This is an overdue review of JR Drywall. We hired Ron and his team to repair and smooth over the horribly textured, uneven walls in our Berkeley home. And I do mean "horribly textured"--when we bought the house, we joked that the walls in our living room and entryway looked like a lava flow. Ron's team took several days to complete the project. They arrived on time every morning, took great care to protect our floors and furniture, and transformed those large, ugly surfaces into smooth, clean walls that looked like they had always been that way. The quality of their work was excellent, and they clearly took pride in getting the details right. They were professional, careful, personable, and efficient throughout the project, and the finished result exceeded our expectations. And when the job was finished, Ron asked one of his associates to repair small area of the wall in our upstairs bathroom--a detail that wasn't even part of the original contract. That work was also top-notch. Ron and his team far exceeded our expectations. We would hire them again in a second, and we would definitely recommend JR Drywall to anyone looking for high-quality drywall work. read more

I'll start by saying that I 100% recommend Ron for any of your drywall and home repair needs. I've saved his information and will definitely call him again for any future house work or projects that come along over time. In summary, we had a drainage pipe that was leaking, resulting in damaging the drywall it was behind. Ron, within minutes of entering our home, confirmed our suspicions and quickly got to work, starting with the removal of the severely damaged drywall segments followed by the removal of paint. He doesn't do plumbing, but recommended a plumber that he trusted and partnered with over the years. After the pipe was repaired, Ron proceeded to patch up the wall and prep it for painting. His professionalism throughout this multi-day experience was very positive - he shared his thoughts on what happened and why. I appreciated his candor and friendliness. The price we paid for the work was fair and very competitive, something I greatly appreciated. read more

Ron and his team are fantastic. Excellent work and very competitive pricing. I plan on using them again for my next job

Ron, Jose and Ambrosio to the rescue again! We hired JR Drywall a few years ago to install drywall in a complicated two-story addition, including in and under the stairwell and around a straw-bale-constructed room with exposed beams and columns - and they did an amazing job. We finally saved up enough now to renovate our 81-year-old kitchen, and of course brought these guys back! They seamlessly integrated what used to be a small kitchen plus small dining room. The transitions on walls and ceiling are now as smooth as butter, and they came out right away and completed the work in 4 days. I'm painting myself, but if I could spare the extra cash I'd have them paint as well, because their work is awesome. JR Drywall's pricing is almost unbelievably low compared to what many Bay Area trades are charging during this construction boom time. Great skill and value for the cost - and Ron and all his crew are super friendly, trustworthy, punctual and fun! read more

Ron and Ambrosio were fantastic. Highly recommend! High quality work and very thorough. Will work with them again.

Ron & his team do very high-quality work, including texturing by hand. If your walls have any texture to them, it's important to match it if you don't want the patches to be visible (even after painting). The electricians had punched so many holes into our walls that the house looked like Swiss cheese, but after Ron's team got done & the house was painted, it looked like nothing had ever happened. read more

We're really pleased with our experience with JR Drywall. The plaster ceiling in the living room of our 1920's house was cracked and sagged a bit. Ron quickly responded to our request for an estimate and scheduled the work within the timeframe we requested. Jimmy did an excellent job patching the cracks and applying a skim coat to the entire ceiling-- a huge improvement! The two were careful to cover the floors and walls and the cleanup was thorough. We'd previously had JR Drywall refinish the cracked plaster walls in several rooms and we're very happy with the smooth finish. A great job at a fair price! read more

These guys are amazing. Super fast (like, within minutes) response time. Communicates quickly over text. Fit me in last minute on 2 occasions. Showed up and did what I thought would be about 9 hours of work in about 4 hours. Even patched up a part of the house that wasn't in the bid for free just to be nice. Both the owner and the main dude doing the repairs were hyper professional, super nice, and respectful. They cleaned up everything extremely well. I used to do drywall work myself (as an ex-painter) and I have really high standards. They exceeded them and more. read more

