River's Edge Tactical (RET) is the newest range that I know of in my area. RET is located on the corner of 252 (Columbia Road) and 303 (Center Road) with the entrance off of Columbia Road. This facility has a large retail space, rifle-rated range space, and a classroom for training courses.
One of the best things about RET is they allow customers to bring in their own rifle ammo. The ammo is inspected to ensure it's not AP or has a penetrator core, but this saves the customer from buying overpriced frangible ammo.
After signing in and being briefed on how to use the electronic target system, I went through the doors and into the range area. The range was clean and well-lit, though a bit warm temperature-wise. I usually wear a long-sleeve t-shirt since most ranges have fans blowing cool air (which helps keep the shooters cool, circulates gases in the air to help visibility, and minimizes inhaling gases from the firearms). There was airflow to help with the visibility and inhalation issues, but the airflow was pretty warm. It's a minor detail, but if you are like me and typically wear a shirt with longer sleeves, you might want to wear something short-sleeved when visiting RET.
The electronic targets were turned off, and I was instructed by the staff to give them a "thumbs up" when I was ready so I would get the full 60 minutes I paid for. Once power to the targets was turned on, the electronic targets were at my command. The targets move out to a maximum of 75 feet. Each stall has plenty of space for you, your firearms, and your equipment (range bag, magazines, etc.). They even have a chair available if you wanted to rest your firearm or elbows on your lane's table.
When I was done shooting, I went back into the retail area to pay for my range time. I spoke with the range staff for a while about different pistols, shotguns, rifles, ammunition, and optics, and I was impressed with their general firearms knowledge. They have the ability to order items for customers (firearms, ammunition, etc.), and they had several silencers on hand available for rental. The staff had a good sense of humor and created a welcoming environment.
If you are in the area, I highly recommend this range. Its state-of-the-art equipment is some of the best I've ever used, and the range staff are some of the most professional and personable I've dealt with.
