Peejan you are so talented and very special. I am so lucky to have you as my primary pro. Vlad thanks for being my "buddy pro". I cannot believe that I have someone of your caliber teaching me. The entire staff is amazing and they work as a cohesive team which is wonderful to see. Alex, Anya, Yubin, Stephanie, Samantha, Sebastian, Juliana, I appreciate all your hard work and your kindness Tara, , one of the owners, is a class act and makes sure that each student has a rewarding experience (and is an AMAZING dancer)..Thank you all! The staff are not only beautiful dancers and skilled teachers, but they are beautiful souls, as well. They come to the studio (I won't say "work," as it is "play" for them!) as their best selves, and offer their presence, attention and knowledge, a generosity of spirit, to their students. I am a fan of the private lessons, which is their primary vehicle of teaching, where, as a 'follower,' I get held and led as if I am a precious gem. For those of us who have accumulated a collection of bumps and bruises along the journey called 'life,' it can be very healing! I find it so! They are devoted to making sure that their students have a great experience. So, dancing at Fred Astaire feeds me emotionally and spiritually, as well as providing an incredible vehicle for my physical well-being. I don't even notice that I am getting exercise while I dance across the floor--there is too much joy! Yes, learning to dance opens my heart to joy, which is the best medicine for my health! I had a sadness throughout my life that dance had not been a larger part of it. No one is more surprised than me to discover that I am blossoming as a dancer in my mid-sixties! I can't imagine a better food for my soul than this. This is a well run studio, and I encourage anyone who thinks they might benefit like I have, to find a way to fit as little or as much as they are able to into their lives. I'm ecstatic that I did.

It supposed to be a great school in the region. However, we were surprised by the mess we saw at their New Brunswick location this year. First of all, it seems they can't even retain their teachers. For this past year, they have changed the teacher 4 times so far, and every time the change was announced right before class begin or the end of the previous class. Then, they encouraged parents to participate on the parents observation day. But when I rescheduled my other events to be there, I could only find they have a new teacher. The new teacher was neither prepared nor feeling comfortable to have the parents around. I could only see the last 5 minutes of the class and that 5 minutes were not impressive at all. I could understand things happen all the time. But you can't throw surprises one after another at the parents throgh out the school year. This school need serious improvements on their management.

School administration is not warm, especially the person in charge of running Nutcracker and the spring show. Refuses to use email and website to communicate with families, has a very prickly personality. Dance instruction is top-shelf, but this is not a place for dancers who just want to have fun.

Gemma's vinyasa classes are hard, including her "gentle vinyasa" class. You will sweat buckets, and that's no exaggeration. Maybe there are a handful of people who don't break a sweat in her extremely popular classes, but I'm not one of them. Some things to keep in mind: 1. Show up 5-10 minutes early to get your spot, it will fill up. 2. The class might start a few minutes late, end 10-20 minutes later than scheduled--important if you're feeding a meter. 3. Check your ego & anxiety at the door. There will be people more fit than you, at 1/3 or 2x your age--we are each going for the same reasons: mental & physical health. Do your modifications, take a breather, it's all cool, no judgement. If someone does judge you, it's their problem, not yours, so who cares? 4. Take your time. I'm no weakling & have taken well over a thousand yoga classes during the past 3 years, in addition to my other fitness routines, and these classes are still hard. 5. Drink plenty of water 6. Enjoy the happy glow that can last at least another full day Bonus: my husband is happy that I'm enjoying yoga again, instead of feeling grumpy due to issues at another studio. There's no sink, so bring a spray bottle & wash cloth to mop up yourself afterwards. Single classes are $12, a 20 pass is $200, unlimited is $95; prices cheaper if you're a student. Entrance on Tulane.
