I agree with Reeny! Shabab's is how an indian restaurant should look, with jingly bells on the chairs and shiny menus and velvet everywhere.

So, I've finally had the pleasure. After many a moon of folks telling me this off-the-beaten-track…read moregem is worth seeking out, opportunity knocked this Tuesday when a friend chose to have her birthday meal here. I have to admit, as soon as I saw the location I was delighted. It's no more than a 15 minute walk or so from Hyde Park, so easily navigate-able, and stands proudly on the corner. Once you get inside the warmth of the place (literally) and the staff greet you immediately. We were something like 20 strong, and had to wait for a table to finish before we could sit, so stood a bit awkwardly in the entrance - not that it was CC's fault, but as a group there's not quite room in the waiting area. I've heard that in times gone by they'd send folks over to the pub across the road in that kind of scenario, but that has been turned into a Tesco Metro. Sad times. We didn't wait long though, and soon enough piled into our seats. The waitresses kept us well watered with water and drinks orders throughout the night, which was a great touch. I wasn't boozing so particularly appreciated fresh water being replenished without having to ask. As we were a big group, the put on a set meal for that, and so first came a selection of dips and poppadoms. I wasn't a huge fan of the yoghurt dips, as they were a bit tart, but that's just me - everyone else adored them. As well as regular poppadoms we also had cumin seed ones. Next up came starters, which consisted of various battered delicious bites, and some minced lamb kebab type bits of meat, and tikka chicken pieces. All of those were excellent. In particular I liked the battered potato and tikka chicken - it was cooked to perfection and not in the least bit dry. Lastly came the mains. We had a selection of about 10 different dishes, maybe more, and all dived in. You guys, these were the kiddy. This was the one. So, in the end I only tried a few dishes before feeling utterly stuffed, but I had a lamb and mushroom dish, medium spiced, in a red (tomato?) sauce. A chicken and mushroom, which wasn't quite a korma, but had a delicious flavour and cream based sauce. Those two were the stand out for me, but we had all kinds of veggie, spicy, and other going on. Not a bite was disappointing. All freshly made. And the naan?! Sugary! I can't tell you how much this made sense once you mixed it with the curry. Just trust me and go with it. Basically, I've found a new favourite in this family restaurant. Why not five stars? Well, I've only been once, so ought to go again just to be sure. But every bit of this is fantastic. It's not fancy, but it's cosy, the staff are amongst the friendliest I've experienced in Leeds, and the food is exquisite. Oh - and the price? £15/head for that banquet!

We went along for a banquet option, and although I could almost say we started off with the usual poppadoms & pickles this wouldn't actually be true! The poppadoms were made with lentil flour so were totally Gluten Free and tasted delicious! Following this we were served with a very generous mixed starter including onion bhaji, mushroom and potato pakoras, shami kebab & chicken tikka - all tasting amazing! Then onto the mains, as much of a squeeze as it was to find room for them, we had a wide selection of different curry dishes (with my personal favourite of chicken & mushroom) and the lamb dish was cooked to perfection. Not only was the food impressive, but the personal attention from Kate when we arrived and the friendly waiting staff all made the meal really enjoyable.. and finally rounded off by a visit from the chef & co owner Karim dropped by the tables for a chat. I'll be back here as often as I can!

The price list does vary favourably for takeaway against eat in and you also benefit from free poppadums & pickles! Service has always been good & knowledgable staff are always on hand to give advice and recommendations. A very good selection of meat & veggie options across starters and mains to keep everyone happy. I haven't tried the desserts due to eyes bigger than my stomach on the prior courses. Definately worth a visit!

There aren't any windows in that bit, you know, and it's not entirely condusive to a pleasant dining experience. Another couple arrived after our starters had arrived and were seated in the same bit but had the common sense to ask for a different table - we didn't think of that... The food, though, was superb. It's not a lavish menu in terms of the quantity of dishes, but it's got a straightforward selection of genuinely delicious dishes. No greasy poppadoms and chewy naans here, thanks very much. Reasonably priced and good service means it's a good choice for a curry in LS7, just make sure you get a good table.

