Starving and needing sustenance quickly, my trusty Yelp app directed me for a quick and cheap snack to PTG (especially with a great review from our Elite Yelper John L) and I was really impressed with what I found! While probably not likely to be up for a Michelin star anytime soon, it's a takeaway with a couple of tables meaning you can eat in before heading off! As well as kebabs they do pizza and chips, chicken etc but I wanted something properly authentic of the middle east as opposed to just some fried food for dinner. I opted for the Lamb Tikka kebab in naan which was delicious - really fresh, no fat and this was stuffed with sides and sundries that made this £4.50 meal totally leaving me on the verge of popping! A great selection of hot sauces and chutneys is on offer and to be honest the hot sauce was pretty damn hot! My mouth has just about recovered now 4 days on!

Because obviously the beef ones on the dripping, rotating skewer look very bad and greasy. But sometimes when I've had chicken kebabs it's felt filling but now way near as bad as eating a burger and chips. With this in mind I tried out Persian Tasty Grill. The place smelled incredible, but I soon ordered a chicken tikka kebab and my meat was put on a massive skewer and in to cook. It costs £3.80 for the chicken tikka kebab with naan, and it really was amazing. The meat was tasty and succulent, and the salad fresh and moist. The naan was perfect and was the perfect accompaniment to the meat. The guy serving here is friendly as well, going out of his way to help a Portuguese lady with her order when he didn't have to. I'm a big fan of Persian Tasty Grill.

They offer some delicious Persian dishes that are rich in flavour but not heavy. There's also the option of rice or half rice and salad to go with your main dish. On my recent visit, I had the chicken kebab with fluffy rice and colourful salad. It also came with some beautifully charred peppers, shallot, mushroom and tomato. Unlike other middle eastern restaurant, they don't serve the usual hummus or babaganoush. Instead, there's a range of yoghurt dips, which I'm not really fond of. Still, we had ordered garlic bread so we tried the Musto Khyar - cucumber, dill and lemon in yoghurt. It was nice enough but you couldn't really taste the lemon or the dill. Next time I will try one of their tapas-like starters! The restaurant had been nicely decorated and I know their doors open in the summer and you can sit outside. The service is good too! If you live near by I'd definitely recommend a visit!

Without reservation. we felt very, very lucky when we got a table straightaway at the very full looking Pomegranate, which I admit, was not our first choice. We went in, considering none of us had had Persian food before. We ordered this drink called doogh, which was a salted lassi kind of thing with sparkling water and mint, a persian tea and a Bailey's. For food, we skipped the preamble and jumped straight into the main course. we got 2 fesenjoons, a lime and thyme chicken and a grilled vegetables platter. we got this with saffron rice, sprinkled with pomegranate kernels. The rice was very good and fragrant. The doogh was interesting to begin with but as the fizz died out, it kind of fell flat. The biggest surprise of the night for me was the fesenjoon. It had that sweet/sour tamarindy/jaggery combination, similar to the brown chutney one gets with a samosa. It is good in little portions, when eaten with something spicy and rich but on its own, it can be quite overpowering. I am not saying the food was badly prepared, quite the opposite in fact. The chicken was well cooked and succulent, but we didn't expect to be hit on the face with this tamarindy sweetness. Having said that, I wouldn't mind going there again at a time when they're less busy and trying something else. The service was pretty quick, but I would like a little more interaction and input from the staff, which I can't expect on a Friday night. Which is why I'd like to go back when they're less busy. I'd still suggest people go there, get a taste of Pomegranate (no pun intended) and let us know what they think.

However this time, I got a takeaway on my way back from the cinema (the savoy, I would 100% recommend) and ordered it before I went to watch the movie and told them to have it ready for 8:30. I was early and ended up getting there at 8:15 so fair enough it shouldn't have to be ready for that time but I ended up getting the food at 8:40 and when I got back home I realised that I hadn't exactly got the food I wanted. They gave me about 5 boxes of rice instead of 2 of chips and 2 of rice. I also ordered the meze which should've been 2 of 3 different things, I ended up getting 2 of 2 different things but I did get a free garlic bread (because the order was over £20). This was a little annoying but the food that I did get was great so I would recommend.

The lamb in Qabili Pilau here was a little over done for my liking and in slices rather than a big piece. I'm not sure which is more traditional but I much prefer the lamb shank style. The starter of mint, parsley, raddish, feta and walnut was quite tasty although a little different to what I'm used to. If your new to this style of food then Ariana is a safe bet but I would reccomend trying elsewhere.

I was unsure of what to order, but the waitress took her time in detailing not only how the dish was cooked, but also all the ingredients in it, i could not help thinking she had probably eaten these dishes her whole life, and i feel quite central to my experience. I managed to track down My Nawaab and it was far better than my already fond recollection They have perhaps the broadest range of Pakistani and South Asian Cuisine I've ever seen. The service is top notch and I cannot herald the staff enough for their warmth and friendliness. As a stranger on my own, I was made to feel so at home. As a huge bonus, they have my absolute favourite dessert in the world, Oymali, which I last had in Cairo. As a grand finale when I returned for a second night in a row before driving onward to York, they personally made sure that I had a helping of faluda.
