Very happy I gave this mechanic shop a try. Vehicles are out of my personal knowledge base so I…read moretypically have my husband make decisions with me. After bringing my Trailblazer here I would feel completely comfortable making the decisions on my own. (see photos) They give a comprehensive file with pictures and additional insight to the problems, which is extremely helpful. There were a few questions I had about a couple recommended issues and Pete (who completed my inspection report) was able to clarify them with ease and honesty, so I was able to save money on not having to do that repair. It was more of a riding comfort suggestion so it wasn't a big deal since it doesn't bother me. I received a link to the reports via text and e-mail. For the estimate, you can go down the list, which included each cost, and just click "approve" if you want it done which is very convenient when you are at home. If you have questions call! Like I said above they are very easy to talk to and there was never any feel of pressure. Being pregnant during COVID is a concern but the inside was very clean including the shuttle service vehicle and I was very comfortable being there. They have a drink station there or Dunkin Donuts is next door. I also thought it was neat that they have a big picture window with bar height stools and counter that you can watch the mechanics in the shop. I don't think I've ever seen that before. After the repairs, I called around for other pricing estimates and CBA was around what others were. Some areas were less and some were slightly more. One being the fluid flushes. CBA was about $20-30 more expensive. I am a fairly frugal but I would still choose here versus saving $20 somewhere else, especially if you are getting other work done which could equal out the total price. Plus, you have the photos to prove why the repair needs to be done versus someone basically telling you to trust them.. This is now our first choice for automotive repairs. Good job Christian Brothers Auto, you exceeded my expectations.

Negative: lack of weekend times means you need to make transportation arrangements if you work 5 days / week. I took in my son's 2012 Sienna for struts, front-end work, and a transmission drain and fill (not a…read moreflush). I had changed the radiator and told them that I lost some transmission fluid, so it might be a good time to change the transmission oil. Our son had trouble within the week with the van shifting irregularly and making noise. It has been a couple months and it has gotten to be a danger to drive. Linear says it needs a new valve body assembly ($5K) and Toyota says it needs more than that... a new transmission ($7K)! The van drove absolutely fine until Linear changed the tranny oil. In hindsight I've learned that they shouldn't have touched the transmission oil other than to top it off. Firestone for example will not touch the tranny oil on a vehicle with over around 120K miles on it. Subaru says they do not do "flushes", only drain and fills. Linear tells me they didn't do a flush, but who knows. The Car Care Nut guy (on-line) with some 25 years of exp working for Toyota say do not change the oil if the vehicle has over 100K and has never had it's trans oil changed. Linear, the professionals, should have asked me if this Sienna had ever had its tranny oil changed and I would have told them...likely never. Our son's Sienna has 168K and now needs a new transmission and of course they take no responsibility and simply say, "You asked us to change your transmission fluid." They also replaced a clutch on my 2001 Miata. They told me it was ready to pick up and when I started it, it sounded like the exhaust had fallen off. They hadn't tightened up the bolts underneath the car! As well, the booty on the stick shift was cracked, the shifter was busted and the shifting was very sloppy (a plastic bearing of sorts was broke), and the shifter ball spun around! A couple weeks later I found two screws in my center counsel compartment that were not holding down the center compartment. It took three trips in to get it "ready for pick-up"! I learned that Tony, the mechanic had left the company (or was fired?). It has been very stressful for our son and his family of four young children. So much for having faith in the initial referral from Slims Automotive in Andover, MN.

The engine in my son's 2012 Hyundai locked up a couple of weeks ago, so my son had it towed to Complete Auto. It was going to cost between somewhere in the range of $4,000-$6,000 to replace the engine, and he still has a small loan on the car. The team at Complete auto (Nick & Matt) did some searching and found that there was a technical service bulletin (TSA) on his year and make of vehicle that addressed the engine failure. Long story short, they suggested that we have it towed to a Hyundai dealership to see if they would warranty it, and...THEY DID! Complete Auto "could" have not told us about the service bulletin and possibly had a big pay day. It's very hard to find that level of honesty in ANY business these days. They might not always be the cheapest, but they have my business and recommendation because of their quality work, honesty, over-all value, and willingness to help people out in any way possible. Thanks guys!!

When buying a used car you need to have them inspected. The first car I brought in needed a new oil pan & the tires were going to need to be replaced. Andy's didn't recommend getting that car. The used car dealership didn't care. So, I walked. Found another car and after just looking at the Carfax report they didn't recommend it. Third time was the charm. Brought the car in, they could not find anything wrong with it. Then they pulled the Kelley Blue Book recommended pricing & told me where to start with the negotiations. The dealer met me in the middle on the discount. We took care of the paperwork and she has a car.

Still, Pep Boys has a special way of getting under my skin which is such a bummer! Because this shop is huge and close to where I live it comes to mind first when I need air in my tires, car inspections, or other quick service that can't wait. What I can't understand is why I keep going back when the service is so disappointing. The other day we were planning on going for a drive and realized my boyfriend needed an oil change. We didn't want to drive a ton before changing the oil so we stopped into Pep Boys to see if they could help. We spent 5 minutes standing in front of the guy behind the service desk staring at him before he acknowledged us. Then, once he started helping us he didn't seem to know what he was talking about and suggested the wrong type of oil. Finally, in the middle of talking to us he took a phone call. Needless to say we walked out and won't be returning. I gave two stars because they did put air in my tires and get my Lyft inspection done quickly on a separate occasion. I just can't get over how I always feel like an inconvenience as a customer even when I don't need anything that requires much work on their end. I really hope that eventually Pep Boys becomes a place people feel comfortable and welcome walking into.
