Great food at a reasonable price! Excellent curries and friendly staff. I'm surprised that more people haven't discovered this restaurant.

Five of us came here for dinner and two of us came early and they came by and served us water while we waited for the rest of our party. 3 of us ordered the Dhaba Special with butter chicken, lamb korma, and the chicken jalfrezi while the other two ladies ordered the chicken tikka masala and the fish madras. We all asked for spicy and the only one that was slightly spicy was the lamb korma which ended up being my favorite! With the Dhaba Special ($30 with minimum 2 people), you will also receive a small serving of chicken tikka and a vegetable spring roll as well as raita with several dips before your main comes. Come hungry because we already starting to get filled up but we persevered. The waitress was nice and asked us if we were ready for our mains before bringing them out. They brought out our rice in adorable bowl/cup. The curry was delicious, especially the lamb. Flavors were excellent with the almonds and spice. The butter chicken was a little sweet and then the chicken jalfrezi came with onions and capsicum was very tasty. The naan wasn't my favorite. It wasn't a little too thin for my taste. I am spoiled by traveling to India and living in Japan (yes, Japan has great Indian food!!). We were stuffed and couldn't finish all our food. Service was pretty nice. It was a bit cold and the door kept being left open by departing customers. After my friend got up from her seat and closed it five times, they started making sure the door stayed closed. They took all our food off our plate and didn't ask us if we wanted to take any home. You can BYO Wine for a $5 (per bottle) corkage fee. Great location in West End and would definitely go back.

However, I have been to many Indian restaurants in other parts of the world, including the area of London famous for Indian food, so I believe my opinion can be trusted. And my opinion is that this is a wonderful restaurant with delicious food, a great atmosphere and wonderful service. I went with one of my friends who only likes Butter Chicken, so that is what we had, along with Naan Bread. Butter Chicken is always fantastic, and it was in this instance as well. It was a very enjoyable evening; I really have only good things to say about this place. The meals are moderately priced, around $20 for a dish. They offer excellently valued lunch specials so if you're lucky enough to be able to escape the office for a relaxed midday break, this is a great place to go.

They actually have Chicken and Prawn Pakora's, not just the normal onion as well. The mushroom chicken and the beef sultan have got to be on your list to try, because the beef just disintegrates in your mouth and the spices are so so dainty you just want to keep eating them even when you're really really full. For breads, the naan and the roti for the wholemeal eaters are a great partner to your curry. Wouldn't really recommend going to the toilets there, it's kind of outside in a shed.

Then you think 'I'll just get takeaway' but you can't face the greasy, ignorant teenagers that are never happy to see you at Macca's or another family meal deal totally lacking in any nutritional value.. Well - guess what! Sultans Kitchen at Clayfield have amazing food that tastes good, is good for you (well better than Macca's anyways) and all available through a convenient drive-thru - Yay!!! The mixed grill is my pick of the menu. You get three different varieties of shish, creamy mashed potato, rice, turkish bread, dip and salad - Yummo! If you're dining in (which I highly recommend the decor is just beautiful) I recommend the Mushroom Sote. This vegetarian dish is absolutely delightful. A bowl full of tender mushrooms sauteed in a rich tomato and herb sauce and served with a side of rice - good for the soul.

The buffets are finished now and that is a great thing because the food on the a-la-carte menu is really good. We ordered a Tandoori platter and a couple of vegetarian curries which were excellent and a cut above the average Indian curries which usually taste the same. We found pieces of cinnamon and cardomom pods in the sauce and the naan were actually cooked in the tandoor oven. The poppadoms and rice are complimentary too which we really appreciate after paying as much as $5 for a small serve of rice. BYO is a plus too! 29 April 2017 We've been a few times for the Friday and Saturday night buffet, which at $20 per head is really good value for money. The curries are too a bit too mild for our taste (more suited to the Australian palate) and we don't think that they are cooking the tandoori chicken and naan in the tandoor oven any more. We probably won't go back again!

The service is friendly and the wait staff are excellent with small details like keeping your water and wine glasses filled up. The restaurant is comfortable and is elegantly decked out in red and yellow. It makes for a lively eating environment. They've got most of your classic Indian dishes here. The great part is that if you want something that's not on the menu, if they've got the right ingredients, they're happy to make it for you (at least this has been my experience). The Bhoona Beef ($15.90) and the Chicken Jalfrezi ($16.50) are highly recommended. Just to let you know, there is also Goat Curry ($18.50) which is divine, if you like caprine flesh. Wynnum Road has a few places that make for good eating, but in my humble estimation Scherhazade's guarantees you the best bang for your buck.

