My 2003 Z71 Silverado has the infamously problematic 4L60-E transmission, that has banged, jerked, and clunked while shifting since the day I drove it off the lot, new. Well, because I have always driven it gently, it made it to 17 years old & 115K miles before losing 3rd & 4th gear (the 3 / 4 clutch pack). Since driving around in 2nd gear wasn't a solid option, I did an online search for Transmission shops in Duluth GA, and was pleased to see the high reviews for AAMCO Duluth, and decided to give them a call. I made first contact with Ron, who is honest, straightforward, and set me up for an appointment, and he was also the point man throughout my repair, keeping me up-to-date on progress, estimates, expected completion, and it was a very positive experience from start to finish. They gave me repair options, told me how many days to expect the repair to take, and actually wrapped up a bit sooner. The shop location is excellent, and the customer care was quick, friendly, and professional. The place is clean and they take pride in what they do - it shows. Generally, I'm not one to make a fuss one way or the other, but AAMCO Duluth deserves two thumbs up, and the team there deserves a real pat on the back. I was referred to this team by another local auto mechanic. Ron, RC & Steve were all terrific. I had a stellar experience here and, as a single female, I felt this team was looking out for me and making sure I had excellent service at a very reasonable price. 1. Professional Treatment - from everyone in the office from the moment I stepped inside the door. I was cheerfully greeted. They worked me in for diagnostics quickly. And even gave me a reminder call the day before. 2. The diagnostics - took only 1/2 day and they checked many things to be sure the problem was truly only the transmission. Ron was frequently in touch with me updating me on their findings and my options. He took time and thoroughly explained how and why my transmission was acting up. 3. Transmission options - Ron went over my various options of rebuilt transmissions and the warranties each offered. When I asked for his opinion, he gave it, but he never pressured me to choose one way or the other. He left it to me to decide. 4. Scheduled for work - I was scheduled quickly at my convenience for the work to be done. Ron told me to plan on a week, but it might take less than that. The work was done in 3 days. They had checked and replaced a small (and inexpensive) part on the brakes that needed replacing (which I had already known about). 5. Pricing - I thought was very reasonable and fair. I looked up the transmission prices and I was charged exactly that for the transmission. The cost for the work is standard. I felt I got very fair pricing. I made an appointment for 9 am Monday to have transmission fluid changed. The person I spoke to asked if I'd be waiting and I said yes due to having no other car and 3 kids with me so he said fine. I arrived on time to find a different guy telling me that they wouldn't be able to look at it until 4pm! What the hell are appointments for then if they're going to park it all day? I said forget it and took the 3 kids and went home..waste of my time and PO'd. Don't waste time making an appointment here. They were not very accommodating to a 73 year old grandmother with 3 kids in tow! read more

I brought my 2001 Honda Accord to AAMCO because it had been shifting a lot and the "Check Englne" light had been on and off since January 6th. The good thing is that they're Honda specialists and Trust Dale Certified. Ron and Tim were wonderful and once discovering that the issue with my transmission was internal, Ron even took me through the garage to show me a rebuilt and a disassembled transmission and to explain exactly what was going on inside of mine. They quoted me a price of $1,800.00-2,200.00 and stuck to it. My car is back to normal now. I'm not surprised that they've done really well over the years. The only reason that I'm giving them four stars is because of their lack of communication with me. I was expecting to have the car back by Tuesday, but got it back on Thursday evening. For each one of these days, I had to call and ask them if my car was ready. No one called me to give me updates or inform me that the parts they needed weren't in. All the more frustrating was that I was paying a rental and getting charged ridiculous late fees. The guys at AAMCO offered to pay the difference on the charges, but the point is, they should have been courteous enough to call me and let me know WHAT was going on, WHAT was delaying the completion of the job and WHEN I could expect to pick my car up. read more

