Case in point; last Christmas I was looking for a nice ribbon to wrap my gifts with. I couldn't find what I was looking for anywhere, until I popped into Poundland and found three metres of the nicest ribbon I had seen so far for only a pound. Poundland isn't one of those scabby pound shops filled with junk either. It is clean, brightly decorated and the staff are helpful. Oh dear, I've just realised I've turned into one of those people who go on about how great pound shops are. Next I'll be wearing tracksuit bottoms outdoors.

I think the name says it all really, items all priced at a pound and therefore I feel it needs to be judged for what it is, it's not Harrods, so I'm amazed why so many people turn their noses up at these shops, it's not as if they're trying to be something they're not. The items they sell are a pound so big deal if some of it's tat? It can actually be quite amusing looking at some of the items they stock, such as crazy multi coloured feather dusters and £1 DVDs. I saw one a while ago that was a Halloween DVD and the stories were "House on The Haunted Hill" and "The Skeletons" oooohhh, they looked as though they were made by some lonely old guy with his home video camera. I kind of regret not buying it as I'm sure the comedy factor would have been awesome. I usually get really into the spirit of Halloween and Poundland is great for decorations, they have all sorts of things and I even noticed they had some rubbery severed limbs last year which looked hilarious. This is the same for Christmas party decorations and things for Birthday parties, especially if you have children you can get party bags and goodies to fill them with here. Overall, Poundland stocks the kind of items you would expect but it's not all tat in this shop and for household goods and party accessories this is a great shout.

It's ALWAYS mobbed, staff tend not to be too terribly helpful (apart from one guy...!) and they have NO consistency in their offerings. One day they'll have something that makes you think "ooooh, I'll get that for tomorrow's lunch..." then when you go for lunch, it's gone, none in the back and no one knows when/if it'll be back in. I do realise this is because pound shops get what they can when they can etc. but it reeeeeally frustrates me, as I'm in there at least weekly!! The ONLY reason this is as high a score as three is because I managed to buy ALL my baking accoutrements in there, for a quid each, obv!! So, TOTAL BARGAIN!

They are so pleased at this, it seems they haven't bothered to change their styles much since then in the hope that they will still be reaping in the awards. Sadly, 10 years on from this award Faith is being passed by in favour of other high street shoe shops. There used to be a few Faith shops around the city centre but they all closed down a few years ago and this store in East Kilbride seems to be one of the last in Glasgow. Don't get me wrong, I do think that Faith have some very pretty shoes but some of them can look a little naff and are also rather pricey. They do a wide range of shoes from sensible flats, quirky pumps, to going out shoes. Overall, Faith is still worth a look but if they're going to survive they really need to move on from the award that they won 100 years ago.

You know the type- with heels but not so high that I couldn't wear them all day, smart but not dressy, and a little bit trendy so that I wasn't dressing beyond my years. Faith came up trumps. After trawling round different shoe shops, I only had to walk into this store and on the stand in front of me were a selection of low-heeled, trendy, smart beauties. To add the cherry to my cake, they were included in their sale. YUS. My biggest regret was only buying the one pair. Hmm I might go back tomorrow, actually.

It's in a really useful position - you know, when you're far too lazy to walk down to Byres Road - and has quite a good range of pharmacy products. If you're looking for a Boots that sports make-up stands and specific brands, though, you should probably just keep on walking. This place mainly stocks Boot's own brand products and various other necessities - as it's just not big enough to stock a larger variety. It does have a fully comprehensive pharmacy counter though, which is the main raison d'etre of the place. The pharmacists are perfectly helpful, and service is fairly quick. Very useful!

Ok the parent body of this store is responsible for those bloody annoying "here come the girls" Christmas adverts on tv. But you know what? I don't care! Yes its part of a massive chain but its only a wee place and has the feel of a local shop rather than a faceless chain store. I've used this place for a couple of years now and its been our regular dispensary for baby related ointments, creams, wipes, powders, gels and other medical type potions and such. For this reason, in addition to its good service, pleasant if not really overly friendly staff, it finds itself in the "i like you" part of my brain.....any place that s nice to my baby is good in my eyes. So yeah, its a good place. Decent stock, good staff, advice freely dispensed and local enough so you don't have to make the trek down to Byres road for your pharmaceutical needs.....aye, cheers guys.
