This is the second time that we have used the AAA McDonald Tree Service. We called them back because the first time they came they gave us such great care and attention. We were not disappointed this time either. After this last winter storm in February a big limb on our tree came down and we called Mac about 8 o'clock in the morning and left a voicemail. He came by about 45 minutes later and told us he had six emergencies he had to take care of, but he wanted to take our limb down before it came down on its own. He did that and then went on to do his emergency services. He came back one and ahalf days later and completely took care of it and one or two other problems we had. He and his crew were professional, efficient and completely took care of our beautiful trees. I will always call them in the future. I highly recommend Mac for all of your tree needs. After searching and reading some reviews I decided to call McDonald Tree Service. Vernon took my info and showed up for an estimate an hour or so later. I found his pricing quite fair and hired him right away. A couple hours after that he showed up with a crew and knocked it all out. And it looks beautiful. So let me paint a picture for you. Its 8am on a Saturday morning. You are feeding your kid breakfast when all of the sudden a HUGE, GARGANTUAN, tree limb comes crashing down against your house & garage basically encompassing your backyard and power lines completely in tree parts. I really do not think I can adequately describe in words how full of tree our backyard was. I mean...what do you even do??? Its a Saturday! Luckily a friend told us to call Vern McDonald of AAA McDonald Tree Service. He was out to our house in under an hour and advised us we needed to get this taken care of ASAP due to the danger of the tree on the power line. Within 30 minutes he was back with all his tools, his crew (it was their day off but they came in anyways) and a big ol' crane. They immediately took care of the emergency areas and advised they would try to return the next day to complete the job. Sure enough...8am Sunday morning they all returned with their HUGE wood chipper and more tools. They quickly, efficiently and safely finished the job and gave us our backyard back. We were extremely impressed with Vern & his team. If you EVER need any work done with trees (emergency or not) I strongly suggest you contacting these guys. They were professional, quick and delivered great service when we needed them the most. Great job! Recommended by a friend. They cut down an entire giant (dead) elm tree that was right over three utility lines, removed a large maple branch that threatened our electric line, removed some other branches on more trees. A professional, seasoned crew with modern equipment, very safety-oriented, well-trained, smart, conscientious, friendly, helpful, strong, quick. Removed flowers at the base of the tree so they could be replanted (without being asked). Did a great cleanup. Arrived 5 minutes early, finished in less than two hours. Mac was great. I had to trim a neighbor's tree that was touching the roof of my house to satisfy the city inspector (cert. of occupancy inspection). Mac arrived on time (actually earlier than he promised) and was able to handle the job on very short notice. Professional, neat job at a fair price. I am writing this review not as a customer but as someone who had a run-in with the owner himself today as he and his company were providing tree removal service for someone in my neighborhood. Long story short, the owner displayed very inappropriate behavior to me as well as in front of my young son. I personally would not want to give business to this man solely based on the communication I had with him in which he verbally assaulted me. While I cannot speak to the quality of his companies work, I want my neighbors and community to know that his man did not show the type of behavior that would make me recommend his company. read more

Hired them to cut down a few trees after Mac's quote was lower than others I received. He cut down a large tree in our front yard like a lumberjack (just sent it crashing to the ground) without telling me that was going to be his method, which would explain why he was cheaper that the other companies that quoted the job. The impact of the tree hitting the ground tore up our yard a bit. When I complained to Mac, he became agitated and confrontational and said he would come back later to fix the yard. He never did. He also never came back to remove the remaining trees and never returned phone calls about the remaining work. read more

During a strong storm, a section of our apple tree split off. We thought we would lose the whole tree, but Mac said he could remove the broken parts of the trunk and shape up the part of the tree still standing. We also had a crab with a lot of dead wood and he said he would clean and shape that tree also. We are thrilled with the results. He far surpassed our expectations, as both trees look better than they have in many years. Beware of this guy.....Vern originally quoted 1,800 to remove our tree (quoted twice and even had one of his guys drive by to look at it - so he knew what it looked like). The day of the tree removal, he suddenly wanted $2,500 instead........he proceeded to do the job without my approval for any price increase and then when he was done I paid him 2,250 (more than half of his sudden 700 increase). When I handed him the check, he got all angry at me and stomped off cussing under his breath....what a loser! Don't hire this company. He was lucky I paid him anything over his original quote......and he never came back to put my fence together either...I had to do it myself. Great Job! I got 5 different companies to quote a job where I wanted a 75 foot Japaneese Maple tree removed from my back yard. There's not a whole lot of room in my backyard at all, and the tree was surrounded by electrical wires. AAA Mcdonald came out and did the job in half the time the others were quoting and half the price the others were quoting. The 4 other companies said it was a 2 full day job, yet AAA Mcdoanld showed up on time at 10:30am, and left at 5 with only a stump to grind. And this was a huge tree! Awesome company to deal with! We had an emergency situation with a dead elm that started to drop huge limbs onto the side walk. AAA was called and Vern came right out and assessed the situation. There was another huge limb that was split and was going to come down any second. He called another worker to retrieve some equipment and come out right away, which he did! Vern didn't leave until it was safe to do so. He then came back 2 days later and took the rest of the tree down. He made a few special cuts for us that we didn't even ask for. Every member of his crew was very nice, polite and professional. When they were done and started cleaning up I said you guys have done enough, we'll take it from here with the clean up and they refused. If it wasn't for the tree gone, you would almost not know they were here. I already some other trimming on a live tree that I am going to have them do. I highly recommend Vern and his crew!! read more