We are absolutely thrilled with the job that Ron and his crew did on a patching job in our home. When I first contacted Ron, he answered his phone, came immediately to check out the job, and started the following day. He arrived exactly when he said he would, did exactly what he said he would do, and was communicative and prompt as the job progressed. Frankly, it has seemed to us that even the very best contractors can be unreliable with scheduling and difficult to reach at times. This was not at all true with Ron and his guys. Hands down, the best experience I have had to date with the construction industry. Oh, and the job was done perfectly. The patched part of the wall actually looks better than our original wall! :) Obviously, we would HIGHLY recommend JR Drywall for any job! Love, Sara read more

This guy saved my life. And, did it with a smile. I tore down the former lathe and plaster in my living room to bury cables, redo the electrical and insulate. I thought that we could do the drywall ourselves--but have you ever tried to pick up 1/2 inch drywall?? I weighs a ton. Enter Yelp and JR Drywall. Ron was prompt, clean, efficient and CHEAP. We got another estimate for triple what Ron quoted. I thought that at his price, the quality might suffer. But, what really made this whole experience perfect was how well Ron matched the texture on our 1939 home. Ron called the texture "Old World". Whatever it's name, he assured us that when we painted the wall, it would match. And, it did. We've gotten nothing but compliments on the job. I highly recommend Ron. He's a sweet guy who really wants you to love the completed job. And, we do. Ron doesn't own a computer, so he probably won't even find out about his reviews. But, it's good to pass along a great contractor to the Yelp community. read more

Immediately returned my call, provided a quote and repaired literally the next day. We had a 3x2 hole in lath n plaster from a plumbing leak and JR fixed like it had never happened. Such a great experience, can't thank them enough fir their amazing work and professionalism. Would highly highly recommend! read more

These guys did a beautiful job repairing the drywall in my kitchen behind where I'd removed a backsplash and cabinets, and were really incredible to work with. Ron came out immediately to give me a quote and was able to start work within a day. I was really impressed and would highly recommend their services. read more

Absolutely nothing but good things to say about this company. Their quote was reasonable, the work was top notch (Ron came up with a simple solution to smooth out a ceiling where the original construction left cracks, obvious uneven merging of dry wall segments, etc. They showed up for the repair when he said they would; tthe work is excellent; they cleaned up after themselves so that there was minimal dust, dirt etc from a ceiling repair and painting; the work happened rapidly. And, Ron did an extra small repair that had nothing to do with why I hired the company. read more

Ron and his crew (mainly Jose) did an excellent job on our project. They patched some drywall, filled in a wall that previously had doors, and built a platform for our washer/dryer unit. Ron also has a good sense of humor and will tell you what you need and what you don't. He handled us well when we started getting fussy about overbuilding the platform.... Everything looks great and the quality is high. Highly recommended. read more

We contacted Ron to come and review our space for a large office renovation that we had planned. He called and came out immediately with his on-site leader Jose. He was absolutely true to his word about reviewing our space and plans, and giving us an immediate quote. Then COVID hit and we had to put everything on hold. Bottom line -- JR Drywall and Ron (and Jose) are fantastic and provide immediate results. read more

WOW! We cross referenced reviews from Yelp and Berkeley Parents Network and called JR Drywall. Ron came right out, gave us a really reasonable estimate and finished the job quickly and it looks great!! he did the mud for the living room, hallway, bathroom and bedroom and it came out looking so nice! Besides that, he was friendly, clean...and he patched up some other areas he noticed while he was here. We were impressed by him and will certainly recommend him to friends and use his services again!! read more

Ron came in and gave me an estimate for my job. I had done the drywall myself and needed someone to do a pro job on the mudding and taping. The quality of Ron's work was excellent. Professional, courteous, quick. He did an amazing job. The only beef I have is with the follow through. He made a big point of saying how him and his crew were very conscientious about tracking dirt and dust. He made it absolutely clear that there would no mess. He finished the job and left, no clean up, nothing. I had to sweep up the dust, mop the floor, and scrape up the dried mud off the floor. I realize it's not a huge deal and I expect some dirt and debris from a construction job. But to make a mess and just walk away after explicitly telling me there would no mess is a big no-no in my book. read more

