I also did a quick search to see if a Mazda CX-5 was considered a Standard SUV at Budget/Avis and it came back with: "No, at Budget/Avis, a Mazda CX-5 is classified as a Midsize/Intermediate SUV, not a Standard SUV. Budget specifically lists the Mazda CX-5 under its "Midsize or Intermediate SUV" category." I did not order a Mid-Size. I ordered a Standard SUV. I was not going to take this rental car and unfortunately they did not have any other car available. This was the point when the employee assisting me, Angel Otero, escalated the situation. He argued about the car size while processing my refund. And when I had questions about the refund paperwork, Angel became increasingly confrontational. I told him that he should not speak to customers the way he was speaking to me. His response was: "This is how I speak to idiots." For the record, I have rented from this location before and had a great experience with the owner. Which is why I chose to rent from here again. Unfortunately, my experience this time with Angel was enough to assure I find a new car rental spot.

My reward for staying inside my condo during a rainstorm on September 18th was wire damage under the hood. The outside claim company is called PurCo, and charged me for repairs to the wires, 10-day loss of rent while repaired, admin costs, and diagnostic cost totaling $6,758. I asked PurCo if cars rented by Avis already have their own insurance to cover these repairs. No answer. I asked if the repairs have been paid already. No answer. I asked if these were the actual cost of repairs. No answer. I was not in the car when wires were damaged. I did not take the various insurance costs that Avis offered, because it would have been an extra $53/day! I was not negligent with this car, but I am expected to pay $6,758 for damage to wires during a rain storm, when I was not in the car. PurCo represents many car rental companies for over 30 years. Beware of outrageous car repairs and other fees.

Uber was 50% more. Lyft was about 20% less, but wouldn't allow for a pre-scheduled ride from EWR. I was not comfortable with a chance that there would be no one available for my 11:30pm pick-up. Al texted me the day before my travel day to confirm. I called him when I arrived. He told me where to meet the car/driver, in 5 minutes. 4 minutes later, the car pulled up. It was clean and comfortable. The driver was extremely pleasant. He allowed me to decide what music to listen to. It was a quiet ride out to the country. I would not hesitate to use Bernardsville Taxi & Limo again, and strongly recommend them.

The driver came flying down my street, doing about 45 (in a 25 zone) and screeched to a stop in front of my house. When I got in, I asked (quite nicely) if he could drive carefully as I was in pain. The driver immediately began yelling and cursing at me, saying "Your f*cking pain isn't my problem! Do you want me to stop here? You can get out and call a f*cking ambulance!" I kept my cool, but a few minutes later, while doing 65 down Route 202 (which is a 40 zone), he began texting. I asked (again, very politely) if he could please wait until we arrived at the destination before texting while driving. The driver totally flipped out and started screaming and cursing again. I didn't respond, instead I just closed my eyes and prayed, because at that point we were on 287 and he was doing 92 MPH; I was afraid for my life. When we arrived at the hospital, I paid him, sans tip, and he was FURIOUS. So much so that his screaming and cursing brought the security guard from the hospital outside to see what the problem was. The minute the driver spotted the officer, he took off like a bat out of hell. Of course, I called the Bernardsville Taxi & Limo office to complain. The response I received was completely unsympathetic and the woman I spoke to behaved as though this wasn't a very big deal. What a disgusting way to do business.
