I recently had Andy cater my wedding at Crook Point. In the year that led up to the event Andy was responsive, seemed to have an extensive menu, offered full services of set up and break down and he portrayed confidence in his ability to provide catering services for a wedding of 130 at the Crook Point location. We agreed upon a menu of passed appetizers during an extended cocktail period. Two signature cocktail drinks at a bar that would be staffed appropriately with 2 bar tenders (I provided the alcohol, he provided the mixers, cups and napkins etc.), A family style dinner service with salad, bread, multiple entree options and sides, late night bites and finally a sheet cake and coffee service. Over the phone I verified with Andy multiple times the timeline of the event, the number of staff that would be available, that the various bar items he would be providing, the vendor meals for the other professionals working the wedding and finally if I needed to provide take out boxes for any leftovers. Andy confidently assured me that he would have all the bar supplies, vendor meals would be provided, the timeline was acceptable, left overs would be boxed up after the event, water carafes on tables would be filled and servers could even provide a passed around wine service during the sit down portion of the dinner
However, come the day of the wedding none of what was promised was actually provided. The appetizers were set up at a table in the corner and not passed around. Neither I nor my wife had any idea that they were even out because it was never communicated that they would not be passed around. The bar service at various portions through out the evening had only one bar tender who I later found out had never bar tended before and had only received their OLCC license the day prior. The second bar tender contracted was apparently off site coordinating another event they were contracted for. The salad and bread service started over an hour later than expected and finally the dinner service was nearly 2 hours late. Not only is the delay in the evening an issue but the food I ordered was not the food that was provided and the quality was not what was promised. Finally, the food arrived cold and in insufficient quantities. My wedding coordinator was forced to step in multiple times to assume Andy's role as he was offsite not available to coordinate catering. We inevitably had to ration food and scrape leftovers from the head table and other tables in order to ensure that everyone present had some cold, tasteless food to eat.
Because the dinner ran late and my wedding coordinator was forced to manage the catering fiasco. I was than required to MC and coordinate the flow of the evening. What was a carefully coordinated and thought out flow of events for the evening turned into a "duct tape and roll with it" event for the rest of the evening. On top of that the vendors that were present and working all day to provide the ultimate experience for us did not get provided any vendor meals and had to order pizza for themselves as well as be drawn away from the event during key moments.
The final incident for me came at the end of the evening. Andy did not have the professional curtesy to provide me with any explanation or apology. Instead two days later it was only after I called Andy to demand an explanation that I was provided with a litany of excuses regarding staffing issues and problems with Crook Point facilities despite previously being assured confidently that having worked at Crook Point numerous times before there would be no "hiccups".
When asked about the grossly under estimated amount of food I was told that "There was plenty of food in the back but that I (the groom) did not come back there to inform anyone that people had not gotten food yet". When asked about why none of that food was boxed up as leftovers and given to me it was stated again because "I did not ask for the leftovers and that boxing that up and providing that to me was not a part of the written contract and therefore was not something he had to do"
There were issues with the cake service and the coffee service as well. I would adamantly NOT recommend Andy Abbott for any catering services. I understand that there are things that happen that are out of our control regarding staffing issues, etc. However, the issues that presented them selves at my wedding go far beyond that and show a complete lack of preparation and self awareness. Finally the lack of professionalism to not even offer me any form of apology, explanation or restitution for promises not fulfilled and a service contract not upheld is something that I cannot overlook when writing this negative review. read more
