I got married in 2020, yes during the pandemic. Why? Well my dad's been battling cancer and so has my husbands step-father. It was the right thing to do because at the end of the year my husbands grandfather passed away, we are so fortunate that he made our wedding. With that said, planning a wedding is stressful. I hired A Sparkling Event for wedding coordination services for my October wedding this year. I would have loved to hire Mandi for full wedding planning services; however, my budget was completely inflexible. Cautiously optimistic, I decided to plan my wedding with support from A Sparkling Event. Mandi and her wonderful team set me up with an online planning tool and a complete list of suggested vendors. Once I got the ball rolling, planning wasn't as daunting as I thought it would be and knowing that I could reach out to Mandi and Emily anytime with questions or concerns put me at ease. About six weeks before my wedding, check ins with the team became more regular and eventually I turned everything I had planned over to A Sparkling Event. I am at a loss for words with your review, Mandi. You were so far above and beyond what I ever thought a planner provided for their clients. From the 3 hour phones calls and not jumping off until every last question was answered, to fully handling the overwhelming amount of items that our venue required, to coming up with creative ways to get what we needed, to finding ways to save us money on our contracts without us even asking (and when it ultimately creates more work for you!!). This is a groom's perspective. It may be unusual for a groom to review a wedding planner but Mandi was just that good. As my wife mentioned in her review, we experienced a bad "Carmel" wedding planner and came across Mandi only weeks before my wedding. My wife and I were doing much of the wedding planning ourselves and initially thought we'd use Mandi as a "standby". Ultimately, Mandi became an absolute integral part of our wedding process. I met Mandi the day before my wedding (I live in San Diego but had a Carmel wedding). During this meeting, with a million things running through my head, I mumbled to myself about still needing to call the musician. Mandi heard this and said to me "I already called him". It was at that moment I realized Mandi was capable of taking a tremendous load off my wife and I that had been suffocating us for the last two months. Mandi did exactly that, everything, from the moment we met her all the way until the end of the reception. She was our saving grace and she was the one person that truly allowed my wife and I to fully enjoy our day. Mandi kept surprising us. The way she decorated the courtyard was amazingly beautiful and incorporated a unique piece of my wife and I, the way she set up the wedding reception (at Christopher's on Lincoln) and our must-have ice cream bar along with the special labeled bottles of beer my father-in-law made in his Cleveland basement, and I have no idea how she pulled this off, but she decorated the honeymoon suite for the arrival of my new bride and I. In addition, Mandi worked well with my mother and girlfriends of my wife who all pitched in to help. Mandi's professionalism and knowledge allowed me to focus on the one thing that was most important to me, my beautiful wife. I can't thank Mandi enough for that. I've been meaning to write this review quite awhile now. I hired Mandi to help me plan my wedding back in October 2017. She wasn't exactly cheap, but I think you get what you pay for when it comes to most wedding stuff and worth every penny! I realized I was way in over my head because I lived out of state at the time and was having trouble staying organized and on top of vendors. And of course there was the typical day-of snafus and vendor miscommunications, but Mandi was on top of all of it and kept everything running smoothly! My husband and I are both hypoglycemic and she made sure we were fed as well. The amazing part was I had little idea how much "stuff" she had to fix until my parents told me about all the things that went wrong long after the fact. Mandi was an absolute godsend. I reached out to her about six months prior to my wedding. My first impressions of Mandi were that she was a fantastic listener, very knowledgeable (rattled of prices of chair costs, etc), organized, and action oriented. When my husband and I met Mandi in person, she was incredibly organized (had a binder full of our wedding details) and we knew we were in good hands! She did a terrific job taking the stress / logistics out of my hands and managed the vendors during crunch time. My photographer even commented how wonderful Mandi was without me even asking. When you get unsolicited compliments like that, you know that she must have made a great impression. Mandi did a great job making recommendations on our timeline. We seriously had no clue what the appropriate flow for the wedding should be and I was so exhausted of making decisions so it was awesome to have someone guiding us through the process. I'm kind of a control freak but Mandi made me so comfortable and every time