In summary, we had a drainage pipe that was leaking, resulting in damaging the drywall it was behind. Ron, within minutes of entering our home, confirmed our suspicions and quickly got to work, starting with the removal of the severely damaged drywall segments followed by the removal of paint. He doesn't do plumbing, but recommended a plumber that he trusted and partnered with over the years. After the pipe was repaired, Ron proceeded to patch up the wall and prep it for painting. We hired JR Drywall a few years ago to install drywall in a complicated two-story addition, including in and under the stairwell and around a straw-bale-constructed room with exposed beams and columns - and they did an amazing job. We finally saved up enough now to renovate our 81-year-old kitchen, and of course brought these guys back! They seamlessly integrated what used to be a small kitchen plus small dining room. The transitions on walls and ceiling are now as smooth as butter, and they came out right away and completed the work in 4 days. I'm painting myself, but if I could spare the extra cash I'd have them paint as well, because their work is awesome. If your walls have any texture to them, it's important to match it if you don't want the patches to be visible (even after painting). This guy saved my life. And, did it with a smile. I tore down the former lathe and plaster in my living room to bury cables, redo the electrical and insulate. I thought that we could do the drywall ourselves--but have you ever tried to pick up 1/2 inch drywall?? I weighs a ton. Enter Yelp and JR Drywall. Ron was prompt, clean, efficient and CHEAP. We got another estimate for triple what Ron quoted. I thought that at his price, the quality might suffer. But, what really made this whole experience perfect was how well Ron matched the texture on our 1939 home. Ron called the texture "Old World". Whatever it's name, he assured us that when we painted the wall, it would match. And, it did. We've gotten nothing but compliments on the job. I highly recommend Ron. Ron came in and gave me an estimate for my job. I had done the drywall myself and needed someone to do a pro job on the mudding and taping. The quality of Ron's work was excellent. Professional, courteous, quick. He did an amazing job. The only beef I have is with the follow through. He made a big point of saying how him and his crew were very conscientious about tracking dirt and dust. He made it absolutely clear that there would no mess. He finished the job and left, no clean up, nothing. I had to sweep up the dust, mop the floor, and scrape up the dried mud off the floor. I realize it's not a huge deal and I expect some dirt and debris from a construction job. But to make a mess and just walk away after explicitly telling me there would no mess is a big no-no in my book. read more

Nightmare............ Ron of JR Drywall did tape and texture on Phase ! and Phase 2 of my whole hose remodel. Phase 1 went well, his workers, cash guys did fantastic, except I had to sand the work for 2 hours before paint. Ron kept most of the money. What ever. Phase 2 was very scheduled with my family moving out so Ron is up and he increases his quote. What? The movers, painters and floor refinishing were scheduled, what can I do? There was drywall hanging to do and Ron had his pro come in, at cost, cash to him from me, OK. I asked Ron to inspect the job because his independent contractors were coming in the next day. He would not, said "He is a pro". He said get 15 sheets of drywall, I got 17 and we were short 1 one sheet. OK, I go for one more sheet and bring it back, IN THE POURING RAIN, HASSLE. Then drywall guy screwed the perimeter on 12-14 inch centers, the ceilings were hanging down, the walls were to not code! I corrected it with a $25 box of screws and 3 hours labor going back at night to Home Depot for the screws. Does Ron have a contractors license, would it not be printed on his card? NOT. When his laborers are done they call him to get off the couch, and come collect the check. I knocked $50 off the total due (Many thousands of dollars) to pay for screws and he went ballistic? He says to me "I'm taking that $50 off the labors pay and I will never work for you again. Not a quality guy. read more

My husband and I have gutted our house and been rebuilding it by ourselves over the last year. We got to the drywall part, screwed in a few pieces to our janky, 100 year old framing, realized how uneven our walls were, and decided we were just absolutely not interested in hanging drywall, taping and mudding. I called JR drywall and set up a time for Ron to come and give me a quote. The quote he gave was extremely reasonable, and he made sure he understood exactly what we were asking for - he even told me that his mudding guy could fix our cracked crown moulding. We booked with JR drywall; Ron had a whole crew come in and hang the entire house in ONE DAY. A 1500 sq ft house, all of the walls AND the ceilings in O.N.E. D.A.Y. Then he told us it would take another 10 days to do the taping and mudding, and it took far less than that. We were very pleased with the work, and I was especially impressed that Ron ALWAYS answered my phone calls/texts, and showed up when he said he would, which is not something I can say for all contractors. The crew is multi-talented in various trades, saving us lots of money hiring separate contractors for each portion of the work. They performed some tricky demolition and replacement of Bathroom Ceilings and Walls after a water-heater failure in the unit above. This was very time sensitive and Ron and His crew responded quickly to our needs way faster than anyone else. After this good experience we hired JR Drywall for various handy-man repairs and some larger jobs such as painting our whole apartment after replacing old collapsing plaster with new drywall. My 1930 house in Berkeley is has the original lath and plaster interior. The plaster was laid on with a hand-crafted texture that looked to me to be impossible to match. I had a rather large hole in a ceiling that needed patching and Ron from JR Drywall said it wouldn't be a problem. He came back and finished the job in a single day. It matches perfectly. We inherited two rooms with horrendous thick latex textured wall paint - I have stared at them and hated them for two years. The paint is so thick and glossy you cannot sand it down (we tried) but bids for demo and replacing drywall were running around $7k! Ron came over, agreed with our opinion on the walls and said that plastering over would work fine. They also repaired damaged dry wall where electrical work had been done as well as a few other flaws. All for less than half the cost of the drywall install. The overall time to complete took about 2 days longer than expected (due to drying conditions) and I was worried Ron might be tempted to cut corners (as it seems he is always very busy) but my fears were unfounded. The walls are gorgeous - smooth and beautiful. But my favorite part of it all was how well they cleaned up after themselves. Our last contractors were slobs and clearly had no respect for our property - Ron and his co-worker Ambrosio get an A+ for the work done.
