knew and made it straight forward. We just had our trees trimmed and the staff were so wonderful! They were so thorough, thoughtful, and kind! They cleaned all the leaves off our lawn (its Autum so it is not their fault the leaves were down). We had cut some small trees in our side yard and have been slowly dismantling them into our bins over time, and they took care of them- not because they were in the way they just did. It was so nice! They really took into consideration our yard when they were hired to just trim trees. The trees look fabulous and we will definitely be calling them again! Highly recommend. read more

Being a single lady, Im super aware of being taken advantage of . Certainly did not feel that happened with About Trees. Alex, an arborist, came out to look at what I needed done, trim one huge bottle brush, take out, grind stump of one half dead tree, and grind down a stump of a Pomegranite tree. They wore protective gear, knew how to handle the equipment, got right to work, and cleaned up. They were knowledgeable and were anxious to satisfy my requirements. Pricing was reasonable! Excellent experience and quality of work with About Trees. Over the years, multiple arborists have helped us with tree removal and pruning, and About Trees is at the top of service we have received. To start, About Trees was punctual in returning our call which wasn't the case with any of the other tree companies that we called. Alex was professional when he showed up to give us our bid, as was his crew throughout the rather large project of removing a gigantic redwood tree that was encroaching on our pool. The price for all was reasonable considering the large crew and all the required high tech equipment, and far less than the quote from our "regular" arborist who did us a "favor" coming out to make a bid for a project that he couldn't get to until Fall. read more

Very nice people and good at what they do when they do it, but very poor at communication, especially in-house. The job was to remove a large Ponderosa snag on our lot in Magalia, plus the top that had blown out in a storm. Also, they were to cut down two large cedars that were threatening the phone line. We paid up front, then they did part of the job, the cedars and the blown out top. The snag they cut down but left on the property. Several phone calls later, over several weeks, during which I sent the office manager a photo of the snag so the crew understood what was needed, they finally scheduled to come back to finish the job - take out the Ponderosa snag which still lying on the ground where they'd cut it. However, when we got home on the work day the crew hadn't touched the snag, but had loaded up the two cedars, which had been cut to stove length, and taken them away. I was going to use these trees for firewood. Scott was sorry and promised he'd bring me some firewood in return. In the mean time, the snag was still there. Finally, after more phone calls they removed the snag, but I never heard back from Scott about the firewood. I texted him at the end of October about this, but he never replied, and apparently doesn't intend to. Like all the other reviews here, I agree that when the crews show up they are courteous and hard working. But in this case the whole job took several months and ended up costing us two mature cedar trees worth of firewood, so I would be cautious. We won't be using them again. read more

Their quote for removing an ash tree was reasonable, and they arrived early on the arranged day, efficiently removing the tree and treating the stump. They're due back next week to grind it, having checked with 811 that it is safe to do so. We used About Trees twice. They seem to have good prices and mostly did a good job. The poor review is for two different miscommunications, the second with very sad consequences. The first job they did for us, we thought we agreed to removal of a large dead branch from a tall tree. However, when the crew arrived, without the arborist who had given us the quote, they told us that the removal of that branch was not included in the work order. The work order was vaguely written. We ended up paying an extra $100 for removal of that branch, but didn't think too much of it and resolved to be more specific in later requests. The second time, they did a number of other things on the property. We had asked them to lop off one rogue tall branch that was sticking out from the top of our grapefruit tree (we don't own a pole saw). When they did all the work, they didn't remove the branch. When we pointed it out, again reiterating by phone what we wanted, they agreed to do it later. They showed up when we weren't around, and instead of just lopping off the one rogue branch, they took off approximately 2/3 of the tree - all of the lower branches, and thinning all the upper branches horribly. About 80% of the fruit was lost. A beautiful, giant, lush, shaggy productive tree was reduced to a tidy, spindly sad little thing. The branches are now so exposed and leafless that I might have to paint them to prevent sun scald - citrus trees are not meant to be thinned like that. I was absolutely heartbroken. When I was calm enough to call the company a week later, the woman on the phone didn't apologize; she just argued with me. It turned out that the arborist had again written down the instructions vaguely on the work order, lumping our grapefruit into a list of other trees that were to be pruned and thinned. That was frustrating as I had made it very clear on 3 different occasions what I wanted. My grapefruit tree will never recover, as all the lower branches have been cut off and they won't grow back. I'm so sad about that tree. I'll never use About Trees again. read more

Then when the office called and I told them I had a $50 coupon, suddenly the stump removal was not included in the quote and the price went up by $100. You figure it out.
