Was a pleasure working with Angel and the A-1 team. They came recommended by a coworker and did not disappoint. As part of a remodel we needed several walls and some ceiling drywalled and textured to match the existing walls. Took three days. One to setup, one to hang the drywall, and one to mud/tape/texture. They did their best to protect our house with plastic and paper, and cleaned up after themselves when the job was done. They are clearly skilled at their craft, and did a great job with some tricky spots to make the new walls appear original. Two stars and not one because I got covid from my job as a teacher and our original appointment fell in my quarantine period. We scheduled it for a few weeks later and they were understanding. Otherwise, my overall experience ... well, let's just say I'm going to have to find someone else to come and redo/fix their work. I had some electrical work done that tore into some of the sheetrock and needed patching. In the end, there were some patches that they made seamless, but others ended up just looking unnecessarily rushed and unfinished. When I first was getting quotes, I gave A1 Drywall a chance even though their quote ($2100) was literally double some of the others. I still chose them partially because of their good reviews but also because they explained to me that the job would possibly take two different visits, one to do the bulk of the work and then a different day to come back and do the any polishing, sanding, and touch ups. I thought that made sense and meant that it would be a more thorough job, albeit much more expensive. It all sounded good, but the reality has now turned out to be only one day and them having loaded up all of their equipment before I even got to see their work (they had the doorway completely taped off). As they were leaving, I pointed out a number of the easily-visible flaws or unfinished areas that I was seeing and they begrudgingly appeased me on one or two quick fixes but then they left. All of their equipment was already loaded, after all... The quality of work and attention to detail was just not what I was hoping for (see photos). I wasn't expecting perfection by any means but I was at least expecting them to return with fresh eyes, as we had agreed on, to touch up and fix some of the things they'd missed on the first day. Based on the finished product, it was absolutely needed. Half of the areas they worked on will need further work or to be redone. I was surprised at four areas that they left completely undone with what were for me easy/lazy excuses, "oh we didn't have anything that size to fill that gap" or "we didn't know if you wanted that left that way." What? Why couldn't they have just asked me? They came, did the bare minimum and left. Checkmark. Bye. Communication was zero from when they arrived until when they surprised me by saying they were loaded up and not coming back another day after all. When I contacted their office with photos, I was disappointed at the number of things that they tried to explain away as being things that weren't their job, that would cost extra after all, or that I would have to hire someone else to do (putting caulk in a gap they left between the sheetrock and the floor, putty drywall mud in the gap between sheetrock and a wood shelf, etc.). Wait, wasn't that why I got a detailed quote in the first place? They could have mentioned all the things that their quote didn't include. I mean I wasn't expecting them to paint or anything like that but to bring the walls back to the way they were before they were cut into ... yeah. Other than both the wet and dry mess that I will be cleaning for weeks (that wet plaster does NOT come out of grout and they also got in the LED light switches that they didn't cover), I was bummed to find out A1 Drywall is a bigger operation than I first thought when I was first deciding who to work with. Neither of the two men who came to do my job were the guy I was in communication with over quotes and not the guy who first explained to me what all they were going to do. That would be fine, except they arrived having no idea about the job that was to be done and didn't have all the materials needed to do the work we had originally agreed on, which meant that they did what they thought was good enough without actually completing the full job that I was quoted and that I paid for. I guess that's just the luck of the draw. Now I'll try to find someone else who can finish correctly the parts of the job i can't figure out how to fix on my own. read more

I highly recommend A1. We had them remove the texture (cover it up) across *every* wall and ceiling in the entire home. It's a massive and messy job, and I was still living on one bedroom while they did it. Communication with Christian was excellent. He made sure to set expectations up front (especially with me living there) and to regularly check in with updates. If there were any changes to the timeline, Christian was quick to let me know. Having worked with many sub-contractors, close communication is key to success in any project. The results speak for themselves. Marcos crushed it. The walls look beautiful. We've had other sub-contractors out for more work, and they each have complemented the walls. And it makes the entire place look cleaner and more modern. Additionally I added on some work while the team was here. Christian was accommodating and provided very fair pricing for the additional work. A1 drywall quoted a decent amount. Same as another company. We went with A1. The work was done well however, on the day of completion I realized a hole in the wall behind the toilet. The hole is approximately 4x6. We had plumbers who accessed/replaced all piping in the house. I called immediately and asked to have their worker come back for the hole that was missed. I have called 3 times asking for the hole to be patched as per our agreement. What seemed like a good team with a good price doesn't have any customer service. If you read this and customer service is important to you then don't spend your money here. read more

