Every vehicle year, model and trim has a manufacturer recommended tire size and the rubber is priced accordingly. I won't bore you with name brand, tread design and seasonal properties but these factors also changed the cost formula. Generally speaking, the more rubber that's used to make your tire, the higher the cost. There was a discount of $130 on the set of four. Add the $16 ($4 each) tire levy and $79.96 ($19.99 each) for mounting & balancing. Wow! $307 per tire when all is factored in? Yes! If I'm fortunate, I won't have to do this again for the rated 100,000 km. Why only 4 stars? Costco Tire Centre didn't have the tires in stock so it was ordered. The tires arrived and they didn't phone me at all. I happened to call 2 days after the shipment arrived and then waited another 2 days for an appointment. White knuckle time!!

Now, it was a crazy long wait, unfortunately, but that's my fault because I waited until the snow fell, just like so many others. The place was packed - people sitting around waiting for their cars, there is a constant phone ringing somewhere and you could see the service orders all lined up on the counter. I waited for my turn and was pleasantly surprised with the customer service I received. Being as busy as they are, the gentleman took the time to explain the different tires and the quoted prices. There was no pressure to buy on the spot. Their prices are very fair. Unfortunately they were not able to accommodate an installation date til much later than I prefer so I booked my installation elsewhere. But I would definitely be back as their tire storage program is very competitively priced.

Sensing that something was up and I was about to be fleeced, I searched around Ajax for different mechanic shops. I settled on Master Mechanic in Ajax because the customer service was incredibly professional, friendly and caring. We spent time over the phone going through all the suggested service options that my dealership insisted I needed, then we booked an appointment. The day of the appointment, I was greeted in the morning with a cheery smile from the front desk staff, they offered coffee and immediately took my car in for service. It turns out that I actually didn't need to go broke, I just needed an oil change. Waiting in their very clean and well lit waiting room, it was quiet and had a nice relaxing atmosphere. However I didn't stay there very long as my car was serviced and returned to me within 40 minutes. It turns out that the winning formula is friendly and speedy service backed by good costs. I will be returning.

A loose oil plug, which could have been disastrous if left unnoticed, has cost me much more $ than if I would have taken it to the dealership. My advice to this shop, spend less time on multi point inspection looking for problems that don't exist and concentrate on the purpose a vehicle is in your shop. I can not wait around for a 4 hour appointment on-site, rather than just taking my car for drop off at the dealership. Appointment availability was not great. It would probably be better if they could offer shorter appointment lengths and online booking so you could fit it into your calendar (if yours is a busy one like mine). Oh well, too bad it didn't work out but it is not worth the effort of trying to email back and forth fitting a 4 hour appointment with no guarantee of service like a dealership, for the same price.

Had the front/rear rotors & pads done on my 2009 Odyssey back in July 2022 for approx $700. Ivan…read moresaid he used Akebono coated parts which are suppose to be a premium product that I've used in my other vehicle with excellent results. The following spring, with only 10k km on these rotors/pads, I started to notice brake performance decline with it not really biting and needing to apply a lot more pedal pressure to stop properly. Brought it back for Ivan to inspect. He said rotors had a lot of rust, however, they were all suppose to be coated which greatly increases the time for rust to form. So, for rust form so quickly and so severe to affect performance in just 8 months and with only 10K Km since install....that just doesn't add up and Ivan wasn't able or willing to offer anything (possible defective warranty etc) other than to resurface them for an extra $100-200. That really didn't make any difference. So, I ended up going back to my regular guru who replaced all the pads with Power Stop shortly after. Fixed it and it was 100% better. Not sure if the issue was with the parts, the installer or a bit of both. Things just didn't make much sense to me and Ivan wasn't really taking any initiative or making any effort help me other than charging extra to hopefully remedy my issues. Lesson learned...Will keep to my guru from now on.
