I took Dylan's 2-day Core Fundamentals course in Palo Alto. Like many of my classmates (6 total) I have been riding MTB for 10+ years, but knew there were gaps in my technique and fundamentals that I wanted to address. ASM delivered! The course took us through a very intentional progression of skills, with a lot of time spent in a parking lot. This time was super valuable in teaching pure fundamentals: position, balance, vision, slow speed turns, high speed turns, wheel lifts.... he even had us practicing manuals and pedal wheelies :) Dylan's a true coach. When we hit the dirt there was so much to think about, and Dylan helped us focus on just one thing at a time (often using video to show us what he was seeing.) When the weather took a turn for the worse (and many local trails were closed) Dylan didn't miss a beat and had us jumping off a few stairs at a local high school and grinning like a bunch of 12 yr olds on BMX bikes. (Because riding bikes is for fun!) Since taking the course I'm more fluid on my bike and my riding has improved so much. I have more tools in my toolbox to practice on each segment of trail: position, balance, vision, line choice, wheel lifts and cornering... I've definitely improved and feel like I have a solid base of fundamentals that will keep me improving. Bonus of taking the course is that I met a few other local folks to ride with - always a plus. Strongly recommended! read more

The single thing that stands out for me as to why Dylan's clinic was so excellent is that he sets you up to continue progressing way after the clinic is done. Simply put, the drills Dylan uses during the class teach you how to move over your bike and how to let your bike move under you. None of it is rocket science but Dylan has a natural ability to communicate the proper techniques, evaluate your riding, and give you practical feedback. To throw some cliches out there, the whole time was filled with "ah-ha" moments (a lot of "ha ha ha" too, it's just playing bikes afterall). So by the end of the class, the message is that you have the basis for learning to rail every corner, flow through every rock garden, and send every drop (but its still going to take work). I'm a long way from doing any of those things perfectly but because of Dylan's class, I can evaluate my own riding technique better and can continue to build on what I learned. I have a better idea of what "good riding" should feel like and now I can figure out what I need to do differently when things go wrong (sometimes). All I can say is that it was the best investment I've made in mountain biking (skip the carbon wheels and get the clinic, it's still cheaper). If you think you like mountain biking now, take Dylans class and you'll really get a taste of how much more awesome it can be. I'll be back for another one next year. read more

I recently had the pleasure of participating in a private group clinic with Dylan, the owner of A Singletrack Mind, and it was an absolutely fantastic experience. From start to finish, Dylan's passion for mountain biking and his expertise shone through, making for an incredibly valuable and enjoyable session. Dylan's coaching style is highly effective, combining clear instruction with hands-on demonstrations that really helped our group improve our skills and confidence on the trails. His personalized approach ensured that everyone, regardless of skill level, felt supported and challenged in the right measure. What sets Dylan apart is his genuine care for his clients' progress and enjoyment. He took the time to understand our goals and tailored the clinic to meet our needs, ensuring that we left feeling more confident and capable riders. His enthusiasm for the sport is contagious, making the clinic not only educational but also a lot of fun. The location chosen for the clinic was perfect (Fairfax and Tamarancho), providing a variety of terrain to practice on and stunning views to enjoy along the way. Overall, I cannot recommend Dylan and A Singletrack Mind highly enough. Whether you're a beginner looking to learn the basics or an experienced rider aiming to refine your skills, Dylan's private group clinics are a must-do. Thank you, Dylan, for an unforgettable experience! read more

I've been mountain biking for 12 years, and I never felt that I had a real good grip on the techniques that made my rides smooth and flowing. I always lacked the confidence that made my rides anything more than "bombing down the hill holding on for dear life." When I first got started, I did read a lot of material on the internet and learned a lot of techniques. From the first day of our three-day Clinic, Dylan was able to open my eyes to how many of the "old" techniques I was using were out-dated and causing my lack of confidence on the trail. Every single day of the clinic, Dylan showed us something new that I probably would not have ever learned on my own. You can watch Youtube videos every day (and I've watched quite a few) but you'll never get the level of technical expertise that Dylan imparts in his trainings. Not only will Dylan tell you what you should be doing, but he tells you the why of it, and in such a way that even someone as slow as I am can understand it =D By the time I was done with this clinic, I was riding sections of trail that I previously would have gotten off the bike and walked. I plan on mountain biking for as long as my body is able to, and this class definitely helped make something that I enjoy doing much MORE enjoyable. read more

