Rather than the sort of place you go to for a pre-going-out meal, Aagrah is the kind of restaurant that offers you such a brilliant dining experience, that you'll probably find it IS you evening out, rather than just a preliminary eating venue before you hit The Wardrobe, or another swanky bar in the area. Right next to the BBC Leeds building, Aagrah is a rather impressively large restaurant, with a modern, tasteful interior. They have managed to fuse indian cuisie with a posher dining experience. there is a bar area that you can sit in whilst you wait for your table. There normally is a wait due to its popularity. Drinks are notably rather expensive, with 2 large bottles of Cobra fetching over £10.. Larger tables include a 'lazy susan' which makes food easier to share. The food is fantastic, and the staff are very helpful indeed. Any questions or special requests will be received well, and they are happy to help. This includes providing us with a Phall to see who could eat the hottest curry as a prelim to ouur actual meal.. The final bill only totted up to £60 for 5 of us. This was a pleasant surprise, particularly due to the dining surroundings, you would be forgiven for thinking it would have cost more.

Chicken biryani was overrated and expensive and the interiors are just tacky giving the vibe that they are trying too hard

Poor quality customer service, I complained to the manager but he did not give the impression he could care less.

This handy Indian restaurant just below the West Yorkshire Playhouse and opposite the Wardrobe is a great place for late night post-theatre curry.

Out steps Shai Nan Kebab! I have been coming here for Kebabs and take aways for at least 6 years and have never been dissapointed. Sadly, last year it was closed for a spell after a fire destroyed most of the inside yet the new place is bigger and better than ever. Most of the skewered kebabs are kept in the chiller fridge for you to salivate over, as well as a great selection of Pakoras/samosa/bahji's. There is nothing done to any of this food in secret- the kitchen is all open plan as well as the prep area so you can see the cleanliness of the food/utensils/staff/prep areas. The skewered kebabs are cooked fresh to order in the tandor so there is a bit of waiting for your order but hey, who doesn't appreciate a wait when you can get to see the life-cycle of the food you are going to eat. The chapatis/rotis/naans are all freshly rolled and cooked to order so again, no 'kept' food. The menu is quite accomodating for most tastes- kebabs/curries/chicken/burgers/fish/chicken portions and then a new selection of desserts and ice cream shakes. Personally, we usually go for the 'Shai Nan Special kebab' which @ £7.50 offers chicken, lamb, shish.donner and masses of salad all wrapped in a freshly griddled naan with lashings of chilli and yoghurt sauce! Definitely one to open the top button of the jeans for! The Mr and i popped by here Sunday eve and got a Lamb tikka naan and I just had a craving for the donner meat and chips- absolutely spot on for both. Even after a 20 min wait we were still happy. Like i said, there are a lot of Take away shops on this shopping parade yet I've never considered trying any of the others as Shai Nan has never let me down and with the regular staff, open-plan kitchen & prep area and a great reputation I can quite justify driving out of my way to go here as I'm guarenteed to get exactly what I want-without fail!

The price list does vary favourably for takeaway against eat in and you also benefit from free poppadums & pickles! A very good selection of meat & veggie options across starters and mains to keep everyone happy. I haven't tried the desserts due to eyes bigger than my stomach on the prior courses. There aren't any windows in that bit, you know, and it's not entirely condusive to a pleasant dining experience. Another couple arrived after our starters had arrived and were seated in the same bit but had the common sense to ask for a different table - we didn't think of that... The food, though, was superb. It's not a lavish menu in terms of the quantity of dishes, but it's got a straightforward selection of genuinely delicious dishes. No greasy poppadoms and chewy naans here, thanks very much. Reasonably priced and good service means it's a good choice for a curry in LS7, just make sure you get a good table.
