My spouse escalated our request to the owner, George, as he felt that is was Ablaze responsibility. George said he would look into the issue. We notified them on 6/12/24, on 6/24 George himself came out to look at the pan and measure the closet to see if a new appropriate drain pan would fit because not all comply with current codes. He ordered the new drain pan, scheduled to have it installed but also commented on the review I left, he asked if he could come by. We said he could come verify our statements when the pan was installed but his team Brian and David were well aware of a number of issues prior to our final payment. Today, August 2nd the new drain pan was installed as George did acknowledge that is the proper installation for the set-up we have. He also reviewed a number of items, offered to fix what he could. While it was a nice offer/gesture, our experience with the team (Brian & David and all the sub contractors) made it impossible for us to accept. George indicated he was not aware and that a number of these items could have easily been punch list items to be taken care, but that option was never given to us. George did in fact reimburse us for a different issue. I'm grateful George stepped in and that he was willing to at least look into it. I'm more grateful he acknowledged and did correct the drain pan and I appreciate his offer to correct what he could. The crew that was here did an excellent job (from what we can tell as of today). It's unfortunate it had to be escalated but I can confidently say, when it was, George did everything he could to get taken care of appropriately. We just had Ablaze paint our basement. The entire process from the quote through completion was flawless. The painting crew arrived on time and in two days they transformed what was a very tired and worn paint job into a beautiful room. Miles offered a complementary color consult and went to the paint store to put samples on the wall for us. He made helpful recommendations and the color looks great. As an update...another shortcut found that could have cost us our house. Dryer duct completely ran incorrectly with the wrong pipe...thanks to Mr. Duct for finding and fixing this fire hazard. I didn't end up working with them for several reasons: 1) There was a LOT of back-and-forth with the customer service representatives to get estimates. First this person was a meeting. Then the next one was on break. Then the next one had to wait to hear back from a third one. The process needs to be more seamless to get an estimate. 2) I REALLY did not want to hire a painting company that hadn't seen our doors in person. I'm not opposed to digital photographs to create estimates, but the other painters who came out and saw what was going on with the aluminum doors significantly changed their prices. I didn't want any surprises after the fact. Because I wanted to see their estimate on deck work, I figured we could do a two-for-one. 3) No matter what I asked, the guy who came out here had a passive aggressive answer that dismissed my question: "Let the pros worry about it." "Don't you worry about it. We'll figure it out." "You don't need to know that." After the third time, I finally told him, "Look, I'm in charge of paying for this service, so I need you to tell me what you're going to do for this particular service." He FINALLY decided to talk to me like a human being and told me potential solutions for paint and deck work. We ended up hiring a different set of painters and a different set of deck repair people (the latter of which are doing a phenomenal job, by the way). But I'm leaving this review to let the reps know that this could've been so easily avoidable. I was about 95% sure I was going to hire this company instead, until I got the service I got for numbers 1 and 3. I definitely do not regret who I ended up hiring, so I guess this was a lucky accident. Still though, when customers are curious about what they're paying for, it's not too much to ask to just answer the question. read more

I do not hesitate to recommend ABL any chance I get. We had a huge kitchen remodel that involved taking down a wall, putting a doorway in a load bearing wall and even having to bolster up the second floor (a part was sagging). ABL was super professional through the entire process and completely responsive to every phone call we made. They worked very well with our designer and all the third party suppliers. Much of this was not always easy. The project got out of hand and ended up spreading throughout the entire first floor. ABL flowed with the changes and never blinked an eye. Since completion we have had few things that needed to tended to and we continue to get the same professional attentiveness we had when we were in full construction mode. Abl group just finished our hardwood floors. I am EXTREMELY disappointed to say the least. The owner came over to give us an estimate in May. We wanted to get the floors finished in order to get our house on the market ASAP. With a lot of back and forth, they finally scheduled us for the 4th of July. This was after many phone calls to try to get on the schedule, even after paying a down payment. I don't understand why it was so hard to give us a set in stone date, but apparently it was. We didn't know they were actually going to show up for sure until 2 days before. To say the least, we were extremely frustrated. I left town with my 3 month old baby and my 3 dogs in order to give them the time they needed to do our floors. I thought it would be straight foreword.... but no. They just didn't do part of the floor! Seriously, they just STOPPED staining the floor because (according to the owner) "they thought it would blend in". So this morning they came to finish it. I had to leave with my baby and my dogs AGAIN for 4 hours for them to come and finish. In 90 degree heat. And it only looks OK. I am mad and very disappointed. I do not recommend ABL group, at least for wood floors. And the part they just finished still looks blotchy. read more