Nightmare............ Ron of JR Drywall did tape and texture on Phase ! and Phase 2 of my whole hose remodel. Phase 1 went well, his workers, cash guys did fantastic, except I had to sand the work for 2 hours before paint. Ron kept most of the money. What ever. Phase 2 was very scheduled with my family moving out so Ron is up and he increases his quote. What? The movers, painters and floor refinishing were scheduled, what can I do? There was drywall hanging to do and Ron had his pro come in, at cost, cash to him from me, OK. I asked Ron to inspect the job because his independent contractors were coming in the next day. He would not, said "He is a pro". He said get 15 sheets of drywall, I got 17 and we were short 1 one sheet. OK, I go for one more sheet and bring it back, IN THE POURING RAIN, HASSLE. Then drywall guy screwed the perimeter on 12-14 inch centers, the ceilings were hanging down, the walls were to not code! I corrected it with a $25 box of screws and 3 hours labor going back at night to Home Depot for the screws. Does Ron have a contractors license, would it not be printed on his card? NOT. When his laborers are done they call him to get off the couch, and come collect the check. I knocked $50 off the total due (Many thousands of dollars) to pay for screws and he went ballistic? He says to me "I'm taking that $50 off the labors pay and I will never work for you again. Not a quality guy. read more

Ron was FANTASTIC!!! He was referred to me by a friend that had repairs done by him and his team. Ron's name is one that I will definitely pass around. He demonstrated complete and total professionalism and expertise. Fortunately, he was able to arrive at my home within a couple of hours from when I called for an estimate. He was able to have his guys come out to start the next day. They were very swift but diligent and successfully repaired my walls that had major damage. Surprisingly enough his rates are priced very affordably. Therefore, you will receive more than what you paid for when having him work for you. Ron is definitely a master at his skill. You can see the passion he has through is work and desire to ensure that his clients are satisfied. He is very polite and easy to communicate with. We have additional repairs that we want to have done and will be giving him a call again. I would definitely recommend him hands down! --VERY SATISFIED!-- read more

Ron is really nice and really knows drywall! We put in a new closet and needed to drywall all around it. He did a great job and gave us a great price. I will definitely be calling Ron again! read more

My husband and I have gutted our house and been rebuilding it by ourselves over the last year. We got to the drywall part, screwed in a few pieces to our janky, 100 year old framing, realized how uneven our walls were, and decided we were just absolutely not interested in hanging drywall, taping and mudding. I called JR drywall and set up a time for Ron to come and give me a quote. The quote he gave was extremely reasonable, and he made sure he understood exactly what we were asking for - he even told me that his mudding guy could fix our cracked crown moulding. We booked with JR drywall; Ron had a whole crew come in and hang the entire house in ONE DAY. A 1500 sq ft house, all of the walls AND the ceilings in O.N.E. D.A.Y. Then he told us it would take another 10 days to do the taping and mudding, and it took far less than that. We were very pleased with the work, and I was especially impressed that Ron ALWAYS answered my phone calls/texts, and showed up when he said he would, which is not something I can say for all contractors. Thank you, Ron and team! I would 100% recommend this company, and would use them again! read more

I was ripping out my hair trying to find someone to come into my home and repair walls after I had some minor electrical upgrades made to my home. I did a Yelp search and found Ron with JR Drywall. He was immediately responsive and came out that day to bid the job. The bid was reasonable and we scheduled a date for he and his crew to do the work. Ron kept me informed during the next week. He showed up on time and ready to work. They did an excellent job and even patched a few extra places for the same bid amount. After my positive experience I referred him to one of my clients home. They were extremely satisfied with the work also. I will definitely use him again as well as refer him to my friends and clients! read more

Highly Recommended. Ron and His Crew do Great work, on time and in a cost effective, efficient way. I manage an old Apartment Building in Berkeley and I am also an Architect doing high end Residential work in the Bay Area. JR Drywall have done several jobs in our apartment units over the years and I have always been impressed with their work and ability to get things done with common sense. They pay close attention to detail, functional issues, logistics and customer satisfaction. The crew is multi-talented in various trades, saving us lots of money hiring separate contractors for each portion of the work. They performed some tricky demolition and replacement of Bathroom Ceilings and Walls after a water-heater failure in the unit above. This was very time sensitive and Ron and His crew responded quickly to our needs way faster than anyone else. After this good experience we hired JR Drywall for various handy-man repairs and some larger jobs such as painting our whole apartment after replacing old collapsing plaster with new drywall. This required some problem solving and working around existing light fixtures etc.. Ron was great in solving these problems as well as performing the work promptly and at a great price. I highly recommend Ron and His crew for various construction tasks not just Drywall. His crew are excellent painters and he called in some help with Minor Plumbing, Electrical and Mechanical related work when needed. read more

