    Plant selection
    StaciLei T.

Plant lovers will find their happy place at A Succulent Day! This space is absolutely beautiful with an amazing selection of house plants, succulents, planters and planting supplies. The staff here are so friendly, approachable, and willing and wanting to share all of their knowledge. If you're a plant newbie like me, having someone to help guide your plant parenthood is wonderful. They all know how much water, sunlight, humidity and just about everything each plant needs. This new location is bigger and better than ever after moving from their previous spot also on State Street. As we all know, State can be a crazy road to turn in and out of big their giant sign makes it hard to miss! There is also extra street parking towards the residential side if the lot is full. I believe that they usually get their shipment of new plants in store on Wednesdays and I love coming in on those days and seeing all the different beauties that come in. The number 1 thing is that none of the plants I've bought here have ever had any unwanted bugs/pests. All of the plants are in great health and ready to thrive in a new home! I think that the plants are very reasonably priced, which makes it easy for you to grab a couple succulents and house plants... and then a locally made ceramic planter... and you need to grab a little bag of soil to repot and everything adds up. With that said, I've never regretted a day that I spent a little bit too much at A Succulent Day. Coming here is one of my favorite forms of self-care.

Ooooooooh so cute!!!! Cheers to Martha, the amazing owner of this little shoppe! She was so kind to answer questions, and we had an amazing little chat. I think the thing I was MOST excited about upon entry was ALL. THE. AMAZING. POTS. that this shoppe has! I was kicking myself, because I had just settled on some lackluster pots the day before. UGH! Well, I guess that means that it's time for more plants! The selection is vast, and she has this little place dressed head to toe! Plants, Pots, and more! The prices are awesome compared to a few other places I have gone to. Right now they are only letting 3 customers in at once since it is on the small side - so WINDOW SHOP and get excited for what you will see upon entry. I live way too close to this place and it is going to be dangerous! :) Amazing work Martha, can't wait to grow our friendship & plantship!

A very cute store with a beautiful variety of plants. The employees were kind, knowledgeable, and offered assistance quickly. Prices are a little bit hefty but worth it for the experience and advice given by the staff. Highly recommend this store if you looking for unique succulents, cactus, etc.

Great space with friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable staff. Great selection of plants. Very pleased when I got my two pieces home. They will also arrange it for you if you buy separate plants and pots. This will be my new go to place for plants for myself and gifts for others.

I'm from California and I'm visiting my friends who moved here. They were on a plant hunt so I accompanied them here, the place is SO cute, the customer service is amazing and the pricing on the pots and plants are great! I impulse bought a cute little pot and a succulent. One of the girls potted it for me and put pebbles on top, when I mentioned I would be taking this back home on a plane, she took the extra step and boxed it up with a lot of tissue. I highly recommend it this plant haven! They don't have a place like this with this good customer service I'm Los Angeles!

My daughter and I stopped by yesterday afternoon hoping to have my large glass vase turned into a succulent garden. The staff were very friendly and helpful. They asked questions about the lighting in the space I intended to place the vase, then advised which of the plants would work best there. Once I chose the plants I wanted, they put everything together for me in my vase. I was very pleased with the end result.

You can not not come out of this store empty handed. There are just too many goodies here. We came here after brunch today. Coming up to the store, they had a couple racks of beautiful succulents on display. I would have loved to purchase all of them but as simple it is to keeping succulents alive, I have a special talent for killing them. Walking into the store, you are immediately overwhelmed with all the little things everywhere! You don't even know where to being to look at but eventually you'll either go left or right. We made our way through this fun store. Mixed Greens is a big novelty store for adults! The store is filled with everything you can think of. I loved looking at nick nacks. Everything was just so prettily placed and delicately staged. From cooking utensils to hand held fishing grips to gemstones, it was hard not to touch everything. You can literally spend hours in this store and still miss something. We snagged a couple things for my mother in law for mother's day. It's nice knowing that her gifts didn't come from your everyday store. If you're looking for a unique gift or a treat for yourself, Mixed Greens is your go to joint to hit up. There's something for everyone in this store and it's great.

