He genuinely cares about your teeth and is extremely detailed in his explanations whenever there are complications. I love the fact that he really emphasizes prevention. He also has an amazing network of orthodontists he can send you to for more detailed work, and you can tell they fully trust eachothers' work. Not an awfully chatty salesman type dentist and a real gentleman who is confident and takes pride in his work. I would give him 6 stars for his more than fluent English and Japanese as well!

Also, his hygienist Jade is no longer with the practice and the new hygienist leaves much to be desired, is a bit unprofessional at times, and does not perform as thorough of a cleaning. My experience with the new team is as follows: 1. Whereas doctor Lipner would explain why I should get my cavities filled right away for my health, the new dentists approach was to tell me that I should get them filled because I have enough funds on my insurance to pay for it. That was definitely a turn off for me from ever going to that dentist or trusting him with my teeth. 2. On one occasion where I was 15minutes late for my appointment and apologized as I came in, the hygienist looked at the clock and tells me well I don't know I'll see what I can do as I have another patient after you. Really?! For a $240 cleaning I don't want to get a "see what I can do service," in any case after proceeding to say that they could have told me on the phone and I would have rescheduled, the hygienist with an attitude proceeded to say "that's not what I said," suffice it to say I did not feel comfortable during the rushed cleaning, nor was it done well. Very sad to see what was once a very professional and upscale establishment really deteriorate due to new staff.

Dr. Kohn and his team have helped me save and keep most of my own teeth via a combination of laser-assisted deep cleaning, coordination with Dr. Dwight Hershman, a superb oral surgeon who installed several dental implants, and ongoing dental maintenance, which includes water flossing, brushing, rinsing/gargling with salt water, and regular periodic cleanings. Dr. Kohn and his team are caring, compassionate, and provided me with the comfort and support that I really needed. Dr. Kohn and his team listened to my questions, provided explanations in simple, understandable, and practical terms, kept me updated regularly regarding progress, and were always honest and upfront in managing my expectations. They have gone the extra mile, above and beyond for me every time! And he is very personable, telling stories, giving useful advise, and remembering our previous conversations. The banter between he and his wife (who works the desk and acts as his assistant) is part of the charm of this place, even if the building and waiting area look like a throwback to the 80s. This place really is great. They take my insurance, they work some Saturdays, they have a pretty open and flexible schedule.. One time, Dr Bernhard said he thought he saw a cavity, and that on my next checkup, he expected to do a filling. When I came back, he took another X-ray to be sure, and then decided that it was better to hold off and just keep an eye on it. That is doing dentistry for the patient first. He could have needlessly drilled my mouth and charged insurance, instead, he kept my best interest in mind and was more cautious.
