It's an auction guys! Go to preview what you are buying. That's what the preview day is for. If you fail to do your due diligence, don't blame the seller for selling something "as is where is" If you bought a bike and then complained after you bought it, obviously you didn't preview what you were buying. If you buy online without previewing then unhappy after, it's your own fault. Do you complainers not understand "as is where is" ? You choose to like the price but fail to do your homework. That your fault not the sellers. I buy from auctions often. I've been stung before and got great deals too. When buying from an auction you take your chances so do you homework or go buy from the mall at 150% mark up and then you've paid to have someone listen to your complaining ! read more

This company is terrible. Repo company in disguise. I do not suggest doing business with this auction company. I don't know how this company is still in business other than screwing people over and misleading them through poor salesman tactics with junk lots. I would give zero stars if possible. read more

Dealt with them so many times and spent ten's of thousands of dollars with them. Just a bunch if ignorant and grumpy staff who really need to learn how to be respectful with their customers. Ive never dealt with a company full of so many rude people. From upper management and ownership, right down to the old guy who sits at the site during pick up day. Not once but multiple times, I've had to deal with their rude staff. I buy a lot from Auctions and their competitors at Direct Liquidation are gems compared to these lousy, ignorant people. I wish Direct Liquidation gets the bid for the auctions these guys end up getting but it doesn't always work out that way and I have to suck it up and just deal with these people. if negative 10 was an option, that's the button I would hit. read more

I asked my partner to sign up to look for some items that were being auctioned off in Victoria this w/e (Capital Ironworks/ Appliance store). He sat at home watching in the morning for awhile, sending me a few texts about how high things were going, but did not bid on anything. He closed his computer around 11am, then left the house to meet me for lunch during my work break. When he got back home, he received an email at the end of the day that he had 'bid & won' on an electrical Napoleon outdoor heater to the tune of $1200 ($1600 with their 20% + taxes). He was stunned, called and said that he had not bid on anything. He had been watching earlier in the day, had not even seen that particular heater that they said he had won, would also NOT pay that much money for any kind of heater etc. The girl he spoke to was very rude and told him that he bid, he won, he had to pay otherwise they would send it to 'collections' and he would end up owing more. He reluctantly paid, but he did not bid!!! This is crazy, and I googled this to see if anyone else had had this experience and it seems like this is not uncommon!!!! I an understand people having 'buyer's remorse' and them sticking to their policy, but he did not bid on anything and she was arguing with him that someone had bid $1,100 and he had bid $1,200. He did not! So, that is it for either of us ever doing something like this with this company again. For sure as others have mentioned, no customer service for sure, and no way to prove that you did not bid. Is this a glitch or something more nefarious going on? I have no idea, but this is a lot of money to pay for something that we did not need or want, and something that we could have bought elsewhere for much cheaper. We would never have paid this kind of money for an outdoor heater ever. read more

*** STAY AWAY!!*** In the couple of years I have spent well over 100K purchasing at different auctions - I am a reseller and thoroughly enjoy the hunt for good items and whenever possible pass on good deals to my clients. Out of all the auction houses I deal with Able is by far the shadiest and least helpful in sorting out issues that arise with the products they auction off. Examples of my experiences with Able: I bid on a lot of designer purses - half way through the auction listing period they added "unauthenticated" to the description, I called and told them to remove my bid which they did because luckily I take pictures of all items I have listed bids on (thank GD). On another occasion I purchased a signed poster at their Sports and Memorabilia auction (speaks to authenticity no?) anyways took it to get authenticated and it turns out that the signature stands only a 10% maximum chance of being real. After writing to two different people who work at Able and receiving absolutely no reply, I figured they knew they are selling fake items and can't be bothered to reply - their silence was very telling. On another occasion I bid and won a TV new in box - brought it home only to find that a whole corner was cracked - on this occasion they took it back, looking back now I realize how lucky I was that I got a refund based on all the other reviews I have read here. Then I bid/won a laptop factory reset only to find that the battery does not hold a charge which resulted in having to buy a new battery. I would definitely stay away from any electronics if you choose to bid on items at this auction house. I purchased a coffee maker new out of the box - when I arrived to pick up and loaded it into my car I realized the grinder cup was missing, they had me waiting around for 30+ min trying to locate it and then I was fed the line about someone stealing it and them checking their video camera (just like another one of the yelp reviewers had stated - I guess this is a ploy they use often) and then they gave me a used one they had in the back. Once I brought the machine back to my office and went to set it up I realized that the water compartment was cracked at the bottom and the tamper was missing - that is $500+ that I sorely regret spending with this auction shack. When questioning the staff member I spoke to about the missing part she was extremely rude and off putting - in short happy to take your money but absolutely no customer service skills and customer satisfaction is the last thing on their to do list. Now to my latest and absolutely last experience where I bid on a large lot of packing supplies - when my mover went to pick up my lots he was directed only to part of the lot and not the whole lot. I only discovered the missing items ten days later when I went to pick up my items from our storage and saw that not all items were sent along with my mover so I contacted them and was given the runaround. First they stated that any items left behind had been moved out of their warehouse. Then I asked them where the rest of my items had been moved to so I can arrange pickup, then they came back advising that their warehouse manager had in fact specifically directed my mover to all the items and at the end of the auction there was nothing left behind - this is completely untrue! My mover was never directed to the entire lot (apparently only parts of the lot were marked with the lot number stickers). To note, I have previously been onsite to collect items where they have their security personnel walking you around and they hardly know what is in a lot or what exactly you are picking up. So basically they were calling my mover a liar and indicating that all of my items had been picked up. This is the ABSOLUTELY the last time I will be spending my hard earned money at this unethical and completely unprofessional establishment - I think I will stick with Cotton Auctions or Big Valley Auctions as they are most reliable, honest, on the ball, and value their clients. You are probably wondering why I did business with these guys one bad experience after another - I kept giving them the benefit of the doubt and I guess I am a very slow learner. But alas, I have finally seen the shady light and woken up, and never ever again!! read more

