I have a 65 Mustang and was having trouble with transmission fluid accumulating under my car when I parked it, especially over night in my garage. I also had problems starting it and had to hold the lever forward in park for the ignition to fire. I went to AAA Automotive Repair to have both problems taken care of. They kept it over night. I was called the next day and said the car was ready. When I went to pick it up the transmission was still leaking, The Service Writer said it needed major work to correct the problems, but they did adjust the linkage to keep the shifter in parking to allow starting. That I appreciated. As for the transmission, he said it needed to be disassembled and all seals replaced. The price was above my head, so I declined. They charged me $79.00 to check it for leakage and $120 to adjust the linkage. I do believe that was a little steep just to raise the car and inspect for leaks. I also believe the adjustment fee was also high. I do not know what Shop Labor was, but I should have inquired before I aloud the work. I have to eat the cost. I will not be returning in the future. I don't to like to give unfavorable reviews, but I belive Yelp wants honesty and I call it as I see it. read more

Took vehicle in for state inspection and got a call saying sway bar link was just hanging and to pass inspection it would cost $240. Told em to put rejection sticker on it as they were not going to rip me off. Basically as photo shows just needed to put end into bracket and screw a new bolt on. Not sure how they came up with $240. They also said it passes now but sway bar bushings would need to be replaced and quoted $400 something bucks. Bushings are not expensive and doesn't take long to replace those. Place is sketchy with mechanics looking for work to make money for the business, but if you want to blow money and over pay then this is your place. read more

Today my 24 year old daughter went to this shop with her AAA membership to have a tire with a nail in it plugged. Her plan was to leave the tire overnight so they could patch it tomorrow, which we have done before at other AAA shops. She explained this to the AAA representative. She arrived at approximately 5:15pm (according to their website the shop is open until 6pm). The AAA representative told her that the staff had left at 4 (remember, the shop is open until 6) and refused to remove the tire from the back of her RAV4 - something that should take him less than 5 minutes to do - and said she would have to leave her entire car there overnight and pick it up tomorrow afternoon. This would leave her no way to get home tonight or to work tomorrow. We've been AAA members for 19 years and have kept it for the peace of mind we receive from knowing our daughters will be taken care of if they are away from home and have an issue with their cars. This is making me question our need for AAA. read more

While on a very important trip from Norfolk to West Virginia, I started to overheat. I found the shop on Yelp, desperate for a diagnosis and repair as I was carrying temperature sensitive food items for a family member's birthday. They were welcoming and bent over backwards to get the car fixed the same day. Luckily it was an easy fix, but they could have easily told me they didn't have time as they are steady with business. I do not recommend using aaa Williamsburg for state inspection. I stopped by for a state inspection Saturday morning, arrived 15 min before they opened, 4th in line. I was nicely greeted by the service rep at the front desk, pleasant waiting area... But 2 hours later and I'm still waiting. I'll keep this short and sweet.. We dropped our vehicle off for an oil change, picked it up and the key was broke. The MANAGER said it wasn't their fault.. how can it not be?? It worked and now it doesn't. Okay, so after a lot of upper management conversations, they agreed to fix the key. We drop It off and when we pick it up again, the windshield wipers and the fluids go off almost continuously now. So I call upper management again and she wrote me off to someone else.. we took it to another location, Hampton and he said it's the motor ($400). So I just picked the car up and know never to take my car there again. read more

Son's car needed work. Four days of frustration ensued. Called in advance to get a quote and dropped car off Sunday night for appointment Monday morning. Late Monday I stopped by to get it, but they had not started. Was promised it Tuesday. Picked it up late Tuesday, and noticed it seemed to be running rough. Ran a diagnostic on it, which showed a cylinder misfiring. Called and reported issue, and was told it probably needed more work, which made no sense to me. Had to take it back in so they could fix their error. Finally got it back Thursday. Won't make this mistake again. read more

Brought my vehicle in for state inspection. We were told that my light bar didn't have a cover so they wouldn't pass it. Tried to explain to them that VA laws says, if the light is white with a reflective back and is wired to a separate circuit it doesn't need to be covered(46.2-102). He didn't care and wouldn't pass it. Oh well guess I'll take my business somewhere else. read more

I am a widow, I have one car. My brakes went out a week ago and I called AAA to have my car towed to a facility. The operator suggested AAA since I would get a discount on parts and labor and since the Williamsburg AAA has a car care center. I said, go for it. What resulted after that decision can only be described as a day where my guardian angels must have been by my side the whole time. MIKE HUEY called me the next morning, and not only calmed me down, but calmly took care of my every need. And he even waited while I called around and asked for estimates. He got the parts in the same day, saved me some money and assured me that my car was now safe to drive. I ended up having both front calipers replaced, and had to have two new brake lines replaced as well. I could have had a serious accident, considering the fact that my brakes quit on Richmond Road in the middle of busy mid day traffic. Williamsburg has a GEM in Mike Huey and I highly recommend this place for you car needs and for excellent customer service. I work in public contact 9 hours a day, 5 days a week, and have for over 35 years. It isn't always easy, but it really warms my heart to see someone else take the time to treat their customers with respect, and to get the job done. I should have posted this weeks ago and I wish that I had. These gents bent over backward fixing a lingering problem that had become acute on a fussy, particular, expensive car. They researched the issue assiduously, problem-solved until the sun went down, and made absolutely sure the car was right before releasing it back to me. I have been a AAA member for 10 years and have used the auto care center service in other area of the country with confidence and satisfaction. Today was my third attempt to get service at this location. To date I have tried to get my tires checked, annual inspections and a headlight bulb replaced (today's issue). The service center at this location provides poor service at the front desk/on the phone, I have never made it past this stage. When they finally acknowledge that you are waiting to see when they can work on your car (we were the only people in line at the desk manned by three service people today) they will tell you they are really busy and can not tell you if or when they can assist. Not sure whether they intentionally try to discourage customers but the negative way they deliver this information has turned us away each time. Seems like they are overwhelmed, which does not bode well for quality of work. Sadly, we end up just going to a dealership. read more

My family and I have used AAA for years, we have always received the absolute best service. This past week my sisters car had some trouble shortly after a routine oil change, she called them right away and they said to bring the car in. Unfortunately she blew a head gasket and the car is 13 years old. GM Mike gave us his advice and told us to sit on it over the weekend to decide what was the best solution. We appreciate the honesty we have received everytime but especially over the last week. We will continue to use AAA for all our vehicle needs. read more
