There are some bad drivers in this town.

Been a member for years. Today I arrived to register two vehicles. They do certain DMV services but you have to pay by check or cash...no cards. But you don't have the hassle of going to the DMV! Plus the place was air conditioned! I could have stayed all day and looked at travel guides!

Actual bait-and-switch AAA offer of a beverage holder

BAIT-AND-SWITCH The Automobile Club of Southern California has been running an infomercial offering an annual membership for $55, waiving the joining fee, and offering a $25 Visa debit card. When I immediately went to their advertised website (aaa.com/tvgift), it had switched the $25 Visa debit card for a beverage container. This is a classic bait-and-switch scheme. I phoned the number they advertised (866-252-3480), and the customer service rep knew nothing about a $25 offer -- instead he offered me a "free" second membership. Another bait-and-switch scheme. I complained to AAA through a number of contact points. Only one responded, and I was asked to provide proof -- which I did by sending screenshots. AAA replied by admitting that the offer is valid, and that it can be obtained via their website. This is a lie, and it's the original reason I complained. They also explained that the beverage holder gift is a "substitute offer" (bait-and-switch). They also claimed that the Visa offer is a limited "while supplies last" offer -- but the ad clearly states it's a "limited time" offer. In either case, they should not be running a campaign that offers something that they already know does no longer exist. $25 is not a big deal, but it's very disappointing that a reputable company has to lower itself to deceptive schemes in order to obtain unwitting new customers.

I will not use names in this review as it is not my intention to hurt them but to report what my experience was so readers can make an informed decision. If you have mobility issues, please use a travel agency that understands and caters to these specific issues. SBT does not and it was obvious based on many issues including the location of some of the hotels, and certain arrangements that they did not complete. After the initial contact, I waited one month without contact and had to call and email them to get a response. The bottom line is that another agent took over. I was relieved until I found out that the original agent was doing most of the work. The new agent was on a three-week vacation during the planning and contact was not easy. Due to the original agent's lack of understanding or experience, the plans were incomplete, not what we wanted or more importantly not what I needed. As far as the train arrangements for wheelchair service, I was told they were made but they were not. When I emailed them from overseas regarding this issue, I was emailed the information and told to contact the service on my own. It was so bad that we skipped using the train two times and hired a taxi instead at four times the cost of the train. Three of the five hotels were on severely sloped streets and were so sloped it was impossible to use a wheelchair. Also, I had asked for all hotels to have an in-house restaurant and 3 of 5 did not. The final hotel was at the airport, and I was told it was in the terminal. It was not in the terminal and to make it worse there were no shuttles to the airport from this hotel. I do want to give you the positives, the second agent recommended a Masseria to stay in, and it was great, and we truly enjoyed the experience. He also recommended a restaurant in a cave and that was seriously awesome too!! Honestly, the entire experience with SBT was so frustrating. The day before the trip started, I was still desperately emailing them to finalize plans for the trip. There is a lot more that went bad but there is not enough time to cover all the issues. I wish I could recommend SBT, but I cannot. Sadly, I will be looking elsewhere for a new travel agency.

She found just the right trip for my wishes and helped me through the process from start to finish, i.e., arranging for a timely passport, ways to get to the ship, what the costs would be and finding the right insurance. I was confident that she would prevent me from making mistakes as a first-time traveler. The whole experience was very exciting, if not a little nerve-wracking because of my inexperience, but she shared the enthusiasm with me and made everything happen! Thank you, Tina, for this first-time experience, I will be back for more trips to be arranged by Santa Barbara Travel!
