Albert came to repair two leaks in our roof about a year and half ago. One of them relapsed recently. Despite multiple attempts to reach the company, including leaving multiple voicemails, we received no response. So, we had another contractor come out to assess the leak, and he determined that the previous repair job was very shoddy, and had not been completed properly (i.e., the original tile was still broken, and hadn't been replaced, the under layer hadn't been properly sealed, etc). read more

Hired for a roof inspection before purchasing a home by my realtor. Dude shows up and literally just looks at the roof from ground level and say everything is good and then charges me $250. I asked for a roof report also and he had the audacity to charge me an additional fee. Told him to take a hike. Absolute laziness. All this and my general inspector comes out a few days later and ACTUALLY goes on the roof and find some issues. Do not recommend for inspections and based on this I would never trust them to do any actual work on a roof also. read more

Albert came out for an estimate on a repair for the sheet metal coping on my flat roof that was damaged by winds. He told me the price, I agreed and asked him to send it in writing. I received the estimate a week later. I signed the estimate and emailed it. Took another week for him to respond and scheduled the repair for the 16th of October. I made a 2 hour trip to the jobsite to be there and no show, no call, I texted him after waiting for four hours, crickets. A week later he calls and tells me they didn't have the sheet metal then and they now have it. He apologized for the no show and couldn't give me an answer on why they didn't call to let me know why they didn't show up for the repair. We agreed on performing the repairs on November 5th. That date came and went, never heard from him again. Stay away from this shady contractor, he will just waste your time and money. read more

I had Al and his son came out 5 years ago to fix a leak along a second-story wall. Al's fix was easy and did the job, whereas others wanted to tear out the roof and look. Al installed an "L"-shaped line along the interface from the wall to the roof below which channeled the water away from the seam and over the tiles. It turns out that the original builder did not provide this obvious thing that I noticed on other houses. That did the job and is still holding. Fingers crossed but I appreciate Al and his son's analysis and desire to do the right job while holding costs down to what is necessary. read more

I had to hire someone else. They charged me $500 and said there was a one year warranty. Then they spent 30 minutes making a repair. They did come out after I said it was still leaking. This time he spent perhaps ten minutes with a sealer. I've included a pic of that. The person I eventually hired spent six hours and fixed the leak. read more

I finally had the money to move forward and get 4 quotes. I planned on 3 final quotes, but for some reason, I learned of this company and thought, what the heck, I'll get a fourth quote. When I called him, he didn't seem to know who I was or that he was supposed to be meeting with me. Albert told me the guy who was supposed to come over had truck problems and should be there any minute. Albert called me back 15 mins later, asking for my address, and said the guy could come over an hour later. I informed him I wasn't going to be available and I asked him to tell his driver not to come and asked if I could reschedule for another date and time. I had a dark wet spot about 1 ft. in diameter on my ceiling in the corner of the second floor study. Uh-oh - there's a leak somewhere on the roof (I have a tile roof that is 21 years old). Looked outside and determined it MIGHT be the flashing by where the chimney is. Looking on Yelp and sending out the quote estimate out to a few roofing companies, I got a mixed bag of responses. This was after the heavy rains in December 2019, so many were very busy, and couldn't come out for a couple weeks. The first company (very high ratings on Yelp) called and I explained the situation. He explained to me that I probably needed a new roof, but if I chose not to replace the whole roof, his company only replaces whole sections of roof at a time, and looking at my home on Google Maps, that section where the leak was supposed to be was about 1/3 of my roof. So that quote (mind you, no one ever came to my house to verify the severity or actual location of the roof leak) was very a detailed proposal for $6800. I did see this same company repair a whole section of roof for my neighbor's garage across the street... Another company, again over the phone, said that I would need a new roof soon too and explained that if I just wanted a spot repair, he would cut an 8-foot perimeter around the leak when identified and isolated. Though very friendly, he also did not come on-site to look before quoting me a price. Phone quote was $3000. A third popular veteran-owned roofing company made me fill an online request on THEIR website and after some back-and-forth to determine I did not want a new roof (when they already had all the info from my Yelp request) wanted to charge $149 to come out and inspect. I did not take them up on this offer. Then my father suggested I call A-1 Roofing. A pleasant lady returned my call within 24 hours and a few days later the owner, Albert, ACTUALLY CAME OUT TO MY HOUSE to inspect the wet spot leak (free of charge). He did agree it was the flashing by the roof; in fact he had just repaired the same model house, same leaking area previously - and his estimate was $700 with a 2-year warranty on the repair. (Albert also added that tile roofs can last up to 40 years). A few days later, Albert's roofer came out to repair the flashing by the chimney. He also checked the entire roof and repaired a couple of tiles. The service was timely, efficient, friendly and effective. No more wet spot on the ceiling - it is already dry! YAY! I would give this company a 1 star rating, except for 2 things - (1) Albert and his son are very nice and (2) The roof that they did so far seems to be still ok (at least after a couple of months). I feel bad about giving such a bad rating. However, I feel my experience would be helpful to other potential customers to be aware of and for the company to change its ways. I had a bedroom with a leaking flat roof and Albert came out and gave me a very reasonable estimate to replace the roof. The bid included R33 insulation and a few other items. The job eventually took 2.5 days. The second day when they were finally setting up the roof, I went over to look at the work and I noticed that they were using just R8 rigid insulation. When I asked them about it, Albert first said that he could only use an R8 insulation for a flat roof and that we had never agreed on the R33 insulation. Then he looked at the contract and agreed to honor the R33 insulation that I had asked for. I thought this was a 1-off thing and a simple misunderstanding. Later, I began to notice additional discrepancies between what he would say and the actual fact. It became such a pattern that I can/could no longer trust his word. He also borrowed our stepladder without asking us and it ended up becoming covered in paint and he reimbursed us for that. There was also some sort of debris that was dumped in our garden, which I found a week later or so. The original bid was for the job to be done in 1-1.5 days. It eventually dragged on for 2.5 days. True to his word within a couple hours i received the contract. I signed, emailed it back, received confirmation from Albert that he got the contract. I didn't hear from him the following day ( I'm sure because of all the other people they service) so I gave them a call the second day, that night I heard back from Albert saying they can do it as soon as the following morning. Based off of the amazing reviews I was looking forward to working with Albert and his team, however I was not as lucky as the previous commenters were in their experience with A1 budget roofing. My husband and I are expecting our first child in the spring and have been working on several projects around the house in preparation. One of the projects we were working on was removing existing roofing on a section of our house, adding insulation, and then re-roofing. This part of the house has no existing insulation on the roof/ceiling and during the summer our house is unbearably hot, and likewise, during the winter it is unbearably cold. With an infant on the way we figured this was our top priority, so we put all of our other projects on hold. We contacted Albert and immediately heard back and were able to schedule a time for him to come and look at our house. He was prompt and even arrived before the scheduled time. He got on the roof, took a few measurements, and then we chatted a bit about the project. He let me know that "insulation is expensive" and then said he would work on a bid and would get back to me. Having worked with other contractors in the past, I knew this sometimes takes a while to do so we gave him almost 2 weeks. After two weeks went by with no response, I contacted him to see how much longer we would have to wait and now, almost a month later, still have not heard back. We have now wasted 4 weeks and still do not have insulation work done. Worst of all, we had all these other projects on hold that have now been pushed back. Luckily, we gave ourselves enough time and will be getting the work done by another company. From my perspective, it seems like A1 budget roofing is a great option if you have a big project to do (for example, roofing your entire home). If you have a smaller project that Albert deems unworthy of his time, he will blow you off. You are much better seeking someone else in that case. read more

