The mother-daughter team and the other fabulous women who help them run this shop, select only the most interesting and lovely pieces, all arranged just right to spur your creativity. From the street, you wouldn't pick them out of the unassuming industrial-park like building, but once you enter, you'll find yourself inside the biggest consignment store in Western Canada. In the front you'll find jewelry, art, china and other smaller items displayed on cabinets, all of which are for sale. Step into the next room and depending on the decor that week, you could find yourself in a retro teak living space, or an antique Canadiana cabin-like setting. Once you enter the main space, best of luck to you. If you love furniture, antiques, and things with stories, you can browse to your heart's content. From rugs to couches, tables galore, and a vast selection of cabinets, curios and everything in between, this is truly a furniture hunting heaven. With new items from other shops that have closed, you'll find old mixed with new, all set up to inspire you. No tripping over dusty IKEA dressers here, this is not your average thrift-shop. Don't miss the upstairs, filled with chairs, stools, small tables and other treasures. With weekly additions, the ladies behind this shop have fabulous taste, and everything is on consignment, so you'll do well to ask about pricing, sometimes the bigger pieces are negotiable. So far I've purchased an old wooden coffee table from a Philippine beach house for $80, a vintage suitcase for $45, vintage luggage rack for $25, a fabulous teak chair for $90, and a few other small items. I like the painting a great deal but when it was sold to me it was stated (as well as on the selling tag) that it was an unsigned work of a specific artist. I took their word for it but am also not naive. I liked the painting and paid a fair price for it. After purchasing the art I was curious if they were being honest so I emailed the artist and asked if it was indeed his work. He said no it was not. I believe that this was a selling tactic of the group and did not appreciate it.

Once the guys picked up, we knew what was left to sell or donate or put out on the sidewalk with "free to a good home" signs plastered on the stuff. Marlon the man was a bit brusque, but really knows his business, and we made a bit of cash on the stuff. Marvel pricing and service is good. I appreciated the honesty. We didn't get "top dollar" but you know what, the guys who promised top dollar seemed to not have the cash to pay for the goods. Overall, I recommend Marvel if you have to liquidate an estate of basic stuff, or you have a basement full of chests of drawers to sell. (these are highly sought after) Maybe run in to have a peek at the weekly auction, too, if you are searching for basic furniture in good shape. I like these guys!

Wow, what a cool little shop! Full of all things vintage and beautiful, it was one of our first…read morestops on a recent RETURN TO VANCOUVER trip (woot woot!) and what a fun stop it was. With a staff fully comprised of dedicated volunteers, and a carefully curated inventory often donated by hospice recipients, there are definite treasures to be discovered here. The shop doesn't carry clothing (there's a HOB store just for that, a few miles away) but they do carry everything else. Kitchen items, decor, small furniture, craft items, books, and general bric-a-brac are waiting to be found here. They also have an impressive selection of antiques and vintage items, and I found their prices to be very reasonable although definitely higher than your typical thrift shop. I was also impressed that HOB Too is so used to serving their regular customers, they immediately recognized me as a new customer! One of the volunteers on duty that day even came over to say hi, introduce herself, and see what I thought of the shop. We ended up talking for several minutes. It was a really special experience for me, getting to learn more about the shop and their dedication to raising money for Hospice while serving the vintage/thrift community. This is truly a cool place and I will 100% be back!

Hidden in plain sight, really, as it's just across the street from a Yelper fave, Big Star Sandwich. Frankly, I'm heartened there's now another MCM-focused vintage store in town! Packed into the Lab's small space is a number of nifty teak sideboards, record cabinets, chairs and other Danish modern furnishings and housewares for my soon-to-be groovier living room. Prices compare favourably to the *other* MCM store, and the proprietors here seem really nice and friendly and enthusiastic about their wares.

There's plenty of mid century furniture to choose from and upon inspection of some of their refinished items, they do an incredible job. Like with vintage and hard wood furnitures, some of the pieces are not cheap but they're unique and will last a long time. The other plus to this store is their kitschy (and sometimes original) art pieces and tchotchkes. I prefer this place to the shop in the Quay so I'll most likely come back as a few items tweaked my fancy (especially the sunburst table) and I'll be sure to let people know about this place.
