Went to a dealer for some warranty work and they recommended a out $1500 of additional work. I said I'd pass and took my van in to Able. $150 later I had everything done I needed PLUS an update on how my brakes, tires, belts and fluids were looking. Better than that I walked away knowing that what they had told me was in point. Oil change cost less and took less time than Jiffy lube ( not even joking). You should call and make an appointment for any kind of service because they stay booked. I have never had to wait more than a couple days to bring my vehicle in though. I dropped my 2003 Toyota Tundra R5 off at Able @ 0800 with information regarding a grating/scrapping noise that I distinctly heard when sitting at a stop light. When I shifted into neutral the noise would stop. Also, the ABS light would come on intermittently. Near the end of the day I stopped by Able to see if they had diagnosed the noise. The cashier was on the phone (apparently calling me) when I walked in, she proceeded to tell me that they had discovered two things. One, the exhaust was broken /rattling at the muffler inlet pipe. (Apparently they DON'T do exhaust repairs, no matter now minor). Two, there was some idler/pulley bearing noise from the drive belt region. Also the ABS has no fault codes stored in memory. They had also noticed that the vehicles undercarriage components are rusted/eroded in regions, and that their inspectors would not feel comfortable passing this vehicle in a State Inspection. So they made a decision to not pursue the bearing noise in light of the severity of under-carriage/frame. Huh ?? They also failed to notify me of these inspection results, if they had I would have informed them that a repair shop in Portsmouth that I frequent had completely inspected and certified the frame as acceptable and it had PASSED a Va State Inspection. So they charged me a $98 diagnosis charge and didn't repair anything. The noise still exists. No phone call to inform me, and apparently no desire to help repair my vehicle. I won't be coming back here, what a total failure. read more

I took my SUV in for an inspection, and Able found my vehicle needed ALOT of work. Before the repairs, my vehicle had rattled and knocked when I went over bumps(I was totally unaware of how bad a shape it was in), but after ABLE worked on my SUV, the rattles, and clunks were TOTALLY GONE, it hasn't sounded or worked this well in YEARS!!! I originally had some work that needed to be done, and Firestone quoted me an outrageous amount. I called Able Auto Service, and they quoted me almost half of what Firestone was going to charge me. Angela is very communicable, flexible, and knowledgeable. She is diligent and amazing at her job. The mechanic's do not waste anytime at all to get the work done as soon as possible and are very good at letting us know ahead of time what is needed before our next service. On top of working with Able Auto through my company I also take my personal vehicle there and they are always very throughough, explain what is needed and why, the cost of it (almost to the exact dollar), and what the urgency is on getting this repair as I do not always have the money that exact day, however they are very affordable, and never take more than a couple days to get their parts in. We've been a customer of Able Auto Service since 2009. It's a family-owned business close to our home. At first we chose them because of their location, but now we wouldn't take our car anywhere else. First and foremost, they're honest. They don't make us feel as if they're going to take advantage of our lack of knowledge. They explain every item they've found and they let you know if it's a safety issue and needs to be repaired immediately or if it can wait a while. A couple of times, we had to bring the car back because a problem with a sensor re-appeared. They took our car in right away, fixed the problem and didn't charge us. Don't know about this place...They seem nice and honest but they are not accommodating to others schedules and once I began taking my car here I kept having problems with it. They start off charging you a low or more affordable/reasonable price, but its not long before you keep needing services from them and then they subtly go up in the price. A little suspect. Also, I don't like that every time I need my car looked-even for a simple follow-up to what they did, they want to charge people just to assess it even if your a faithful customer or you just need them to check something on it for like 5 minutes. My old mechanic (who unfortunately moved) would look at my car for free or little to no cost if I had just been seen by him or if I needed a brief follow-up.