Ron Bermudez is now our go-to guy for plaster and drywall. He expertly handled a drywall and plaster job on a bedroom I was ready to paint but couldn't due to plaster/drywall problems from old water damage He calls back promptly and came quickly and gave a reasonable estimate. He's actually a craftsman, concerned with top quality work, and we plan to call him back to handle a much bigger job. He also put mud/plaster on some other problem areas (a spot on a ceiling, several spots in a bathroom) and gave me advice on several jobs I was trying to do myself. His work was timely, quality and very reasonably priced. read more

Ron and his staff did a great job repair drywall damage from leaks and repairs over the years. I was very pleased with job all around. Also, he actually did a physical wall through when giving an estimate. Others just gave a ball park number by my description. I would definitely recommend him. read more

Ron came quickly for a quote on various patches of wall texture that unneeded repaired. After talking a bit, he knew I was very particular about what I wanted after the loser contractors I've dealt with in the past. He communicated he didn't feel he could do the work to my liking. This was appreciated in a time where idiots just want the job and will do any hack job a kindergartener can do. Instead he took the time and showed me a little bit on how to get started and advised me that I could do it myself. read more

We had JR Drywall do our finish work in our entire basement. We hung the drywall ourselves. They were top-rated on yelp, had the best price, and a very quick response to my inquiry. They did a great job. I called them a couple weeks later when we realized they missed a small spot of texture in the ceiling and our tiler messed up a section while filing the shower. They fixed both quickly and for free. I'd definitely recommend them. They are easy to get in touch with, very competitively priced, and stand by their excellent work. read more

Ron and his colleague did excellent work re-surfacing the walls in my condo. Some of the locations were hard to reach and they did a beautiful job everywhere. Ron agreed to do the work on short notice and arrived at the agreed time and completed everything sooner than expected. I thought the price he charged was very reasonable. I highly recommend Ron and JR Drywall. read more

My 1930 house in Berkeley is has the original lath and plaster interior. The plaster was laid on with a hand-crafted texture that looked to me to be impossible to match. I had a rather large hole in a ceiling that needed patching and Ron from JR Drywall said it wouldn't be a problem. He came back and finished the job in a single day. It matches perfectly. I don't give out 5-star rating very often, but these guys get one for sure. I'd recommend them for any job. read more

Ron did an excellent job replacing drywall. Through, clean, efficient, quick. Friendly and gave me some good advice about some other items he noticed. He also patched a few other spots that needed work. He came back the next day to simply check the work. Ron is very easy to work with. read more

Ron is very easy to work with. His prices are more than fair and he is meticulous. Great prices and did a perfect job on our ceiling texture repair. Couldn't be happier!

Ron and his crew were extremely professional. The quality of their work was on and beyond. They took great care to mask and paper the tile floors and to cover appliances and wood stoves. The ceilings are very high and this was an old drywall job that had never been done correctly. They completely fixed all the problems and added a beautiful hand troweled texture. It's a pleasure to work with people with such a good work ethic and happy attitude and good vibe. I highly recommend JR Drywall. You won't be disappointed. read more

We inherited two rooms with horrendous thick latex textured wall paint - I have stared at them and hated them for two years. The paint is so thick and glossy you cannot sand it down (we tried) but bids for demo and replacing drywall were running around $7k! Ron came over, agreed with our opinion on the walls and said that plastering over would work fine. They also repaired damaged dry wall where electrical work had been done as well as a few other flaws. All for less than half the cost of the drywall install. The overall time to complete took about 2 days longer than expected (due to drying conditions) and I was worried Ron might be tempted to cut corners (as it seems he is always very busy) but my fears were unfounded. The walls are gorgeous - smooth and beautiful. But my favorite part of it all was how well they cleaned up after themselves. Our last contractors were slobs and clearly had no respect for our property - Ron and his co-worker Ambrosio get an A+ for the work done. I will use them again anytime we have something like this to be done. read more

I was remodeling my loft and I called JR Drywall for an estimate and was pleasantly surprised at how reasonable their rates were.