I asked her any type of question she was on top of it. The day of, I was incredibly relaxed and was so happy to enjoy the day and really focus on my husband and having fun with my friends and family. I didn't have to pick up a phone or manage any of the logistical aspects of my wedding. Mandi went above and beyond and stayed at my wedding until the very end. Herding 30 drunk people into a shuttle is not an easy job, but Mandi was always smiling and had an awesome attitude throughout the entire day. Mandi went above and beyond my expectations. Instead of having my florist stay and clean up and charging me another arm and a leg, Mandi offered to help out and clean up the flowers. I'm not sure where to begin. Perhaps by saying that Mandi was not available for our event date, and referred us to one of her associate planners, Janeen. That's where the train went off the tracks. Janeen certainly has her strengths. She's very friendly, and is quite creative. You can tell she really loves the visual element of designing a beautiful wedding. She also has a short list of great vendors in the area, which is why we got a local planner despite living in SF. A Sparkling Event certainly delivered on that front, and we got a great photographer, florist, bakery, etc. Despite having already selected a venue, I invested in the full planning package, mostly because I work long hours, my parents weren't involved, and we had a 7 month timeline. The service was expensive, and fell short in a number of critical areas: 1) Budget. We discussed it very clearly early on. Janeen said it wouldn't be a problem. A couple of months in, after getting a pretty expensive floral quote, I started adding up what we committed to and we were tracking at least 20% over. She never raised the point herself, and made excuses when we did. 2) Proactive engagement. I felt like Janeen didn't tune into our wedding until 4 weeks out. There's a [much cheaper] package for month-of, but that's not what I paid for. Until the final month, I had to be the one to ask if she'd followed up with vendors, what we needed to tackle next, etc. Janeen treats the process as if you've been married before and know what to do, and she's there to answer questions along the way. There was absolutely no guidance in the process. 3) Details. We all know this is where the devil is. The issue was pervasive, but as an example, we were getting 'competitive quotes' for services that weren't the same (e.g. 6 hours vs 4). I had to go through everything with a fine-toothed comb to make sure there weren't any errors, because there were so many throughout the processes. 4) Communication. Janeen, in general, isn't a great communicator. She'll go dark for weeks and then send 6 emails on different topics in the span of an hour on a Thursday morning. I asked her if we could consolidate, and perhaps track all the items in motion in one thread consistently, and she could just never adapt. 5) Problem solving. One example: Combing through one of the contracts, it became clear that not all of our guests could fit on a single shuttle, and she hadn't planned for multiple trips. I asked Janeen to work with the transportation company to come up with a solution, and she came back with an email asking me to reach out to each of my attendees to understand if they would be driving themselves. Rather than making 45 phone calls, I just wrote a schedule that made one extra trip and sent it to her. We struggled with Janeen early and often. I had a call with Mandi early on to give feedback, and started using her as an additional resource when Janeen wasn't delivering. Overall, Mandi was far more capable, but also incredibly defensive of Janeen. I didn't feel valued as a customer, from the second time we spoke until the last, when I gave overall feedback following the event. My single biggest regret from my wedding, without question, is not switching planners after that initial phone call. Our wedding went smoothly in spite of, not because of, Janeen. I can't in good conscious recommend this service to anyone. I'm sure Mandi is a great planner, but she simply didn't put the customer first in the way she handled our feedback throughout the process, and didn't offer to make it right in any way. I couldn't be more disappointed with the service, and certainly don't feel like I got my money's worth. read more