Albert and his crew are GREAT. We bought an existing home that supposedly needed a whole new roof. That's enough to make the blood pressure shoot sky high. After consulting with several contractors, A-1 gave us a reasonable price to patch up the leaky roof last year. They were careful about safety and maintaining the integrity of the tiles. Fast forward a year later, after the crazy rain in January. There was a break in the storm, when our neighbor noticed one of the tiles flipped up from the storm, exposing the roofing paper. I scrambled around to ask our handyman if he could fix it. He was swamped that day. I took a risk and called Albert again. I thought, this man is not going to help me, he's swamped too. Nope! Amazingly, he stopped by the house HIMSELF, saw the problem, climbed up on the roof and did a little tune-up while he was up there. What great customer service! I had a horrible experience with this company. I needed repairs done on different areas of my roof. Albert Abodaca came to give me a bid. His son came & did the job. Charged me $1200. When I wrote the check to A1, they said they would take off $50 if I wrote directly to Mr. Abodaca. Then we had some rain & none of the leaks were fixed. They came back out & wanted to charge me another $1200, even though I had a warranty. I finally got smart & got another roofer to come out. Albert came to our house on 9/23/16 to do a patio cover repair to fix a leak. His workscope included an area around a skylight over our living room. Having been in the house since May 2014, I speak with authority that we've not had any issues with leaks with either sky light prior to Albert working on the roof. This includes having a Velux contractor repair the sky lights over a year ago. After Albert completed his repair, we had the first significant rain on Monday 10/24/16, I noticed that we now have a leak at one of the skylights - in the area where Albert was working. I contacted him and he came by on Sat 10/29/16 to discuss the issue. He said he and his crew would come by on Tuesday morning 11/1/16 but nobody showed up or called. I called the next day and left a VM in the morning. At the time of this review, I have still heard nothing from Albert. So until the issue is resolved, this will stand as my review of A-1 Budget roofing. 11/30/16Update since initial review (2 stars). I was finally able to get in touch with Albert to get someone back out to look at the skylight leak. They found that some of the material removed during their initial visit hadn't been re-installed correctly leading to the leak. The guy that came back out wasn't there but 10 minutes max, left without notice or confirming an issue or that the issue was fixed so that was less than desirable. At the end of the day, now that we've had a couple of good rain storms to test the repair, we're good to go. Since the issue was resolved, I gave them an extra star.