Long story short... my parents spent near $8000 to resolve a jerking & bucking issue when their Lexus RX300 shifted. After a remanned tranny from Aamco in South Carolina, wheelsensors from Lexus Dealership in SC, replacement computer from a 'specialist' that Aamco in SC recommended the problem still existed. I got involved took the car to Aamco Duluth, worked with Tim and his crew. After replicating the issue while the tech, Jerry, rode with me the problem was found and fixed that evening. Tim called me for permission to drive the car home to validate the fix and called me the next morning to pick it up. No more problems since. A corroded ground wire was the culprit and I learned the $8000 for parts and labor my parents spent was in vein. Hats off to these guys for taking ownership of this mess and having the expertise, patience and analytical skills to get this issue corrected. This is not an endorsement of the Aamco brand. This particular shop's management and techs are who I'm endorsing and recommending . Aamco's corporate consumer relations never returned my parents many calls and the Aamco shop in SC took my parents money, but never took ownership of the problem and gave my parents the run around. Maybe Tim and his crew could provide some lessons to Aamco corporate on customer service and teach the Aamco shop in SC about proper diagnostics. Ohh... Aamco-Duluth didn't make a dime on this repair(warranty). read more

What can I say? I came in on a Monday because my transmission was acting up. Turned my Honda Civic in and there around 11am there were able to fix it and have my car ready for me by 400pm. They test drove it just to make sure it was working properly. I believe I was given a fair price and their customer service is on point! They recommend I come back to have them look at my brakes. Yesterday I experienced a slow acceleration on my 07 Dodge Nitro. I immediately thought it was a transmission issue. Went online and made an appointment with Aamco Duluth. I came to this location because of the Trust Dale certified and great Yelp reviews. First of all, they greet everyone with a hello and handshake. They also make sure to explain everything to you before the work is done. After waiting a short time, the owner Steve sat down and explained that my transmission was fine. It seems I have an engine issue. And Steve clearly states "not my specialty" He didn't try to oversell me on any extra services. Tim also was great going the extra mile by calling the dealer and seeing if I had any service still under warranty. These guys are great! Take your car there with total peace of mind! read more

If you have a luxury vehicle -- take it some where else or monitor what they do. I asked for a transmission fluid flush it was never done and an oil change (which WAS done). I took it to my uncle a couple weeks after (he was an automotive tech) and had to re-do it for me as the tranmission fluid wasn't flushed, so basically I almost spent $300 dollars for a synthetic oil change. Oh and last thing, these people are terrible with keeping you posted on whats going on with your car. read more

AAMCO repaired my transmission over 4 years ago. I have a 2007 Toyota Camry. It is still driving like a charm. I recently brought my car back for a different matter (alternator) and, once again, they got me back driving around again. I find them to be honest and they do quality work. Such a great experience and would recommend this location to all in need! My car started having issues and I took it to the dealership to run a diagnostic check. The dealership charged me $200 and told me that repairs would cost $7000. I took it to AAMCO to get a 2nd opinion and they were shocked by the quote from my dealer. Not only were they super friendly and accommodating, but my total came in $2500 less than the dealership. I dropped my car off on a Monday around lunch and had it back by mid-afternoon Friday (for a new transmission, breaks, and coolant). Britt and the other gentlemen in the office are so friendly, so kind, and made it much easier for a female who knows nothing about cars but doesn't want to get taken advantage of financially. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! A co-worker of mine had a serious transmission issue and I recommended she take her vehicle to Aamco based on the high quality of service I've had at with Aamco stations. The Aamco office in Duluth Ga took her vehicle in and did a preliminary assessment on it. They found that the manufacturer had an extended warranty on it and sent her there to have the repairs done. They could have easily not told her and done the work, charging her a lot of money. Thankfully they are an honest shop and value their customers. Would have done better finding someone off the street cause I had to bring my truck back twice for same issue and would've been a third time cause now my truck leaks transmission fluid and can now have serious other issues so I do not trust to bring it back here...They take advantage of you if you have a warranty and they create issues for you to keep bringing it back. Crooks My vehicle had no leaks before it was brought to you guys and it was kept there 2 weeks and even though you "say" the warranty company sent a bad transmission ok but why now my car have 3 major leaks that wasn't there prior to me bringing it to ya'll. Never was I informed of a leak until the 2nd time a week after it been sitting at your shop. Which ya'll used a half a tank of gas and added more milleage to my vehicle and I can prove that and further more why would you put a broke transmission in a vehicle. Shouldn't ya'll have diagnosed it to make sure it was working properly??? No slandering this is all facts! You don't do the work on the vehicles to see what's being done! Never have I seen one job cause 3 other problems and yes after ya'll work on it and kept it an additional 2 and a half weeks so ya'll kept it over a month...For me to get it back the third time and it still has 3 leaks..That's not good business! I brought my vehicle in for a transmission job and paid for the motor mount that ya'll suggested and now I have to go to a more professional shop to fix the damages ya'll caused! Dear Mr. Owner Steve I'm not sure why your people are lying to you which also makes me question what type of employees you hire not one time did your employees tell me anything about a water pump I asked them how is my water pump and they said we don't know we didn't check that. So how are you private messaging me now saying it was a water pump???? Your folks did not say anything about a water pump I even asked how is my water pump he said I don't know he didn't check it. Granted I was not charged but I also don't like to be lied to you should be questioning why they didn't charge me if in fact they did a diagnosis, I'm guessing they saw the year of my vehicle an 06 and decided they did not want to touch it. I don't know what other reason they would do that. You are saying they told me it was my water pump and that's a flat out lie. I am an honest person and pride myself on that and I do alot of reviews, I'm not out to ruin anyone's reputation if they'd told me it was a water pump why did they quote me over 1500.00? My truck was experiencing a torque converter problem. AAMCO quoted me $1900 to $2400. Another mechanic gave me advice that fixed the problem for less than $50. I realize the fix might be temporary (but so far so good and it's been a week), but it would have been good if AAMCO gave me the same information, to troubleshoot the problem in steps rather than jump to the big quote. read more