My mom and I found the ABL group through a recommendation last summer. After meeting their wonderful team, we hired them to renovate my mom's new house in Chicago. From the planning to the physical work, ABL's staff and associates were professional and talented. Not only was the workmanship excellent, but Michelle, Jennifer and George were able to help us figure out several difficult requests. In particular, the project manager Brian and his associate Ralph (along with all of their wonderful assistants) were incredible. They were always transparent and kind besides being extremely knowledgeable. Even after my mom moved in, Brian and Ralph continued to stop by to install things that were delayed by the manufacturers (due to Covid) and make adjustments. Amazing! We have had no improvements to our home since we moved in 13.5 years ago and the house was definitely showing wear & tear. Howard, owner, came out initially to go over everything we wanted and provide a quote. I had originally wanted to have wainscoting installed. Howard pointed out that with the amount of furniture we had, we might want to go with just a chair rail and white paint below as the wainscoting would be mostly hidden and not worth the money. I appreciated that insight and did go without the wainscoting, which was the right decision in the end. Point being, he will give you honest opinions on the work you are requesting. He also has a very experienced eye and will point out things that should be repaired. Once we signed the contract, Howard had a design consultant come out to help us pick paint colors and design the built ins we wanted. This was really nice to have some guidance in this area instead of just winging it. Howard was accommodating as well with the timing of the work as we wanted to have most of it completed while our child was away at camp. He got his crew in there and they finished 95% of the work in the 2 week window that my son was out of town. The employees were all very professional, prompt, neat, and friendly. The quality of the completed work is top of the line. I can't begin to say how incredibly pleased I am with the end result. I feel as though I live in a brand new house! Description of work: First floor - repair large hole & water damage in ceiling; repaint ceiling, walls & baseboards; install crown molding and chair rail. Build & install 2 custom builtin bookcases. Second floor - replace carpet; repaint ceiling, walls, woodwork. The entire team was really great especially through COVID. We had our granite countertops replaced with quartz and subway tile backsplash installed. Victor and his partner installed the tile and did an excellent job, paying a lot of attention to details. ABL is my new favorite contractor. We used them a couple of years ago to refurbish our basement and we were very happy. ABL workers were completely professional and they showed up EVERY DAY, ready to work a full day until job completion. They are now doing work for my son and daughter-in-law and they sing the same praises as me. What makes me particularly confident in ABL's workmanship and customer service is their extremely adept staff from the receptionist to the project head, to the workers. This company is a RIP OFF! They did horrible service and damaged my room (light fixtures and put a small hole in the wall) and said "it was already there" they also DID not put screws back into the socket covers and I had to call them back to repair. The price was extremely high for such a bad job! I would NEVER use this company again!!! You get a good "sales pitch" but horrible work and damaged property!!! We used ABL to paint the interior of our house. They did a great job and I would definitely recommend them. It was a big job: removing wallpaper, lots of trim, windows, etc. They were on-time, stayed on quote, clean, and the end result is beautiful. We've lived here for 34 years. In all that time we've never up-dated our kitchen other than to replace appliances. In the meantime, the quarry tile floor developed many cracks. I'd resisted replacing it because of the disruption to our lives. Then the refrigerator started failing. A new one wasn't going to fit. So a cabinet had to be removed. That's when we bit the bullet and found a designer, Glen Lusby. He suggested some general contractors for us to meet. We met with three. The ABL Group wasn't the least expensive, but they made us the most confident they could complete the work as quickly as possible. In the interim between the time we contracted their services and they were to begin work, The ABL Group sent out their countertop fabricator to make a template so it could be installed as soon as the floor was finished. The same workers saw the entire job through. Andres did the floor and backsplash tile. Lico did the carpentry and touch-up. (I don't recall the name of the countertop fabricators.) And there were two painters. Everyone was unfailingly prompt, professional, accommodating, thorough, neat, and cheerful. Mike, the boss, addressed any concerns promptly and completely. There was only one hiccup. The countertop fabricators didn't shape the corners as our plans indicated. We didn't notice until they had glued the countertop into place and left. I admit to getting a little volatile, but Mike got them back out and they corrected it on site. All's well, etc. The project was completed in three weeks (except for a couple very minor touch-ups) and on budget (except for add-ons we asked for and approved). God forbid we have to do any further construction, but if we do we'd unhesitatingly call on The ABL Group to do it for us. read more

Howard does a great job with the initial quote. We have used this company for three different projects. On the first project, we had a roof leak and ABL came in to repair and replace the damaged drywall. The crew was excellent and did a beautiful job. On the second project, we had a similar repair. The crew custom matched the paint in a different sheen than was previously used but did not remove the fire alarms from the ceiling. You can see multiple areas on the ceiling that were not painted with the new paint. It looks like an amateur painted it. The third project was an electrical project, installation of new fixtures requiring new electrical runs. The electrician was very nice, but did not seem to know how to install a ceiling fan for exhaust. We called Howard back and he sent a new crew out to redo some of the work. They did a decent job, no recurring issues so far. read more