I recently took Dylan's 3-day Core Fundamentals class in Truckee and found the whole experience to be very enlightening. I've been riding bikes since I can remember and mountain biking for 15+ years, and I learned so much I didn't know before! I have previously taken some shorter skills clinics and learned new things, but this class took everything further and filled in the gaps that the other classes didn't cover. Dylan is a very patient teacher and not only explains how to do something, but also why. We had plenty of time to practice and perfect all of the drills in the parking area before heading out for a trail ride each day to put our new skills to the test. Dylan uses video as a teaching aid, which I found very helpful as it helps to verify whether the body position you think you're in is actually your body position in reality. I have been applying my new skills out on the trail and already notice a huge improvement in my cornering and vision. I would highly recommend this class for anyone, especially if you've never had any formal training before. A Singletrack Mind will take you to the next level! read more

I am new to Mountain biking and my session with Dylan has gotten me off on the right foot to begin my mountain biking journey. He did an outstanding job of starting me off with just enough fundamentals to get me safely on the trails. Our session concluded with a trail ride where I was able to put my newfound skills into action with his guidance the entire way, all at my own pace. I have gone on three rides since our class and on today's ride I completed the trail loop that we started during our class and I felt in complete control the whole time. There is a lot more to learn, but Dylan is a great coach and I look forward to learning more from him. In addition, the pre and post session logistics coordinated by Amy are both professional and mindful making for a top notch experience overall. Working with 'A Singletrack Mind' is a sound investment and I look forward to working more with them! read more

I took Dylan's 2-day Core Fundamentals MTB clinic in Marin at Tamarancho. The weekend was a blend of introducing concepts, practicing drills so the class understood the concepts and then applying the ideas on nearby trails. Dylan also does an excellent job of incorporating video as a way to provide rider feedback in real time. Dylan did an excellent job of communicating complex ideas using simple straightforward language and demonstrating the techniques. He was also able to step us through drills which allowed the class to immediately feel what a particular lesson was highlighting. The concepts were sequenced to allow the students to build up the different skills presented in the lesson. An added bonus for me was spending time in a new riding zone. Taking the class at a location new to me added to the experience. read more

I took Dylan's two day clinic in Tahoe in July. I've been riding for a few years, but like a lot of people I'm usually riding with a group and typically focusing more on keeping up or getting through different spots than I am on technique. It was really great to have someone watching and moving you progressively through different aspects and skills. Dylan has a laid back style, clearly knows how to teach riders, and is constantly encouraging. I highly recommend anyone wanting to work on their skills to sign up for a course with A Singletrack Mind. Good experience and fun to ride with the other people taking the course too. Since taking the course I've been making sure to practice what I've learned and I think it's really helping improve my riding. read more

I signed up for the Core Fundamentals 2 day course and was not disappointed! This course is great for both the beginner (me) and more advanced riders. Our group had varying skills levels, but Dylan was able to tailor instruction to meet the skill of each rider. The course is jam packed with invaluable information that lays the foundation for skills required in all types of riding. I finished the clinic with plenty to practice as I go ride, and a deeper understanding of body mechanics which has made me a more confident rider. I tackled terrain that I would have been too nervous to do before, and I'm recalling Dylan's expert guidance when on rides now to reinforce in my mind and body what can be accomplished by improving one's core fundamentals! read more

I just bought a mountain bike this past April and am new to the sport. The Singletrack Mind 2 day Fundamentals course was recommended to me by my neighbor and I am so glad that I took it! Dylan is such a patient coach and super talented in accommodating the various competency levels of the class participants. He was very thorough in introducing the conceptual foundation on which to build solid MTB skills and educated us in where the progression of those skills could take us in our riding. It was very helpful to take those skills out on the trail at the end of each of the 2 day course and apply them. It's been a week since I did the course and already am feeling that I can anticipate and handle the biking terrain so much better. read more