I have done business with many auction houses in Vancouver and this is BY FAR THE WORST. An auction should be a simple, black and white experience. I bring you an item, you show item to public on agreed date, cross your fingers that the bids are high and then receive your money minus the consignment fee. Simple right? Not at Able Auctions! Here they take your items, play a crazy shell game with your items, lie repeatedly to you about the whereabouts of your goods, tell you they are sold when you ask for them back, then tell you they can't find your money when you ask to be paid, then after chasing after them for weeks you're told they JUST sold at some out of town auction for a major fraction of the appraised value. I went to the police auction on April 26, 2014 after hearing about it on the news and in the paper. I thought I'd go check it out and maybe buy a bike. I will be honest, I don't know much of anything about bikes and how much they are worth. My girlfriend and I decided it'd be fun to check it out. She bid and won a cruiser bike for $225 which seemed cheap compared to the other cruisers before hers. We didn't go the day before to check out the bikes so they would roll them up on stage and hold them up to look at. Her bike appeared to be in working condition. In a few of the write ups they mentioned a broken gear shifter or bent tire but only in a few. Call me stupid for assuming any bike they sell should be in working condition unless otherwise stated. I bought 2 bikes which I knew weren't high end but I'd not an avid biker so I thought I could have them to ride once in a while as that's all I needed them for. No mention of defects in the description. I paid $175 for the pair. What a deal I thought. After the auction, we paid and went to pick up our bikes. My girlfriend's cruiser came out and they front tire was completely off and popped. She questioned the worker about the condition saying it didn't appear like that when they showed it. He basically shrugged it off. When my bikes came, I almost left them there. First bike had no brakes, broken gear shifters and two flat tires. The second bike had a broken seat, no brakes and broken shifters. The auction worker laughed when I questioned him about the condition and said all sales are final. Who the hell sells anything in this condition without disclosing it?? We spend $490 with all the taxes and fees and got 3 unridable bikes. Stay away from these scam artists. I took the bikes to a bike shop today to see if they could be fixed and the shop told me that they were garbage and not even worth fixing. Thanks Able Auctions and Vancouver Police for selling us unworkable pieces of crap. read more

I've bought a few things from Able Auctions over the years. Mostly arcade games at the once famous Mother's Day coin-op auction, which I believe does not exist anymore. I got some great deals, but remind yourself that the auction fee + taxes + any storage fees sneak up on you if you don't factor those in when you're in the live auction frenzy. Able Auctions hosts the big annual police recovery auction. The special thing about this is that there are bicycles galore. It's unfortunate that someone, or some store, had these stolen from them before they arrived here, but I'm assuming that occasionally some are actually returned to their rightful owners. Stil, it's amazing that this many goods are actualy recovered. This year, I had my eye on a Cervelo S2 road bike. They had it listed on their website, and even had a video featuring the bikes up for auction. The details of the items are not listed well on the website. Obviously, they only advertise the nice ones. Most of what's here are beaters. This year, I thought I'd give the preview a try and see what size this Cervelo was. Interesting. The bike was not there anymore. The staff didn't know anything about it. I smell something fishy. I wasted my time, and I'm sure others may have as well. read more