Ron and Tim are a couple of the best guys I've had the pleasure of dealing with, willing to take the time to explain things if you have any questions, provide an honest estimate with competitive pricing that is generally between 2/3 and 3/4 of dealership prices. They've done excellent work for me and I've been quite satisfied with this business for my transmission and basic automotive service and repair needs. The work is done right and they stand behind it should you have a problem. Took our 2003 car into AAMCO due to what we thought was a transmission gone bad - sounded as if the car wouldn't go past 3rd gear (automatic) and anything over 40 mph felt like I was being held back and the tranny straining. We called several places and AAMCO in Duluth told us to bring it right in. We needed to leave it so they could do some diagnostics to try to figure out how bad it was. We were told there would be an $85 bench fee which would be applied to any work should I decide to get it done there. That sounded reasonable to me, so I agreed. I was really expecting the worse case as the car has nearly 200,000 miles. Ron called us back in a few hours to give me the news.. Ron told me that the transmission was not the issue; that it was the front wheel bearings making the noise and keeping the car from accelerating smoothly. I was unconvinced as I was sure it was a transmission issue. When I came to pick it up, Ron asked me if I'd like his mechanic to go with me on a ride to help explain the problem. Their top mechanic (over 35 years of experience) took myself & my wife out for a test drive and showed us how the sound and feel were similar to bad transmission, but then showed us by making sharp turns left & right how the bearings impacted the feel the of car. We decided to have the bearing done by our own mechanic who had replaced the rear ones as we weren't sure if he had also done the front & thought they may be under warranty (they were not). Ron sent us on our way with a smile and NO CHARGE for the bench fee, saying he was happy it was the transmission since it would have cost us a lot more money. Great service, friendly people throughout their business and very upfront & truthful as to the problem. He could have easily charged us the bench fee since we didn't have AAMCO do the work to replace the bearings. Instead he just asked that we think of them the next time we needed work done! AAMCO in Duluth will be the first place I take any car with transmission problems and maybe for future maintenace. Highly recommend this family run business should your car need work - the team they have is top notch. A 5 Star rating goes to Ron, Tim and Steve and all the mechanics at their location!!! I had my car towed there to see what was going on with it. When I walked in the office at 8am,there were 2 men in there. I explained to the older man what was going on with my car then the younger began telling me some of the reasons. While he was telling me this the older man was looking at him like he wanted him to shut up. So I get the free engine light check then they told me they'll do a diagnostic check but it could take a while & they would call me when finished, so I took a Uber home. After about6 hours I called them because they hadn't called me. The older man started telling me that I needed a rebuilt transmission that would be $3,000. I said NO & towed my car back to my house. I had another mechanic come out to look at my car and he stated that my car was far from needing a rebuilt transmission & its only a part on the car that needed to be fixed for $600. I will never go back to Aamco because I knew something was up when the older man was looking at the younger man funny like he wanted him to shut up but guess what Aamco wont be getting my money! read more

I love these guys! They were very pleasant. My Chevrolet truck had to be towed here, and in less than a day these guys were able to diagnose my vehicle with engine failure. On top of that they even went the extra mile to find out that my vehicle was still under warranty with Chevrolet instead of trying to take money from me. That's hard to find these days!
