I've bartended before. I understand the responsibility. But I was never asked a single question about what I'd actually been doing. For clarity: we had lunch at Michael's Seafood before our first visit. I had one non‑alcoholic seltzer at Island Beverage, and my partner had a four‑flight sampler. After that, we went thrifting and shopping at Goodwill, Lowe's Foods, and Dollar Tree. No drinking. No bar‑hopping. Nothing even close. On our second visit, Geneva gave us water and let us charge a phone -- and I do appreciate that. But being told "you've been out all day" instead of "welcome back" was unnecessary, inaccurate, and frankly insulting. It was an assumption presented as fact, and it was embarrassing. What made it even more absurd was watching Geneva continue to serve patrons who were clearly intoxicated while I sat there with a glass of water. So here's the takeaway: Don't go in twice in one day. Apparently that alone is enough to get treated like you've been drinking all over town. After this experience, I won't be going in on any day. I hope the staff can handle situations like this with actual communication instead of jumping straight to conclusions.

I actually had a very good customer service experience today. And I think that is worthy to recognize. The grocery store was packed this morning as would be expected on a Sunday around lunch. I didn't really come in with a plan so I am trying to decide what to make for the week while in there at the same time. As I was walking around there was who I believe to be a manager or so - he was in a pink shirt today - approach me and ask what I was looking for. I told him and he took me straight to it. Later, when I passed by him again, he asked me if I was still good. Then when I went to check out, I had a good experience with Dresden. He was quick, efficient, kind, professional, and did the job well. I appreciate that he was ringing up the order quickly, packing the bags all by himself, and checking to make sure I was cool with it. He is clearly a hard worker and seems to be a great asset to this local HT. All and all, for someone who hates big hall, grocery shopping, I had a good of a time as I could have. I appreciate the customer service that I personally experienced, and that I witnessed the other people experiencing as well. It is wild to say this, but this is the best ABC Liquor Store around. Not to mention the manager is one of the kindest humans you will ever meet. My husband is a big bourbon fan so he has encountered all sorts of ABC workers and many a times, for whatever reason, the Bourbon fans are just not their jam and they often times are rude to them, but not here at Shallotte. The back has more seating outside, including a comfortable looking lounge. Inside there is just a mixture of furniture and decor, a little mismatched, but, it was fun to go into each room to see what it looked like. There is plenty of parking behind Wendy's House. Free WiFi. Besides the wine, they have a buildable charcuterie, chocolates, and other packaged snacks and sweets. There is a glass display fridge with all of the charcuterie items you can choose from and the staff will give you a charcuterie board you can put the items on. Some of the items included salami, prosciutto, kind cultures, and different cheeses. We stuck to their free samples of white chocolate and cheese on crackers. We'll have to try out their charcuterie board next time! For wines you can either select a bottle or self-serve select wines from their WineEmotion system. They had a booklet listing all of the wines they had. We decided to try out the cool WineEmotion system. First we had to pay $3 for a card that is used for the WineEmotion, and then put additional money on the card to purchase the wine. The staff gave us a wine glass and gave us a new wine glass with each different wine that we tried. So you insert the card into a slot in the machine and select from one of three choices for each wine. The choices were either a sample, half a glass, or a full glass and it's a different price for each wine. It was nice how for each different wine that we chose, the machine would show how much balance we had left on our card. I tried three red wines including rombauer vineyards zinfandel. I wasn't a big fan of all of them, because of the spices. It would have been helpful if there was a description of each wine's flavors listed somewhere. I'm sure the friendly staff wouldn't have minded describing them to us. This was a nice place to hang out and to try out some wines. The experience was just like hanging out at someone's house. It would be fun to try out their wine tasting nights next time.
