This office is MONEY HUNGRY! private or not. I visited for a consultation for my wisdom teeth…read moreextraction. Upon entering, I was given two papers to fill out as a new patient, neither of those papers had questions about my dental history..which seemed off because I did have my referral and x-rays with me. I was taken to the back to do a Panoramic x-ray and then in a room to meet Dr. Avi. He explained to me the overall procedure and that he was not going to pull all 4 of my wisdom teeth at one time. I was told that my insurance only covers 1 panoramic x-ray every 3 years, so that I would have to cover the costs of the one just taken which is $200.. weird to be told AFTERWARDS, right? okay then he introduced to me a procedure called "bone grafting" which he said I needed for the bottom two wisdom teeth and If I declined to do the bone grafting he " would not touch me".... this is also not covered by my insurance so it would be an out of pocket costs of $625 PER TOOTH! He said one week he will pull two, place the bone graft in, stitch it and then come back two weeks later to TAKE THE STITCHES OUT and pull the other two and repeat the same thing for the following two weeks...now I am apprehensive. During the conversation I asked of there was a payment plan he and said yes the front desk will break down how it goes. He was very adamant about scheduling my surgery for THE FOLLOWING WEEK and he told the front desk to do so.. I asked how much days he would think I need off from work etc.. he said just 1. Here's the breakdown and total: $200 (x-ray) + $625 (bone graft) x 2 = $1,450. The payment plan was that On the day of the surgery half of the total was due, which is $725 and then at my next two week visit another payment. This was Insane and felt forced. I found another oral surgeon and finalized that "bone grafting" IS NOT needed for me, they asked about my dental history, and let me know first that I would've had to pay $25 for an x-ray IF I DIDN'T already have my images.. which I did. Conclusion, Get a second opinion always.

After having molar tooth pain for YEARS and trying to ignore it, I was really afraid how the…read moredentist I chose would handle this painful removal. After seeing other reviews, I made an appointment with Dr. Karlovsky and I made a wonderful choice! He is very compassionate, offers patients choices and is down to earth about the diagnosis. While there's nothing easy about oral surgery, Karlovsky was reassuring, patient with me during my molar removal and understood my concerns about the procedure. His staff is lovely and supportive, as they were in the room with me in case I became sick during the procedure. I will definitely stay with him for years to come if I need more teeth removed, as I know he will make the experience the most bearable as he possibly can.

Canarsie Family Dentistry - Referral to go to a local Hospital. Seem to be a Dental Resident that performed the extraction and root canal attempt not Dr. Shamtoub.

While this may not be the most 5-star dentist office around, they are affordable and were able to…read moreget me into an emergency appointment the day I called. I had experienced intense pain in a wisdom tooth that turned out to be infected, I called them and they were able to get me in right away. When I got there around 4:30-5, I had to wait around an hour but I was still grateful that they got me in and got me the prescription that helped make the infection go away. A few weeks later, i returned and had the wisdom teeth surgery. When it comes to wisdom teeth extraction, there is one surgeon who comes once a month on sundays. I tried this, but that day they were really backed up and I ended up leaving since my surgery would have been over 2 hours late. There is another surgeon who comes every Thursday so I rescheduled with him. The surgery went really smoothly, and so far everything has been healing fine. I found it to be very quick and efficient and I had no problems with the anesthesia. The receptionists here are very friendly and helpful, one of them even lent me his portable charger once when my phone was about to die so I definitely appreciated the great service by the staff. Cons: I wish they gave a little more information about how to care for yourself after the surgery. They gave me a sheet of paper with some pointers but I do wish they gave more detailed after-care instructions.

Update: This office only wanted to contact me once I disputed the charges since I paid out of…read morepocket. I was able to speak with a Practice Manager on 12/15/25 named Gladys who was half-asleep during the phone call and totally clueless as to what occurred at this dental office on 12/10/25. The local Hospital I went to called the Attending Dentist the same evening, to inquire what occurred at their office during my services/procedure. No no one from Canarsie Family Dentistry called me to follow-up after I went to the ER to find out if I was okay. I was in so much pain, agony, and discomfort for days!!!!! This office only wanted to call me when the dispute was closed for the $2,000 bill. I paid the local Hospital out-of-pocket (they did not take my insurance) for their mess and racked up almost $400 in out of pocket expenses and was radiated at least 3-4 times within a 2-week period. Now I have extremely terrible fear and trauma of going to the Dentist and going through further tooth extractions, which I ended up getting the botched Root Canal tooth removed. I went to a Specialist office on 12/17 and she said the X-Ray's showed my tooth was badly shattered and fractured by these incompetent people at Canarsie Family Dentistry. The Specialist could not understand why I would of been told to complete a Root Canal process when the tooth was already damaged. I also had to pay for the Specialist fees as well. I went through so much within the past 2 to almost 3 weeks. Such a horrible experience to go through. I'm completely traumatized. P.S. the local Hospital also stated there were tooth fragments left behind from the prior tooth extraction done at Canarsie Family Dentistry and materials/remnants of the partial/botched Root Canal, they had to remove/clean up. When I read the summary notes of each visit from the Hospital these fools over exposed me to some kind of clinical bleaching solution which caused a low reaction infection. I barely received a good night's rest since this incidents occurred. I missed days/week(s) of work and was running around all over the City to get the issue with my eye, face, and teeth resolved. This Dental Office does not care about the well-being of their patients. I was told I needed a re-fill on a filling and they didn't even do it in-office on 12/10/25; they only care about the high-dollar services and procedures they like to push on you. I was in the dental chair for almost 3 hours you would think these people are experts they way they like to send the Finaicial Hustler to collect payments and given unclinical informed consent to which the dentist didn't even do nor explain the risks or complications of the procedures. I'm very thankful to be alive, my God!