I'm sad to report that the reviews and photos here are all fake. A1 Drywall is a fraudulent company. Christian and Angel at A1 Drywall seemed really nice and communicative when we first met them. They promised us that they knew how to install insulation and their drywall work was so good that we wouldn't even be able to tell that the wall was ever opened. We were fooled by their great reviews as well. They were very responsive and proactive in telling us the plans and what to expect, but leading up to the scheduled date things started to not be as promised. Their person didn't arrive any where close to when they told us, didn't work the way they told us they would, and also didn't seem to actually know how to do the work. I noticed that the insulation work looked off, and when I brought that up, they just quit without discussion. They claimed they had done it before and never had issues, but my HOA told me later that they admitted when the HOA forced them to come on site for a final walk thru that they quit because they didn't know how to install insulation and didn't have the proper supplies to do it right. They had still finished my ceiling which had been wet still when they ended the job so we couldn't see issues at the time. After it dried though I see clear lumps and raised rectangles in the ceiling. The tape and actual divisions are obvious. I reached out to them, but never heard back. read more

I was worried that punching holes in the wall for electrical work to remove knob and tube wiring would be impossible to fix. I was wrong - A1 Drywall did a FANTASTIC job on the drywall so that I really could not tell where the patches were except for some areas where new paint was needed, and once you paint it over you can't tell there either. They communicate well and they accept credit cards for invoices - I would hire them again. To set expectations on payments: you have to pay when they stock the materials for the job, pay when work is in progress, and then a final payment when work is done. That seems fair to me. read more

I had bought a house that had really bad seams on the ceiling, with 4 four tape seams, joining the Sheetrock, that were highly visible from wall to wall. We needed some minor Sheetrock work done to fill in holes around the area where we replaced three wall heaters. We called a few places but very few called back. One person called and wanted to charge nearly twice what a contractor acquaintance says is the going rate. Another came out within an hour to look at the place and gave me a hard sell. That's two red flags. So I asked if he was licensed, bonded, and insured. No to all three! Finally, I called A1. I texted photos of the three areas that needed repair. Christian at A-1 Drywall has been amazing! He literally saved the walls of my house, as well as my sanity throughout this remodel! My husband and I recently bought a fixer-upper (i.e. a 1971 time capsule) in the suburbs. Every wall (and I mean EVERY wall) had wall paper of some sort on it. After we spent countless hours removing said wall paper, the walls underneath looked awful...gouged, glue remaining, sheet rock paper peeling off...you get the idea, awful. To top it all off, we had popcorn ceilings! I called A-1 Drywall after seeing their ad on Craigslist...I admit I was hesitant because, you know, it's Craigslist...you never know what you're going to get. Chris came out, and gave us a great quote for removing the popcorn and resurfacing/texturing the walls. Since we had gotten at least five other quotes, some for thousands more, and he sounded like he knew what he was doing, we hired him the very next day. As the job progressed, Chris found pretty significant termite damage in one room-no problem. He fixed it. There was mold on the drywall in another room-no problem. He fixed it. At every stage of this job, when there has been a new challenge-no problem; he fixes it! And he has been more than patient when I have had to delay his work due to other contractors not getting their work done on time. He has very quickly become our go-to guy for all our home improvement projects, because as he puts it, it's not only about what you know, it's about who you know. We have a large family room with two exterior walls that we wanted to remodel. The original walls had thin panelling that we removed so we could install insulation. We replaced the windows and sliding glass doors, then added bracing to the walls for earthquake protection and insulated all the open spaces. The result was an uneven surface near the new windows and the door, and we doubted that we could install dry wall and have it look like the long, flat walls we had in mind. We sent pictures of the work we had done to A1DryWall and asked if they could install wall board to finish the wall surfaces - we wanted smooth all along, with no uneven surfaces, ready to paint. They gave us a good quote for the work and we asked them to schedule a time. They were able to get the work scheduled quickly and two folks did the wall board installation and surface work within one day. The result was exactly what we wanted - smooth walls, ready to paint when cured. From there, we could finish the trim and window treatments. It was a pleasure to work with these people - they made sure they understood the result we wanted each step of the way, and their skill was obvious at each step. Excellent work! We had a hole in the drywall ceiling (1'x1') left after our leaking shower sink upstairs was fixed. I called to A1, left a message, and sent an email trying to reach them. It took a couple of days for them to get back to me asking for a picture of the hole. The same day the picture was sent I got an estimate that was VERY reasonable. Immediately signed it and got scheduled for Saturday morning. Early morning (8 am) a worker from A1 came. Put a lot of plastic roll at the working spot and around, and on the ceiling. Started to work. Two hours later we got the hole fixed, texture perfectly matched. I was really surprised how well that was done! Now the patch is dry and even unpainted yet it is virtually invisible. Now I have to get the matching paint from a home improvement store and paint over by myself for free :). That's not a big deal.