I'm writing this as someone who has not only been a bidder but also a consignor to Able Auctions. As a buyer, I found they were very helpful in the learning process. My first auction had about 50 different lots I wanted to bid on. The auctioneer, who I had spoken with a few times before the auction, made sure his spotter paid attention to me so I didn't make any mistakes. As a seller, I had a similar experience. They were very professional in taking in and cataloging my items. They provided ample advertising and marketing for my stuff and in the end, I got a nice chunk of cash for all the items I consigned to them. Within 3 business days of the auction end, I received an auction report and cheque for my items. My only real beef is this mysterious Buyer's Premium that the whole industry sticks people with and I found their commission rate to be a tad high. (especially when you combine it with the Buyer's Premium). read more

So my review is based on the one time I bothered going to the Vancouver Police Auction. This was a in person only auction, so no online bidders present. I went to the auction to check out some higher end hybrid bikes and see if I could get a good deal. There was about 1000-2000 people inside already. Another 1000 were waiting outside to register even after the auction started. Register during viewing periods. $10 entrance fee was a little high. $5 would be more appropriate, but hey, I guess we're all profit driven. If people are willing to pay, why not? Viewing time was good and let you touch and feel items that you would bid on. Signup for the auction went smoothly. General operations, procedures, etc. were very good. The staff were also very helpful. A girl asked a staff member how much he thought a bike would go for and he wasn't far off the mark. Overall, I'd say this deserved a 4 or 5 stars. Here's the big problem. The bikes went for waaaaay too much. I'll breakdown the cost Item: Norco 2013 XFR1 Hybrid bike + fenders + pump Condition Report: Overall good condition. Regular wear and tear. Tires a little worn. Breaks could use a tune. MSRP: $1125 Bluebook value: $488-570 (given bike's condition) Auction price: $900 + 17% BP + 5% GST = $1098 Item: 2012 Louis Garneau Urbania SX1 Hybrid + helmet + crappy u-lock Condition: Pretty good. Visible use. Chain might need a replacing. Breaks needed tuning or pads needed replacing MSRP: $570 BLubook value: $226-$263 Auction Price: $500 + 17% BP + 5% GST = $610 So the guy who bought the XFR saved on tax + a few accessories, but bought a bike in used condition instead of new. You can get a cheaper bike at your local bike store when they have last-year model sales. Yes, he walked out like a boss, but he paid $1098 for it. Congrats man, you're super cool! *cough *cough ...and the guy that bought the Urbania... well, you're just an idiot. Advice, don't waste your time. Go on craigslist and find a bike there. If you're looking for something higher end, you can also check MEC's community gear trade (basically like CL but for outdoor gear). read more

Pretty sure this is where Carnies go to work after they are retired. The woman I dealt with was also extremely rude and stubborn. Pretty sure she hates her job, I don't blame her. The way this company describes their items is shameful. I bid $50 on the Able Auctions site on a "24K Yellow Gold Foil Canadian 100 Dollar Bill. $200 Retail" That was the exact wording on the description of the item. I have collected Canadian $100 gold coins in the past and I thought this would be a nice addition to my collection. To my surprise my $50 bid won this $100 dollar bill. That made me very suspicious so I searched for Canadian 24K gold $100 dollar bills Canadian Mint and nothing came up, then I continued to search and only found similar products on Ebay, but they are clearly marked as replicas or fakes. I called Auctions to tell them I was disappointed that the description was so misleading and they were basically selling counterfeit money by not disclosing the bill as fake and furthermore advertising it as a Canadian $100 bill retailing for $200. On Ebay, another auction site they sell for $5-$10. They told me to pay or I would be banned from their business. I have been a client for many years and I am angry and disappointed in this interaction. It's not as if they could sell photocopied money and describe it as real. read more

Listen one of the two of the gripes below can be resolved by showing up at the preview day during business hours.. sorry this is a business I get that. But lets talk about their technology and process that I am sure leads to lower prices for the sellers and missed opportunities for buyers. First I have bought stuff around the world Christies, ebay, Hakes, Heritage, Heppel, as an absentee bidder either by phone or online and given this experience the tech they use here really is weak and it is not fully supported by strong management processes. Today I bid online for an office chair, I looked at the online catalogue/bidding vehicle and called up to see if I had won and they had said it was removed. They said it was in printable catalogue? Err ... is this the place for it, you have an online auction site that is live? Ok I write this as I have had enough of their online process, you submit bids in live mode and most of the time it does not work. If you attend a live auction and there are multiple items and you want one .. you must tell them before the auction as they will sell a few and then sell them all as a group... and you will miss out.. they do not sell them one by one by one ...and you just have to know that with them Listen this is the last place I would sell my collection/stuff. I could go on but having a system that misses higher bids and poor infrastructure means as a seller I am losing money and as a buyer I am always frustrated. I have come back always in hope ... of a good deal but my advice is just do not waste too much time with them you will always be frustrated. read more