We hired Mandi as our day of wedding coordinator and we're so glad we did! Mandi was great to work with before the big day and exceeded our expectations on the day of. Our venue wasn't typical and we had a lot of decor to set up in a short amount of time but Mandi handled everything perfectly. Not the smallest detail was missed. As the bride I was able to fully relax and enjoy the celebration. It wasn't until after the wedding that I could fully appreciate Mandi's attentiveness and professionalism behind the scenes. My mother and other guests told me stories of how much she helped out. Like how Mandi ran after some guests when they forgot their favors and how she protected some artwork from a few tipsy guests without anyone being the wiser. She was a life-saver and there's no way we could've pulled off the day without her. We enlisted the help of A Sparkling Event after realizing that we were way over our heads. Since I reside in SF (with a fiance abroad at the time, and arriving only a couple of months prior to the wedding), it was a challenge to plan and coordinate meetings in an efficient manner. Selecting local vendors that could work within our budget was also a daunting task, since we had to rely solely on information we could find on the internet. I found A Sparkling Event on a list of preferred vendors for Carmel Valley Ranch and Mandi took over from there. She helped coordinate and plan prior to the wedding day and was on site with an assistant the day of. I found Mandi at the last minute after having a bad experience with another planner, and I could not be happier. My husband and I live in San Diego and planned a Carmel wedding. We were finding much of what we needed to do was very difficult from a distance and that there were many things we simply didn't know and for which we needed guidance. Mandi and I spoke on the phone several times during the week and met for the first time at the reception venue just before the rehearsal. By that time my husband and I had done most everything ourselves, but still needed to wrap up a lot of little details and had many, many, many questions about how to do so. My mom found Mandi for our late September wedding at the Monterey Plaza after realizing that we were going to be over our heads with planning our whole wedding on our own. And I am extremely happy that she did. I honestly don't know what we would have done without Mandi. And I truly mean that. She went above and beyond our expectations helping us to find many of our vendors and setting up and attending multiple meetings. She was there every step of the way for ANY questions that I had. My mom found most of our decor for the wedding and Mandi stored almost all of it for us at her office so that we wouldn't be overwhelmed bringing it all down at once for the wedding. Mandi really worked her butt off for us the days leading up to the wedding and on the wedding day. She had schedules printed to give out to our wedding party and families at the rehearsal and set up taxis/ubers from the Plaza to the rehearsal dinner site. She even drove some people herself! And the day of the wedding I trusted her to do everything necessary to get vendors there on time, the ceremony and rehearsal venues set up, and literally everything else that needed to be done. Allowing me to really relax and enjoy getting ready with my bridesmaids. I truly wasn't worried about something not getting done. If anything happened during the time we were getting ready I was none the wiser, which is exactly how it should be. The whole weekend was incredible. And to just top off the night, when my husband and I got back from the after party our hotel room was decorated with petals, candles, and some decor from the wedding. There were also two slices of our wedding cake, dessert from our dessert bar at the reception, chocolate covered strawberries, and champagne with a note from Mandi congratulating us. We were in awe. I hired Mandi from A Sparkling Event to put together my Mom's upscale 80th birthday party. We are not from the Monterey area and hired Mandi close to the date of the event. We trusted her to handle every part of the event including choosing the venue- all sight unseen by us. She aced it. She was patient when we shifted gears continuously with entertainers & music. She went above and beyond on small details that we didn't even think about, asking if certain ones would be acceptable to us (decorations and special touches in my Mom's hotel room) and others knowing she didn't need to ask and just going the extra mile. For some reason, we didn't go ahead with a professional photographer, maybe thinking so many people would have their phone. Without saying a word she brought a professional photographer! It was a little while after the party started that I noticed this person with a camera and asked who he was. She explained- no charge, she just thought it was really important! He was professional, personable and very talented. What can I say about a planner that saves me from my own mistakes and takes the cost on herself. She never asked me to pay for the photographer- he was complimentary. I think this one step on her part shows her commitment to making the event the best it can be period. She is upbeat, cheerful, friendly and patient. The entire event, was phenomenal and surpassed my expectations. Now months later you can only imagine how valuable those photos are. Choosing Mandi Nack at A Sparkling Event to assist in the planning of my bridal shower & wedding was the best decision I made! I originally hired her to just do the day of decorating & keep everyone in line, but I ended up planning & bouncing ideas off of her for over a year. My husband was definitely a hands-off groom & my maid of honor was my younger sister who was still in school, so it was great to have someone to just brainstorm with & try out ideas with.
