I heard long ago that an old trick is to gain your trust by pointing at rust at the bottom of the…read moreheat exchanger and frighten you into believing that it's leaking carbon monoxide and that your family will die tonight. Kreitz played that game right to the letter. What's actually occurring is (according to three trusted sources) that your A/C got low on freon, this causes water to condense and freeze. When the freon is fixed, the ice melts, which causes a little rust, and it's all perfectly harmless. He also needed a week to replace my furnace (it was 40 years old). I looked up his business address on Google Maps/Street View (try it). I tried repeatedly for four days to speak to someone about cancelling my appointment but could never get anyone to answer the phone. Worst of all, the old man's son was tagging along, so he's being taught this scheme. If we hadn't had to wait so long, or if he would have just loaned us a small space heater to get us through the cold nights, we might have had Kreitz do the job. Instead, I went to Home Depot to buy a heater. While I was there, a contractor happened to ask me as I was walking by, "Would you like a quote on a furnace?" Instead of a one-man home-based operation, I dealt with a large professional state-wide organization. The whole thing was over in less than 48 hours and on a Saturday. I paid more there. But the fact is I need reliable, long-term support and satisfaction for decades to come, not a lowball price. And a reliable furnace. And they gave me a very nice Nest thermostat.

I had a very disappointing experience with VinTech, the first company assigned through my home…read morewarranty to service my GE Monogram built-in refrigerator/freezer. Both my refrigerator and freezer were warm. The VinTech technician came out but stated that he could not access the freezer panel and recommended that the entire built-in unit be pulled out. This was extremely concerning to me. The refrigerator is a built-in GE Monogram, and the components needed for diagnosis and repair are accessible from within the unit. There is nothing behind the unit that would logically require it to be pulled out to access the freezer components. I requested a second opinion through my home warranty. The second technician was able to properly access the freezer, diagnose the issue as a failed freezer evaporator fan motor, and replace the motor--without pulling the built-in refrigerator out, all in 1 hour. The difference between the two service calls was significant. The second technician was able to complete the diagnosis and repair that the first technician said could not be accessed. If you have a high-end or expensive appliance, particularly a GE Monogram, I would not recommend allowing VinTech to service it based on my experience. I would strongly recommend requesting a different service provider rather than risking an incorrect diagnosis or unnecessary work to the appliance. I am grateful that I requested a second opinion, because otherwise I could have been left with an unresolved appliance and an expensive recommendation to pull out a built-in unit unnecessarily.

On January 31, 2026…read more When we experienced several days of sub zero weather the furnace went out and we called Mechanical Heating and Cooling to access my furnace which had stopped heating the home. The technician came out and said he couldn't properly diagnose the issue because the inducer motor trap and secondary heated exchanger was filled with ice and they couldn't properly diagnose it until the furnace thawed. The technician said twice that if I called back within 30 Days we wouldn't have to pay an additional $99 service fee. The $99 service fee we paid on January 31 would cover the 2nd visit cause they couldn't properly diagnose the problem. I called mechanical heating on February 23, and was told I would have to pay an additional $99 for the technician to come back out. I asked to speak to a manager and he told me they would not honor what the technician told us because it was not their policy and they didn't care what he said that I would have to pay another $99. And when I challenged them, they yelled at me and hung up On me. I didn't call back because it was useless, but not only the tech that came out but the manager that I spoke with Were , both rude and disrespectful. When the tech came out, I had to stop the tech from talking down to me and to listen to the questions that I had and the manager was yelling at me over the phone saying he wasn't gonna pay shit. A lot of companies don't operate with integrity these days and some of them look down on you depending on the condition of your home and a lot of them overcharge you in the first place because they know you don't have that skill set. I'm just so sick and tired of dealing with unethical, rude disrespectful technicians. It took me a while to write this because it was so traumatic. I didn't expect it. I would give zero stars if I could.

Sul Salam was the technician who came to my home to address the issue with my furnace. He was incredibly friendly and professional. He identified the issue with my furnace right away. It didn't take him long at all to diagnose and fix the problem with my furnace, and he actually spent the vast majority of his visit on the phone with the warranty company.
