Good, Honest and ethical. Price is expensive. This is the best way to get more value from this business. 1. Know the basics of septic tank and leach field. 2. Call these guys for pumping out. 3. Ask for their expert opinion on condition of tank and preventive things to do. 4. Leach field is where the money is. So please be preventive. In my case he suggested putting an outlet baffle. We hired these people to come pump our septic tank and check why our tank alert light/alarm went off. They helped great with pumping the tank, but that's all the guy knew how to do. He suggested we basically replace our pump completely and 2 gages, the float, EVERYTHING! before we spent $1500+ doing this, we had Northern Illinois Septic Service come out to check if just our tank alert device was the problem. Not only that, these folks do *not* have a depth of experience and misdiagnose--quoted a repair that didn't make sense to me as a homeowner so I got other quotes, all coming in at 50% less and completely different with the diagnosis. The one star reviews here make a lot of sense given previous experience. The five star reviews make a lot of sense if you don't spend time to understand how these systems work and I don't fault homeowners for that. We should be able to hire professionals who know the work and stand by it. Take a pass, folks. Absolutely fuming! This company has $8000 of our money, been dealing with them since end of April, and now end of August and we STILL have literal shit sitting in our front yard! Takes a week to get anyone to come out and check your problems. They say they will call "tomorrow" and here I am 5 days later and nothing. Next step is to report them to the BBB. Update: as of March 2019 there has been NO resolution to our grievances with this company. The owner never contacted us as promised. When we call to follow up no one can seem to "remember" of case. This company ILLEGALLY did not pull permits on their work. They ILLEGALLY did not preform a soil sample to accurate access our land. read more

The reason that we didn't file a police report is because our lawyer advised us that the payout we were likely to get from a small claims court would not be worth our time, given our current financial situation (which is plenty secure). I truly can't believe that you expect your customers to file a police report and take you to court in order to for you to make things right. As I explained to you numerous times there were no packages delivered that day and the only other workmen came the following week (days after the damage) because your guys did not finish the job. Had to call them multiple times to confirm appointment and when we finally did confirm, they came over three hours outside of the window of time they gave us. Told us they'd be here between 10-1 and did not show up until after 4:30 without even calling to tell us they'd be late until around 3. Very unprofessional on that. I used this service multiple times in the past for septic work. I also have a property with a sewer line that has chronic tree root problems. I usually get it cleaned with rodding (blades) and I get about a year or 2 before it needs to get rodded out again. I was "sold" the solution was hydro jetting the line. I had the line hydro jetted in Feb 2020 and the roots are back 3 months later. I expressed my frustration. They took no responsibility, no warranty, they wanted the charge me again. Why would I spend money AGAIN for a 3 month solution? I guess customer satisfaction is a thing of the past. read more

Every part of my experience with Ability was fantastic: from my phone call inquiring about pricing, to my call back to schedule a septic tank pumpout, to the pumpout visit this morning. The lady who answered my phone calls was very helpful and friendly yet professional, I believe her name was Connie. Thank you, Connie! :) And the two gentlemen who came out for the service call were SUPER knowledgeable and friendly and professional. I did a boatload of research before buying a house on septic but they knew things that didn't even occur to me, like the fact that I need to divert the gutter downspouts away from the drainfield for max drainfield performance. They even wrote that on my receipt, which is awesome because my memory stinks sometimes lol. Did I mention that they showed me exactly where the different parts of the drainfield were located, at no additional cost? Some of the companies I called wanted to charge for that. Job was estimated, signed the contract, scheduled the work to be done, reconfirmed the date again, took the day off, and thanks to A&P Grease Trappers (a.k.a. Ability Septic and many other names) they were a BIG FAT NO SHOW.... While the office workers are pleasant enough, I can only imagine the amount of work this company is losing due to the unorganized chaotic way they run the office. The initial reason they provided was gee we don't have you scheduled (even though reconfirmed) to "oh yeah" I remember talking to you, to "I left you a message" stating we had to get the items needed for the repair to "Hey we will give you $$ off".... They totally miss the point... day late and a dollar short.. A&P's Lesson Learned: Do what you say you're going to do and be prepared - DONT inconvenience your customers by having them take the day off for a "ghost" appointment, after all they do need to make the money to PAY for your services. They have been extremely responsive, easy to deal with, and knowledgeable. The first time was over a holiday weekend when no other company would pick up the phone. I had a septic issue where water was earring the ground and pooling before my fields. First guy I called kept saying ugh I don't know, I don't know. Then his boss called r saying I need an entire new septic 15k-20k. Second guy I called a couple months later told me that all I need is a flush to the fields for $1500 and worse case need fields redone 5-8k. I said ok and he never came.....thank god. So I never answered their calls again. Then I called ability septic, they came out sucked my septic and assessed that my header lines collapsed to the fields. So only one out of four fields working. He explained what kind of pipe in ground and what caused it and was totally correct. They explained that they try to help the customer with pricing of the job rather than gouge like other company's. And they charged me $1600 to replace everything from the septic tank to the fields. Now no more water. I would say this is the most honest and knowledgeable septic outfit out there. We were in a bind as our septic field was blocked and needed opening up. Out of state family were coming which included 3 grandchildren. My husband and son had tried to work on it the previous week. (They had successfully done this in the past.) However this was a bigger job, a bigger obstruction than ever before. Recently my outside lifter pump failed. Those of you that have a septic system know what a situation that creates; the concrete lifter station is filled to overflowing and one is afraid to use any water since it exacerbates the potential overflow situation. What I needed was septic service - and fast! Over the phone the Ability rep quickly confirmed the failed pump was under warranty and would be replaced. Further, Abiltiy Septic was at my home by 8:30 am that same morning! (OK, they were in the neighborhood.) They quickly pumped out the full lifter station plus my septic tank at a reasonable price and arranged for a new pump.