Fingers crossed it's temporary, since they were my absolute fave, but there have been a few things not-so-right of late! I will say, however, they're still the only place I know of who do butter chicken, which is delish. Firstly, the time before last there was a weird unidentifiable item in my butter chicken. I couldn't be sure, but it seemed the texture of fish - maybe crab or lobster? It didn't affect the rest of the dish, which I devoured, but I didn't enjoy that. Then I ordered raita to go with some other bits, which was really just not very nice. And lastly, a few days ago I attempted butter chicken again and the sauce was a lot more watery than usual. Not terribly thin, but much less creamy. Sad times! Despite this, I think one last chance is in order. I did love them so much before, after all. Or maybe I need to actually try a different menu item for once, and branch out...

They offer free delivery and accept cash only payments. They quote 45 minutes for delivery, but normally our delivery comes in about 30. I think the delivery time depends on how far you live from them though and I think i live on the edge of their 5 mile delivery radius. The food always tastes like its been cooked fresh and it always arrives piping hot. We've tried their Nan Kebabs. They have both kinds of kebabs if you prefer your kebab in a pita bread. Their nan bread by the way is awesome. I recommend the Chicken Tika Nan kebab. It's enough food for two people and is very nice. It's full of succulent chicken and veg. I cant eat a whole one - but it does hold up to reheating. It wasn't greasy the next day. We also order the meal deal for two which has their huge samosas. To be fair there is enough food in this meal deal for four people. We always have leftovers for lunch or dinner the next day. Overall the food is excellent and the price is right. Their service is also friendly and prompt. They offer a 10% discount to students & nursing homes when requested. They also have a 10% off on collections over £20 - but this excludes meal deals and set meals. Free delivery in a 5 mile radius to LS7 2PW

Out of the dozens I can think of off the top of my head, only a handful really pleases and satisfies the curry craving. The decor is very modern inside the restaurant, and instantly, you can see that it is very popular with both locals and students alike. The menu is wide, offering your standard curry favourites, as well as other 'specialities'. I opted for a special, and I was certainly not disappointed. The flavours were good. There was just one thing that I and my boyfriend were not really sure of about the place. It certainly wasn't the lack of custom, nor the staff- who were very welcoming indeed. It may well have been the lack of complimentary popadoms at the start of the meal. It is slightly more expensive than your average curry (only just), particularly being so close to Hyde Park. Although the food is clearly made with more care and very tasty, my dish tasted very similar to my boyfriends, prompting the thought that they use the same sauce for everything. With that in mind, I would suggest that you go in a group, to disprove this theory, or to the buffet they serve up on Sunday night, to sample more of their flavours.

It sits on the busy Kirkstall Road opposite the Cardigan Fields complex, and is usually almost full, especially on weekend evenings (best to book if this is your preferred time of visit). Its popularity is due to the fact that it presents hugely tasty traditional Indian and Pakistani cuisine in unpretentious surroundings (true, it could do with a bit of a refurb but it works for me). The meals are very reasonably priced to say that it is clearly cooked by highly talented and experienced Indian chefs, and service is very fast and as polite as it should be. I decided to bite the bullet and went for a chicken madras, which is more spice that I can usually handle, but it went down a treat, especially when washed down with the bottled Indian beer. The naan breads were glorious too. This place really is a cut above most of the rest. I'm a big fan.

Straddling the gap between upmarket restaurant and simple curry house, Sheesh Mahal has all the comfort and service of a fancy restaurant with none of the pretensions, and the food is of a comparable quality to restaurants that where you'd happily pay twice the price. I have visited here on a number of occasions, and over time tried pretty much every vegetarian option on the menu, and each time have found the food, service and atmosphere faultless. A few people I know have complained to me that the décor is a bit dated, and it certainly won't win any prizes for interior design, but if you're capable of ignoring a bit of peeling wallpaper you'll be rewarded with one of the best - and best value - Indian restaurants in town.