Not sure if that's usual for a Sunday night but it worked in my favor. Placed my order and paid. Chose to sit outside, it was a nice night. Though the table is next to the road, it was a fairly quiet evening. Food was brought out within 10 minutes or so. Everything was hot. The naan was soft and pillowy. Rice was the perfect texture. The butter chicken was so good. And the sauce was just the perfect thickness. Also, I love when restaurants give a carafe of water so I don't have to ask for refills every 10 seconds.

I ordered the Patak Curry with rice for $10 which was really very good. Excellent flavor. My son (17) ordered the lemon grass chicken curry and he surprised me by not only ordering something I've never seen him eat (he's from Utah, USA), hell, he loved it, too!!!! As a side, we had the fish and chips. I know right? Odd offering from an Indian joint, but it was fantastic. Prices were right on par with everything else we've been trying. Granted, we aren't very high maintenance eaters, so it was all around the $10/ dish range, and with the currency conversion it worked out to about $8 US. They take credit cards, too. The service was great. They were pleasant and patient with our indecision about what we wanted. This being our last night in Brisbane we likely won't be seeing Masala Art again, but I'm damned happy we got to enjoy it once.

The dishes still have a lot of spices and, yes, chilli too but those well versed in authentic Indian cuisine will know the difference. Not that this isn't authentic Indian. It is. Just a little tamed down though. I only give this place 3 stars because I feel the price can be a bit high for the serving size. However, on Sundays to Wednesdays they have a pretty good dinner deal. For $20 per person (for 2 people) you can get a vegetarian or meat appetizers, two curries, one large rice and two pappadums and two pieces of plain naan bread. Also, if you order a curry before 2pm weekdays they will give you an order of plain rice for free. The place has a good atmosphere and would make a good place for a date night or a casual get together, though the best time to be there would be for dinner. I did experience a bit of a wait for the food to come out even when it wasn't too busy but I don't know if that's a norm or maybe they were just being more attentive. Still, I think this is a good place to try out if you're in the area.

Let me explain. If the menu says 'Hot' it's usually a hedged bet. They don't want to hurt the pride of spice-posers who think they can handle the heat by dishing up something that they can't enjoy, so usually its medium at best. You can remedy this by dropping a wink and the words "Indian hot thank you", but you might get more than you bargained for... Where does the steak come in? Well similarly, some people might think they like their meat bloody only to be turned off when it comes out and it's actually a little raw in the middle (that's right guys, that's what rare means). So the consensus-ruled restauranteur usually ups rare orders to medium rare... Anyway, I wanted to test the accuracy of Ruby's Chillies' spice barometer, so I ordered the Sindhi Chicken 'Hot' (note not "Indian hot") and was pleasantly surprised to be served a curry with a genuine kick of heat. The sauce was a rich tomato and onion gravy, the chicken thigh pieces were flavoursome and well-sized and I left with a pleasant lingering burn in my mouth. Well done Ruby!

Managed by a lovely Gujarati family, this restaurant is true to the Mumbai style of street food (Mumbai's the boss of Indian street food anyway) and features crowd favourites like masala dosa, utthappam, vada pal and samosas on the menu. The Gujarati influence in the food is very noticeable where pickles and preparation is concerned. As Gujarati food is mostly vegetarian, you know that you are getting your money's worth with wholesome fare. I often see them shop at our local farmer's markets and it's assuring to me knowing that they use fresh vegetables in their kitchen. Of special note is the thaali they serve - it comes with the softest chapatis I've had. I also loved their aloo parathas - bursting with potatoes and well-kneaded dough. It doesn't offer much in the way of service or ambiance; it isn't even particularly clean. But I'm all about the food, and they deliver. The menu includes a range of tasty fried things, most of which I've sampled at this point. Many of these chaat items aren't easy to find. Highlights include a dabeli (a potato-peanut burger) and dhokla (some kind of savory chickpea flour cake with super spicy toppings), but I've yet to pick a bad one. For main dishes, their thali is one of the best food deals I've seen around Brisbane, offering no less than four curries, rice, three pieces of bread, some garnishes, and a bit of dessert all for a low price. To eat anything more than that, you have to be seriously hungry. But don't neglect the rest of the menu. A range of street food items, from dosai (crepes), idli (rice cakes), channa batura (fried bread and chickpeas) are delightful in flavor even before you add in the onion and chilli on the side. I still have yet to try their Indo-Chinese dishes, but I am reasonably confident that more delicious pictures are coming. Everything is vegetarian (and reasonably vegan-friendly if you ask), and you'll leave full for cheap. I often stop at their adjacent grocery store as well, where I have picked up a few Indo-Chinese items, as well as some snack foods and spice mixes. There are bigger grocery stores out there, but I like the selection at this one enough, and it makes for a convenient dual visit if I'm on my way back to the city.
