I took my car to Kyros Auto in the spring for some routine maintenance and was advised of an issue…read more It made a lot of sense, and matched issues I had observed, and I proceeded with the repair work. After the work the car was driving like new. So far so good. About 6 months later, time to change to winter tires, during which I was told that a component of the stuff they repaired in the spring was showing early signs of wear and they would replace it under warranty. I bring the car in for that, and afterwards the car steering seems weird, weird enough that I think it's unsafe to drive. I return but get no resolution. During a conversation a few days later I find out that when they replaced the failing part under warranty they used a part from another manufacturer, and claimed it was better. Perhaps, perhaps not. They replaced it again with a new one from the first manufacturer. The steering is still as weird as before. So the part is not the problem. I finally find out that the mechanic that worked on it in the spring is not the one working on it now. I was basically told to go to another garage to get it fixed. Obviously they don't have a good mechanic any more. What a waste of time.

I'm very picky about customer service, especially when I observe how people treat my elderly parents (wanna see how good customer service is somewhere, see how they treat the elderly...). We've been served by both Jim and John, who I believe are the two proprietors, and they've *always* been exceedingly accommodating and understanding. *Case in point: One of our cars had a major problem. We called, and John offered to take a look at it, free of charge same day. He did, then explained how difficult it would be to locate and fix the problem (probably something with our power steering that would require taking out parts just to diagnose the actual problem), suggested that it probably wasn't worth paying to fix (13 year old car), *and* he topped up the power steering fluid so the car would run for at least another week. Which it did. This was amazing because: a) He didn't charge us anything. Period. b) All of this was business between just him and my 62 year old Mom, who needed convincing on what to do with the car (I was worried she would get taken advantage of, and I wasn't around to help her). c) He told me what kind of auto fluid I could buy if my Mom wanted to drive the car a bit longer while we buy a new one, where to pick it up, and that if I brought the car and fluid back, he would top it back up free of charge. I really don't know what else to say. They're always very busy with customers getting winter/summer tire changes, and we've never had payment issues or concerns (the times he actually charged us!).

It was a very unpleasant experience and I will never go back again. The auto shop does not take appointment for tire change and is on a first come first serve basis, so I walked in like all other people. When I said I was there for winter tire change, the person (I later found out his name was Joe) at the front desk said "So does the rest of Richmond Hill". He later said the wait would be 2 hrs and I said I would wait. When it was time to pay, I asked if there was a discount if I paid cash. His snarky response: "I should be charging you more for fitting you in". You did not have to fit me in. I could go elsewhere, on a different day. Both comments were uncalled for and very rude. I noticed that his attitude towards others (men) in the shop was different.

No monetary-value goes into a fancy waiting room or coffee machine. Summary: If you wish to pay for honest, economical and high-quality automotive services Gilman Auto is for you. If you wish your hard earned cash to pay for gourmet coffee machines, a fancy waiting room and a premium garage (with potentially inferior service), go to a dealership. Full Review: Welcome to one of the best and respected local mechanic shop in Scarborough Ontario. Raymond Lee has over 30 years of experience in automotive repair, maintenance, performance modifications and customizations at fair prices. In fact at first sight you will be turned off by the humble industrial unit, crumbling tiled waiting room floor, and half-naked calendar girls hanging on the walls. As you peer through the door marked "customers cannot enter work area" you will be shocked by the mass of car parts stacked on shelves and the floor, the hanging florescent lights and the foreboding presence of mechanical chaos. If you have the stones to refrain from judging this book by its cover, you will not be disappointed. Gilman Auto has a large "fan-base" of intensely loyal customers throughout the Greater Toronto Area consisting of import enthusiasts, club racers and performance fanatics. The reason these folks and yours truly respect and admire Raymond is due to his honesty, high-quality work and the pride he and his staff put into their work. Not only does he provide quality service for a fair price, he stands by his work. Unlike the dealerships Raymond's bread and butter is repeat business and word-of-mouth recommendations to friends and family. Additionally Raymond doesn't just fix cars, he also competitively road races (in a recreational capacity) his own race prepared Honda Prelude as evidenced by the numerous trophies displayed in-store. He knows his stuff, from common (but often expensive) maintenance to full out performance builds on both imports and domestics. Bottom line is that Gilman Auto offers high quality, open and honest automotive services at very fair prices. Keep an open mind and look past the facilities, you'll be glad you did. Oh and for the record no one knows what he says when he picks up the phone ... could be "Gilman" or "good afternoon" or "Mel Lastman". Don't ask, just tell him that Jerry from the Prelude Club sent you :)

Critical: Professionalism, Punctuality, Quality, Value…read moreQuoted 3 week project for my 2 GTRs took: 6 weeks for one - transmission blew because of tune, boost leak because of inferior parts / workmanship, other issues; have all the texts / videos / images to support this review. GTR 1 - built engine and trans After the build and tune: 1. Transmission front case shattered (Craig - Owner did this on his test drive) 2. After the car / project was said to be complete, it seemed to drive great but quickly I found that the gas gauge wouldn't read empty / full accurately, boost gauge reading 15-17 (low) and the transmission gave hard shifts at times. I drove back a week later for a health check and after an update - went out for a data run and blew the tran down the street. Craig completely blamed me. (His texts / the details given to me have been proven to be false, that this was a tuner error) 3. Craig repaired the transmission and replaced the bell housing, sent the car back. 4. I received the car leaking trans fluid, all over my driveway, Craig says that it's residue from the first blow up, that he drove it around and the transmission is perfect. He told me to drive it and let it burn off. Went for a drive, vehicle had a severe vibration and then I lost all gears, pulled over at side of road and all the trans fluid came out. 5. Craig again repairs transmission - replaced prop shaft (saying this too was bent and that is what caused the transmission to open back up and leak), then says he can't locate the boost leak and 3 weeks later - still has not found it. After several interactions including an on-site - I just got fed up with the shops lack of trained personnel, car sitting with no firm plan of action or timeline - and Craig has just become even more rude during his communication with myself and other clients. 6. I finally decided to pull the car out of his shop and took to another and in 1 hour boost leak was found - Craig cut the turbo outlet piping to fit, gorilla glued and clamped them on - and that's the primary area loosing air. Car also has an excessive oil leak, and other minor low quality connections / fasteners used. GTR 2 - FBO+ 9 weeks for this one to be "completed" 1. Returns to me with under panels missing 8 fasteners, fender liners not installed correctly, steering wheel at 11 o'clock, flex fuel kit leaking. I fix what I can on my own. 2. 4 days later the car won't start, sent back up and over a week later returned with the steering wheel at 10 O'clock, chatter in rear (transmission) and main prop shaft had 4 bolts loose. Call in and they can't work on it for a week - so I take to another shop who adjusts the steering, torqued the 4 bolts on the prop shaft, and funds two coolant lines also leaking. There is so much more. The texts received from Craig with his explanation of how I destroyed the transmission has been reviewed by 2 other very reputable GTR tuners and 2 GTR shops, all of which confirm I've been lied to, cheated, and screwed over by Craig @ MasterTuned note: There are many other issues with this shop, staff and other clients, many clients (GTR ones) that even after being screwed around by Craig, still need him to support their cars = reason you wont see them posting on here.
