A must If you are in the area !! No better way to enjoy the Amish culture that taking a buggy ride. Good price and enjoyable ride. Driver was open for questions and helped us learn more about the culture !

Lancaster is a wholesome place, and we really couldn't have been luckier to have Paul as our driver & his horse Big Ben. We took a 60-min buggy ride through the countryside. Paul was an excellent guide and a library of information about local history, farms & businesses. The entire landscape is scenic, quiet & peaceful. During our ride, we saw Amish doing their daily work, passed Amish riding on their buggies & scooters, saw traditional schoolhouses, drove over bridges & streams, and saw plenty of farm animals. Paul even invited my nephew to drive the buggy! We also stopped at a bake shop for homemade ice cream made from local dairy cows. Note: It's been 25 years since my last visit to Lancaster & it was all the more special to come with family. We arrived on Monday when there was hardly any tourists. My advice is to visit Lancaster Monday - Wednesday to avoid the crowds & enjoy the very best that Lancaster has to offer.

Everyone needs to experience the Amish life! I have wanted to do this for a long time. We were the first to arrive and bought our tickets. Elizabeth a very nice Amish lady took us for our tour. She was such a good tour guide and told us so much about the Amish life and the area. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The ride lasted around 45 minutes. The countryside is beautiful. The farm had a few animals you could feed and take pictures of. The goats were adorable. There was also a big playground and picnic area. Plenty of parking. They are closed on Sundays.

We arrived 20 minutes before they were about to close and they still took us out, no problem. Our tour guides name was Elizabeth, she was very friendly and knowledgeable. The tour was a good price. We didn't utilize the other services as it was late but I saw they had barn animals and a playground there. Definitely recommend. We had a 3/6 year old and did the shortest tour and it was just enough for the experience (and the most our 3 year old would sit for haha).

I arrived here about half an hour after they opened, and there were not many people. I opted for the 2-mile ride. This was a basic buggy ride, just to give you a feel of what it's like to ride in a buggy.

We really enjoyed our ride through the Amish country. Our host Mr. Stoltzfus was very friendly and knowledgeable! We are happy that our money went towards supporting the Amish community. Extra bonus- Our horse Eli was super cute and frisky!

As you drive down the country roads in rural Pennsylvania, you might notice several Amish buggies going by. People are very careful as they drive past them because horses can be unpredictable at times. With that being said, so many of us have wanted to take a ride on one of the buggies. That's where Abe's Buggy Rides comes into the picture. Abe's is located in the countryside of Bird In Hand, Pennsylvania! When you drive by, you'll see a sign to let you know that you've found the right place! Continue toward the back of the property and park your vehicle. There are two driveways, so make sure that you turn into the right one. If you turn into the wrong driveway, you'll end up at someone else's home. When you exit your vehicle, you'll be greeted by some super sweet Amish ladies. You can ride anywhere from 2 to 6.5 miles or you can choose a one hour journey. We paid with cash so I'm not sure if they have a machine to take debit or credit cards. Many Amish businesses that deal with the public take bank cards so I'm assuming that Abe's might too. We paid for a 2 mile ride with Paul as our guide. The first thing that you'll notice is that these buggies are different from the traditional ones that Amish ride in. Amish buggies are completely enclosed and you cannot see inside from any angle. These ones have clear sliding windows for tourists to see their surroundings. That's how you can tell the difference between Amish owned buggies and the buggies that are meant for tours. We had a wonderful time as we passed by various homes in the community. We learned that Amish people have become slightly modernized as they utilize solar energy. Also, they do hire drivers to take them to the store and so on. We did notice that many people were farming by hand or using manual farm equipment. They're very hardworking people. We passed by an Amish school and it was a single room classroom. It was interesting to see young kids playing with older teens. Also, we quickly learned how to identify Amish homes vs homes occupied by non Amish people. We basically learned a lot more about Amish people than we thought that we knew before. We've got a lot to learn from people who haven't been jaded by modern advancements in this world. I can definitely see why this tour is so highly rated! If we are back in the area, I'd love to go for another buggy ride through the countryside one more time!

Ask the Community - Abe's Buggy Rides

How many people can ride inside the buggy? Is there a weight limit?

No major weight limit, but I have seen a family of 5 (2 Parents, three kids) go on. I am big guy I took half of one side.

We had scheduled a tour for 11:00am and arrived promptly at 10:15am in time for the training. Brian was very attentive and assisted both of us with care. We had a relatively small tour circle, as Pennsylvania was expecting a rain storm. We got seated to the scooters right away and we're in a scoot coupe. We paid a total of $226 for a 3 hr coupe tour - which stands a bit pricey. This included the tour, $20 coverage for the coupe, and taxes. Pre coverage & taxes it is about $189. I believe the price of the single scooter stood at about $89 without coverage + taxes. Honestly a bit pricey, but worth to pay every now and then. We began the day by going over the controls of the coupe, which very were easy to follow. Then we took a test drive and went onto the road. Throughout the tour we had made about 4 stops, where we visited Amish farms, and got to sample some treats. We were able to purchase soft pretzels, ice cream, and popcorn. During the stops Brian was very diligent in making sure everyone was comfortable and had enough time to fully enjoy the farms. He was very genuine and sparked up lots of good conversations. During the drive, Brian took initiative in creating both a safe & lively experience. We went all around the fields of the Amish county, and even through some forest areas. The coupes were so-so to drive. The wheel was a bit hard to maneuver, as it slipped from the hands and was hard to keep straight when accelerating. However, it was nice to feel the breeze and the coupe was able to go very fast no problem. Overall we didn't see as much Amish life and animals as we wanted to, but we still got a fair share and got the idea. However, the experience of the tour was significantly enhanced due to Brian's positivity. When scheduling a tour, ask if Brian will be present. If the answer is yes, you will have a great experience!

Lovely perfect ride. Do the Mountain View's tour! And don't leave without buying some Amish cheese.read more

Be sure to take the few moments, to watch the introduction video. My favorite ice cream sample flavors were Graham Slam & Blueberry Lemon Pound Cake. An attraction must, well visiting Lancaster, PA. My recommendation would be too sell a few more flavors that you offer , with unlimited tastings. My favorite was orange icedtea.

When I asked if I could use it to pay for my ticket she literally laughed at me and told me no I could not use their ATM machine and would not tell me why, she then assisted the person behind me in line. Another lady approached me and ended up having a free voucher ticket and gave it to me. I don't have any plans on ever coming back here for any event that is held.