Ive been riding for a little bit, just about long enough to wanting to do more and go faster than I really have the skills for, since my fundamentals mostly come from youtube. A couple of months ago, I spent 3h in a 1-1 session with Dylan to go over my fundamentals and it was an eye opener for sure. He helped me through a number of progressing exercises with a continuous feedback loop and video reviews, all with a clear focus and purpose. Since the session, Ive spent time on the street outside as well as on trails and though there are still things I need to work more on, I ride with more control and confidence and have been able to ride faster and hit bigger features than I did before. Looking forward to our next session! read more

I took Dylan's weekend clinic in Santa Cruz because I recently returned to trail riding after a two-decade bout of road riding. Happy to say he cured me of that affliction. Seriously, though, Dylan is a gifted teacher and the clinic covered all of the essential skills necessary to become a competent and confident rider. In my prior mountain biking life I never paid attention to form or technique. Now, I already feel like a much better rider after only a week of practice. I highly recommend his clinics to anyone interested in finally learning how to ride. It really makes a difference. By the way, I am not a kid (closer to geezer than kid) and recommend this to anyone of any age. read more

Dylan is easily one of the most knowledgeable mtb riders in the Sierra. I took about a month after my intermediate/advanced course with him to write this review, because I wanted to really see how the small changes would effect my overall technique and riding ability. I thought that I knew a lot about biking, I do it almost everyday, turns out I didn't know squat! I have PR'd all of my normal trails, zapping off at least a minute on some sections since this course. I feel substantially more in tune with my body and my bike now. Spend the money, a day with these guys will literally change your world. I feel like a completely new rider. 10/10 Recommend. read more

I attended the Day 1 clinic that was taught by Dylan. I am giving A Singletrack Mind high ratings for many reasons. Professionalism as a business, instructor knowledge and approachability, class setting, and cost vs value. I was at a beginner level, having only put in about 150 miles on easy to intermediate trails. I came away from Day 1 feeling much more confident and also had several "light bulb" moments during the day of training. After I've had some time of applying everything I learned in Day 1 I will be looking to go back for Day 2 and beyond. Great experience! read more

Dylan is an amazing mountain bike coach; his 2 day Core Fundamentals clinic in Truckee transformed my riding. I've been riding for over 15 years but it wasn't until my weekend with Dylan that I realized how much I didn't know. He breaks down the fundamentals in such a logical and simple way, and as a result I have SO much more confidence on my bike. And I can ride at higher speeds because I am much more in control. Dylan's warmth, passion for the sport and incredible knowledge make him a truly wonderful teacher. I highly recommend this clinic for beginners to experts. read more

I attended Dylan's MTB Core Fundamentals class at Sierra College in Truckee this past spring hoping to gain more confidence while riding the rocky trails up in Tahoe. Dylan was super helpful in explaining and demonstrating the basics which have helped me immensely has I ride more technical terrain. It was a super comfortable and fun group of folks, and Dylan was great about giving everyone in the group individual and helpful feedback. His local knowledge was a plus, and I'm looking forward to taking another one of his clinics soon! read more

Dylan is so great. We had such a fun weekend in the Donner forests with Dylan's Fundamentals course. It was perfect for me and my partner. We started with drills and more practical skills then took it the trails. We were exhausted by the end but it was great and I highly recommend to anyone who is looking for a fun Beginner's-Intermediate course looking to develop their foundation. Dylan's wealth of knowledge is bar-none, and he knows the trails like the back of his hand. Truly a great experience, thanks Dylan and Amy! read more

I recently did a cornering and wheel lifts clinic and was blown away at how much I learned in 1 day. I am still practicing and improving with some of the easy to implement drills he taught during the workshop. Dylan is a great coach who can focus on a wide range of riding skills and abilities to match each participants level and challenge each person individually. He is also super fun to work with and I had a blast meeting other riders who live close to my area. I would highly recommend Dylan's courses to everyone. read more

I have taken three mountain bike skills clinics with A Single Track Mind, and without a doubt, coaching from Dylan is the best investment that a rider can make for improving their performance on the bike. Dylan is an excellent communicator, and has a sharp eye for providing adjustments in position, body mechanics and timing to improve all levels of rider. The clinics are well structured, and provide an excellent progression which allows riders to push the envelope in a manner that is safe, and builds confidence. read more