Located on 6th street, this shop is your one stop shop for all things Idaho, handmade and incredibly special. You can find blown glass, textiles, soaps, lotions, chocolate, peanuts, ornaments, shave oils, cutting boards, games, mugs, vases, ornaments and so much more. Most of my favorite makers were there (think Ladybug Press, Sawtooth Glass Project, City Peanut Shop, All Spun Up, Sage Woolens, etc.) It felt like a holiday craft bazaar that is open year round and housing the very best products. I found the selection to be varied and affordable. You could find things for men, women, children, pets and even yourself! It bears repeating that you are paying for handcrafted, small-business wares. It is not going to have the same price tag as a manufactured good from a big box store. It will be a higher price tag. I like to think that I'm paying for a story. My purchased items contain all the love, hope, and hard work that each maker poured into their product. I love to give handmade stuff for gifts and I think they are appreciated a lot more than something I could ship from Amazon. The shop keepers were lovely. I think they are some of the makers, but it was so very busy when I went in that I didn't want to bog them down with conversation. If you are looking for special presents, this is the place to go. Enjoy all the treasures.

Although this is 30 minutes from our front door, it is our go to when we're looking for pastured pork or poultry products. (We don't eat beef but they have that too.) If they had a good selection of local lamb cuts it would be golden for us - our favorite protein - but it is a harder sell for them so they carry less. (Americans consume on average only 1 pound of lamb / person / year. And about 97 pounds of chicken per person annually. Both are shocking numbers.) We purchased bone-in pork shoulder from Malheur which I boned and cut up for Asado de Bodas (aka Mexican wedding stew, I think, sort of mole meets asado de puerco) cutting off the beautiful fresh fat cap to render down for sauteing the veg, and using the bone to make a pork broth to freeze for pozole sometime in the future. And if you like to cook Italian food, Malheur made jowl bacon (otherwise known in Italy as guanciale) this winter which was sold here and is THE perfect thing for carbonara and Amatriciana sauces. My Brooklyn born hubby is Italian heritage and grew up with an Italian speaking nonna in the kitchen so we have used a lot of guanciale - not in Boise though where it is hard to find - and this is the best we have ever used. Still not carrying much fresh market produce but they have added Acme Bread to the line up and on Saturdays I think Acme rotates in a special kind of loaf. From time to time they have had "meet the maker" tastings on Saturdays for some of the vendors they carry. And here's a tip you'll thank me for - if they have local Morning Star Acres jam on the shelf, buy it. Especially the huckleberry! SERVICE: The owner is on site almost all the time, very friendly, very responsive to FB messaging if you have questions about something in stock and always able to help by phone too before making a trip if you're looking for something specific. SET UP: Small but with a good expanse of windows it is light and bright and well organized with refrigerator / freezer case along one wall, larder / pantry shelving next to that with food products for sale and other items - like local artists and crafters goods for sale- also placed around the store. ACCESSIBILITY: ADA parking correctly designed for van access striping on the passenger side adjacent to building. Small ramp up to sidewalk. All on one floor. Ample floor clearance. The loo fails ADA and Idaho code compliance with counters and towel dispenser too high. The eat in counter has only high stool level seating so inaccessible. The ADA is 30 years old in July and it is past time to get this right everywhere for equal access. (Yep. I have a dog in this hunt since I have had MS since college.) LOCATION: In the Bench neighborhood right across from Idaho Youth Ranch thrift shop and just next door to a Vincent St. Paul sales store. PARKING: Private lot has about 15 parking spaces.

So it was delightful when The Sturiale Place reopened last month (May 2018) as warm and wonderful as ever for ambiance in the lovingly restored old house, hospitality, service and food. With a revised and bit expanded menu and a new young Chef in the kitchen, formerly Executive Chef at a Portland area McMenamins, this was a unique little gem before and the changes have polished it even brighter. Our first lunch after re-opening was as delightful as the others we enjoyed here last year (see my previous review for details). This time we enjoyed being able to try new menu items like green salad with Delicata squash and herbed goat cheese (half order $7.50), house made pappardelle with braised lamb Bolognese ($18) and mushroom Marsala on polenta ($13). As a great new surprise on the wine menu, manager Gina Sturiale (daughter of Rita) has added a really good white and red wine by the glass, like the nice Negroamaro my husband enjoyed, for as little as $5! The menu spans options from soup through appetizers and starter or main course sized salads through entrees to desserts. Prices range from $6 to $18. Total inside seating is limited to maybe 16 and maybe about that many on an outside deck. So this is not a place for big groups. It is likely not a kids' destination either.
