My first visit to Dr. Coughlin was in 2004 as a referral from my PCP. My second screening was in 2012. Dr. Coughlin took the time to listen to me and my concerns along with explaining how the procedure is done and the expected results. My first screening required the old way of fasting and cleansing for two days. The current method is a one day process now. This is the worst part of the procedure, however if you are prepared and knowledgeable about the cleansing liquid and tricks to make it not so bad, the entire process is good. Still no fun with the cleansing liquid and no eating for 24 hours. Both of my colonoscopies went well and Dr. Coughlin explained the results and gave me a detailed report of his findings. Having been in the ultrasound medical field for 11 years, I have thought about doing the procedure without sedation just to see how all the equipment is used during the procedure. In talking to Dr. Coughlin and others in the field about doing the procedure without sedation, I understand why this is not a common practice. A colonsocopy is not something anyone looks forward to, however when you have an experienced and knowledgeable physician like Dr. Coughlin it makes something that we wish we didn't have to do into something that we do not dread.

To be honest, when I first walked into her office, I was already looking for an excuse to cancel again. But once I spoke with her, I was really impressed with her knowledge and the way she explained everything, so I decided to keep my appointment. Today was my procedure at Silicon Valley Surgery Center, and I had such a great experience. The facility was clean, calm, and very nice. Every single person I interacted with was wonderful. From the front desk to Barbara, who helped review my paperwork everyone was kind and welcoming. My first nurse, Kay, was incredibly nice, knowledgeable, and professional. When she went on break, Nicole took over she was also amazing. I'm not a fan of needles at all, but she did my IV so gently and with so much care. Then Kat, the third nurse, took me to the procedure room she was kind, calm, and very professional. Dr. Michael Block, the anesthesiologist, was excellent. He actually texted me the night before to ask if I wanted to review everything ahead of time or on the day of the procedure, which I really appreciated. We exchanged a few messages, and then he spoke with me again before the procedure and explained everything clearly. He was confident, knowledgeable, and very reassuring. In the procedure room, I fell asleep within seconds and woke up quickly afterward feeling great. Within about 30 minutes, I felt completely fine. I was even able to take calls and respond to emails. And now, about Dr. Hobson ,she is truly a 10 out of 10. Honestly, the entire experience was 10 out of 10. From the office to the surgery center, every single nurse and staff member was exceptional. I'm a very detail-oriented and perfectionist person because of my job, so I don't say this lightly. He listened to my concerns and gave me recommendations, as well as carried out the procedure. I love that the procedure of rubber banding internal hemorrhoids is done at their office rather than at a hospital. It's fast and painless. The consultation and procedure were done during the same appointment and was $250 out-of-pocket. So glad to have discovered this group!

I didn't have a great deal of interaction with the doctor's, but the staff's behavior was absolutely appalling...cursive (short), demeaning, dismissive of my concerns. Truthfully, I was so naïve...I had the perception that medical staff were empathetic...I had just the opposite experience...just horrible :-( In retrospect, I think this was a positive thing as I want nothing to do with this organization :-) At the time though, it was utterly shocking...keeping in mind I was looking to try and keep healthy as I'm over 55 & the preventative procedure I was working on befalls many in my age group. When my insurance wouldn't cover my medication--which would have cost thousands of dollars--she went above and beyond to help me get it for free. She's always been patient and thorough, never rushing through appointments, and takes the time to answer all my questions. Recently, she also saw my mom for a colonoscopy and provided the same level of care. She was incredibly thorough, answered all of our (very anxious) questions, and made sure my mom felt completely comfortable throughout the process. Without us even asking, she ensured that all the staff present were female, knowing that we are Muslim and prefer female providers. That level of thoughtfulness and respect meant so much to us. I appreciated that Dr. Kutty was a very clear communicator - I fully understood what the procedure involved, the risk factors, and the incident rate in which something may go wrong and I liked that she was honest about her success rate (which was extremely high) but also about very small times where patients had issues after the procedure and what the game plan would look like in those situations. I left the consultation visit with clear instructions on how to prepare for the colonoscopy; there's not much to say, it went well, no issues at all. I also got pictures of my really clean colon too! Given the other reviews mentioned about this place, I was very fortunate to have someone with great bedside manners and honesty like Dr. Kutty to handle my procedure.

Lots of false information, made me get a bunch of tests that had adverse effects on my health, and then cancelled on the appt after 3 months of me waiting. I have been having health issues for almost all of this year. My PCP referred me to a GI (this place). I called got make an appointment in Aug and was told the soonest they can see me is Dec. When I asked about other locations even if they are farther, she booked me for an appt in Oct. I had travel plans and I had to rearrange them for this. My health is already not good, but I had to get 10 blood tests + another set of tests in the same, and a CT scan before my appt. This led to me becoming very sick, experiencing additional health issues, and my hair started falling out from losing that much blood. They also made me do a ton of paperwork. When it came time for the appt - they CANCELED OVER TEXT! It was so stressful for me, I had to lay down and my pain increased 10x. I called and had to wait 1 hour before I could speak to someone. She said they canceled my appt because they didn't take my insurance. This lady was extremely rude and essentially said that if my condition is life-threatening, then I will just die. It was incredulous. However, this does not make sense! The referral department told me that they send out a referral requests, then individual practices can choose to reply that they will take the patient. This place had all the info about my health records AND my insurance when they accepted my referral. They lady lied. If I had taken the Dec appt, I would not have known until then! I now don't know how long it will take me to get a new referral processed and then making an appointment with a new place. I truly may die before I see a specialist!
